  • IIn this study, we have developed drying systems for reducing the error by humidity on measuring particulate matter (PM) in the ambient air with optical particle measuring instruments. Two types of drying systems were designed: drying systems using heating and dilution methods. In addition, 3 types of drying systems using a heating method were designed: Type A (1 hole), B (3 holes) and C (7 holes). After making them, the laboratory and field tests were carried out to evaluate the developed drying systems. As a result, it was shown that the PM concentrations obtained by PM monitoring devices with drying systems agree well with that of the reference devices. Therefore, it could be concluded that the drying systems can be applied to PM monitoring devices for real-time monitoring of the ambient aerosols.

  • Purpose: This qualitative study aimed to explore the experiences of patients with diabetes provided with medication monitoring using an artificial intelligence-based smartwatch. Methods: Giorgi's descriptive phenomenological methodology was applied to collect and analyze data from November 9 to December 23, 2021. The study samples were recruited by convenience sampling, and even patients with diabetes participated in in-depth interviews via video conference and telephone calls or face-to-face visits. Results: Ten sub-themes and four themes were finally revealed. The four themes were as follows: journey with unfamiliar devices, a less-than-acceptable smartwatch, insufficient functions and content for patients with diabetes to use, and efforts for regular medication behaviors and daily monitoring of patient's health conditions. Conclusion: To effectively manage diabetic conditions using digital healthcare technologies, nursing interventions were needed to identify personal needs and consider technological, psychological, aesthetic, and socioeconomic aspects of wearable devices.

  • Wireless technology has enabled farmers monitor and control protected production environment more efficiently. Utilization of USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Network) devices also brought benefits due to reduced wiring and central data handling requirements. However, wireless communication loses signal under unfavorable conditions (e.g., blocked signal path, low signal intensity). In this paper, performance of commercial wireless communication devices were evaluated for application to protected crop production. Two different models of wireless communication devices were tested. Sensors used in the study were weather units installed outside and top of a greenhouse (wind velocity and direction, precipitation, temperature and humidity), inside ambient condition units (temperature, humidity, $CO_2$, and light intensity), and irrigation status units (irrigation flow and pressure, and soil water content). Performance of wireless communication was evaluated with and without crop. For a 2.4 GHz device, communication distance was decreased by about 10% when crops were present between the transmitting and receiving antennas installed on the ground, and the best performance was obtained when the antennas were installed 2 m above the crop canopy. When tested in a greenhouse, center of a greenhouse was chosen as the location of receiving antenna. The results would provide information useful for implementation of wireless environment monitoring system for protected crop production using USN devices.

  • In this paper, we have designed and implemented the 'N-screen based solar power monitoring system' using N-screen technology by improving the existing monitoring system that can only be accessed or controlled by PC. The HW of the system is consists of solar power modules, inverter, and relay server. And SW is implemented in consideration of the following three points. First, we applied the N-screen technology in order to support various devices. Second, we applied 1:N communication technology that multiple devices can be connected simultaneously to the relay server. Third, we also considered the security problems between server and devices. The final system has been evaluated through the operational test and received good reviews from the technical and economic point. In the future, we are expecting that this technology will replace the existing monitoring systems in various fields, like smart home, smart building, smart city, smart industry, and smart agriculture, etc.

  • The utilization range of mobile devices is becoming broader than before due to the rapid development of the mobile market. Furthermore, the demands for computer-aided management are increasing due to the extensive expansion of the installation of solar street lights. In this paper, we propose a system which can be used to observe solar street lights. The manager of the system can control and manage the solar street lights using video images on a mobile device.

  • Most measuring devices are equipped with RS232 interface or GPIB interface for communicating with computers. If the measuring devices can be accessed by a server computer, the valuable information from the devices can be effectively shared with other computer via internet. VRML is a web based technology for specifying and delivering three-dimensional interactive visualizations over the internet through a web browser. This paper proposes a remote 3-dimensional monitoring system for digital multimeter equipped with RS232 interface by utilizing VRML.

  • Double-effect absorption chiller-heaters have been widely installed in large buildings and are also becoming popular in mid-sized commercial buildings. While much emphasis is Put on designing energy saving and efficient chiller-heaters, careful attention must also be given to the design of control systems for these devices. Currently, these devices are controlled by their own built-in controllers, such as relay based sequence controller or microprocessor based controller. But, because large buildings require multiple chiller-heaters, a centralized supervision and control system is necessary for the efficient monitoring, control, and operations management of these devices We have developed man-machine interface software that allows the implementation of such a system. This system will support increased reliability, more efficient building management operations, and reduced ...

  • This paper presents the system interface standard that are associated with additional devices like sensor nodes as well as fire monitoring panel, panic button and emergency call in city railroad environment. Existing fire monitoring panel, panic button and emergency call system is responsible for fire detection and alarm, emergency alarm and communication with the manager. Recently, researches that are associated with NVR-based intelligent integrated surveillance systems and existing alarm system are activated but most of the system is dedicated to it existing. In order to expand devices that is supported other monitoring function, separate device configuration or modification of integrated surveillance system are inevitable. In this study, interface standard between standard controller, integrated command center and each device that facilitate additional expansion of integrated surveillance system and avoid the extra cost is presented.

  • The 4-20mA analog signal used in the various industrial fields to interface sensor in distributed process control has been replaced with relatively simple digital networks, called "fieldbus, and recently by Ethernet. Significant advances in Internet and computer technology have made it possible to develop an Internet based control, monitoring, and operation scheduling system for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. The seamless integration of data networks with control networks allows access to any control point from anywhere. Field compatible field devices become so-called "smart" devices, capable of executing simple control, diagnostic and maintenance functions and providing bidirectional serial communication to higher level controller. The most important HVAC of BAS has received nationwide attention because of higher portion of more than 40% in building sector energy use and limited resources. This paper presents the Internet-based monitoring and control architecture and development of LonWorks control modules for AHU (air handling units) of HVAC in viewpoint of configuring BAS network. This article addresses issues in architecture section, electronics, embedded processors and software, and internet technologies.

  • This paper is about the implementation of MyTalk, an instant messaging system, which supports human-human and human-thing communication. It consists of agents which are representatives of communication entities, and agent windows for user interfaces. Users can communicate with their buddies, and monitor and control remote "things" and devices with MyTalk. We also introduce the concept of agent window, which provides the most suitable GUIs (text, form, graph etc) for communication. Currently, MyTalk supports ordering goods, controlling devices like printers, monitoring sensors, managing applications, and real-time talk. Furthermore, we can extend it to application platform for remote monitoring, remote controlling, and real time cooperation.
