  • Vibrations caused by automobile engine are absorbed mostly by a passive-type engine mount. However, user specifications for automobile vibrations require more stringent conditions and higher standard. Hence, active-type engine mounts have been developed to cope with such specifications. In this study, the active vibration absorber which can be attached to the sub-frame of automobile is used for the suppression of vibrations caused by engine. The active vibration absorbing system consists of sensor, actuator and controller where a control algorithm is implemented using DSP. The vibration caused by engine reveals harmonic disturbances varying with engine revolution. Therefore, the control algorithm should be able to cope with harmonic disturbances. In this study, the modified higher harmonic control technique which can selectively suppress harmonic disturbance is considered. Experimental results on automobile show that the proposed active vibration absorbing system is effective in suppressing vibrations caused by engine.

The active-type engine mount consists of sensor, actuator and controller where a control algorithm is implemented. The performance of the active engine mount depends on the control algorithm if the sensor and actuator satisfies the specification. The control algorithm should be able to suppress persistent vibrations caused by the engine which are related to engine revolution. In this study, three control algorithms are considered for suppressing persistent vibrations, which are the positive position feedback control algorithm, the strain-rate feedback control algorithm, and the modified higher harmonic control algorithm. Experimental results show that all the control algorithms considered in this study are effective in suppressing resonant vibrations but the modified higher harmonic controller is the most effective controller for non-resonant vibrations.

  • Two types of digital repetitive control systems are analyzed and designed to reduce the error spectrum including not only harmonic but also non-harmonic components. First, a novel gain scheduling algorithm is suggested for conventional and modified repetitive controller is scheduled to reduce the infinite norm of error in frequency domain. For this, the relative error transfer function is mewly defined as the ratio of the error spectrum for the system with a repetitive controller to the error spectrum for the system with a repetitive controller to the error spectrum for the system without a repetitive controller. Secondly, as an alternative of a repetitive control system with the gain scheduling, a repetitive control system with higher order repetitve function is analyzed and designed, where instead of equal weightings, weightings of the higher order repetitive function is determined in such a way that the infinite norm of relative error transfer function is minimized. To show the validities of proposed methods, computer simulation results are illustrated for a typical disk drive head positioning servo system.

  • This paper investigates the effects of applying different input current waveshapes on the performance of a continuous-conduction-mode (CCM) power-factor-correction (PFC) boost pre-regulator. It is found that the output voltage ripple of the pre-regulator can be reduced if the input current is modified to include controlled amount of higher order harmonics. This finding allows us to balance the performance of output regulation and the harmonic current emission when coming to the design of the pre-regulator. An experimental PFC boost pre-regulator prototype is constructed to verify the analysis and show the benefit of the pre-regulator operating with input current containing higher order harmonics.

  • In this paper, a two-level switching algorithm of the deadbeat to control PWM inverter is proposed. A modified algorithm of the deadbeat is suitable for the UPS system. Two levels in the pulse pattern are used. This scheme allows the use of higher switching frequency for a given computation time delay, which results in lower total harmonic distortion at the output. The proposed control scheme is implemented using TMS320F240 DSP chip for controlling on inverter.

  • In this paper, a single phase modified switched-diode topology for both symmetrical and asymmetrical cascaded multilevel inverters is presented. It consists of a Modified Switched-Diode Unit (MSDU) and a Twin Source Two Switch Unit (TSTSU) to produce distinct positive voltage levels according to the operating modes. An additional H-bridge synthesizes a voltage waveform, where the voltage levels of either polarity have less Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). Higher-level inverters can be built by cascading MSDUs. A comparative analysis is done with other topologies. The proposed topology results in reductions in the number of power switches, losses, installation area, voltage stress and converter cost. The Nearest Level Control (NLC) technique is employed to generate the gating signals for the power switches. To verify the performance of the proposed structure, simulation results are carried out by a PSIM under both steady state and dynamic conditions. Experimental results are presented to validate the simulation results.
