  • Tolerances are defined as the allowable variations in the geometry and positioning of parts in a mechanical assembly for assuring its proper functionality. Tolerance analysis is the activity related to estimating the potential accumulated variation in assemblies. If the estimated variances go out of the specified ranges, it causes the quality problem. Thus, we should adjust the tolerances and this activity is called as tolerance design. In this paper, a case study on the accumulated tolerance analysis and design using Monte Carlo simulation is introduced, which is applied for developing a portable medical device. Using the simulation study, we can improve the assemblability and functionality of the product.

  • In this paper, we deal with two pricing of bond options using the relationship between the forward rate model and the Libor rate model. First, we derive a formula for obtaining discounted bond prices using the restrictive condition of the Ritchken and Sankarasubramanian (RS), and then use the volatility function relationship of the forward rate and the Libor rate models to find the analytic solution (AS) of bond options pricing. Second, the price of the bond options is calculated by simulating several scenarios from the presented condition using Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS). Comparing the results of the implementation of the above two pricing methods, the relative error (RE) is obtained, which means the ratio of AS and MCS. From the results, we can confirm that the RE is around 3.9%, which means that the price of the bond options can be predicted very accurately using the MCS as well as AS.

  • To evaluate the efficiency of commuting patterns, various commuting indicators such as excess commute and commuting potential utilized have been developed and used. It is crucial to calculate these indicators reasonably to reveal the differences in commuting patterns among metropolitan areas and to consider these in the process of formulating commuting policies. However, commuting indicators are generally calculated at the administrative district level, and thus, they are not free from the problem of the modifiable areal unit problem (MAUP). This issue can undermine the rationality of comparing commuting efficiency between metropolitan areas, making it necessary to handle the calculation of commuting indicators carefully. Therefore, this study utilises Monte Carlo Simulation to calculate optimal, actual, and maximum commuting distances, and thereby presents the excess commute and the commuting potential utilized. To apply Monte Carlo Simulation to the context of South Korea, a constrained Monte Carlo Simulation is conducted, where residential and workplace locations used in the simulation are selected based on the actual locations of buildings. The analysis is conducted on 13 metropolitan areas with established metropolitan plans using the 2016 Household Travel Survey data. The commuting indicators calculated through the simulation showed minimal differences compared to the results obtained through conventional methods. The comparison of commuting efficiency among metropolitan areas revealed that even if the degree of spafial balance between residential and workplace locations is similar, the actual commuting patterns can differ significantly. It is suggested that further research considering characteristics such as the area of each metropolitan region will be necessary in the future.

  • The influences of scatterer and absorber in turbid material by light scattering on silica fume of additive were interpreted for the scattered intensity and wavelength. The molecular properties have been studied by Monte Carlo simulation in resin of New Austria Tunnel Method. It has been found that the effects of optical properties in scattering media could be investigated by the optical parameters(${\mu}_s$, ${\mu}_a$,${\mu}_t$). Monte Carlo Simulation method for modelling of light transport in the civil engineering and construction field was applied. The results using a phantom were discussed that the distance from source to detector is closer, and scattering intensity is stronger with those obtained through Monte Carlo Simulation. It may also aid in designing the best model for coatings and corrosion for the durability of metal constructions.

  • A new Monte Carlo (MC) simulator for electron beam lithography process in the multi-layer resists and compound semiconductor substrates has been developed in order to fabricate and develop the high-speed PHEMT devices for millimeter-wave frequencies. For the accurate and efficient calculation of the transferred and deposited energy distribution to the multi-component and multi-layer targets by electron beams, we newly modeled for the multi-layer resists and heterogeneous multi-layer substrates. By this model, the T-shaped gate fabrication process by electron beam lithography in the PHEMT device has been simulated and analyzed. The simulation results are shown along with the SEM observations in the T-gate formation process, which verifies the new model in this paper.

  • Repeated measurements on units under different conditions are common in biological and biomedical studies. In a number of growth and pharmacokinetic studies, the relationship between the response and the covariates is assumed to be nonlinear in some unknown parameters and the form remains the same for all units. Nonlinear random coefficient models are used to analyze such repeated measurement data. Extended least squares methods are proposed in the literature for estimating the parameters of the model. However, neither objective function has closed form expression in practice. This paper proposes Monte Carlo methods to estimate the objective functions and the corresponding estimators. A simulation study that compare various methods is included.

  • In this research, we simulated the elementary star shielding ability using Monte Carlo simulation to apply medical radiation shielding sheet which can replace existing lead. In the selection of elements, mainly elements and metal elements having a large atomic number, which are known to have high shielding performance, recently, various composite materials have improved shielding performance, so that weight reduction, processability, In consideration of activity etc., 21 elements were selected. The simulation tools were utilized Monte Carlo method. As a result of simulating the shielding performance by each element, it was estimated that the shielding ratio is the highest at 98.82% and 98.44% for tungsten and gold.

  • This study offered a new method to calculate absorbed dose of actual patients through Monte Carlo Simulation by using the linkage of Geant4 and DICOM, and, the experimental value of absorbed dose at the center and Geant 4 simulation result according to the depth of PMMA mock phantom were compared by using MOSEF in order to verify Geant4 calculation code. In the area where there was no air space between the irregular gap due to incomplete compression of PMMA slab, the differences were $0.46{\pm}4.69$ percent and $-0.75{\pm}5.19$percent in $15{\times}15cm^2$ and $20{\times}20cm^2$ respectively. Excluding the error due to incomplete compression of PMMA mock phantom, the calculation values of the Monte Carlo simulation by linkage of Geant4 and DICOM was the same.

  • Tensile strength and failure process of composite materials depend on the variation in fiber strength, matrix properties and fiber-matrix interfacial shear strength. A Monte-Carlo simulation considering variation in these factors has been widely used to analyze such a complicated phenomenon as a strength and simulated the failure process of unidirectional composites. In this study, a Monte Carlo simulation using 2-D and 3-D(square and hexagonal array) model was performed on unidirectional graphite/epoxy and glass/polyester composites. The results simulated by using 3-D hexagonal array model have a good agreement with the experimental data which were tensile strength and failure process of unidirectional composites.

  • The most important thing in Plasma simulation is the etching process in which etch rate is calculated based on feature profile. Although there are various components to consider in calculating etch rate such as Ion Flux, Neutral, gas, and temperature, Addressing of this paper is limited to Ion Flux. This paper propose a scan method to compute Ion Flux faster for Plasma simulation. Also, this paper experiments and compares generally used Monte Carlo method and the proposed method based on gaussian and cosine distribution. Lastly, this paper proves that the proposed method can calculate accurate Ion Flux more efficiently than Monte Carlo method.
