There has been current trend running through each generation. All the leading areas in the fashion, art, architect industries etc. are absorbing the needs of the mass users and getting popular and high attentions from the society. One of recent trends are the interior design utilizing the aged style of materials such as bricks, antique and vintage objets. It is applied not only for the cafeteria, movie theater, museum but the cultural space. It reflects the brand-new and Utopian interpretation of design longings for the nostalgia and the old ages. This goes back to the picturesque aesthetics in the 1980s. The term "picturesque" means "picture-like". And it originated from the Utopian vision taken from the landscape paintings of English aristocrat's trip to Europe. it mainly reflects people's longing for the nostalgia and their the happy days in the past. In recent days of bad economies, it has been found in various areas from people's desire for the prosperity in the last days. The objective of this study is to examine the up-current trend of picturesque aesthetics and see its characteristics and how it can be applied to the interior design. And the feasibility study for the necessity of the picturesque aesthetics, any spatioperceptual elements and capable space for human beings to be made for an eclectic space in the desolate modern day life.

The rise of the machine culture in the last 20th century has rapidly changed the world into a high-tech civilized society but at the same time, it also caused environmental estrangements such as damage in the environment and the loss of humanity in the human society due to materialism. As a reaction to the absence of humanity in such environment, in these modern days design which acts as the product of public art, escaped from the previous physical functional satisfaction and stood out as the culture industry that satisfies human's sensibility. This study is focusing on the method of how such sensitive designs are expressed in the interior space of retail shops and such methods are researched through the image evaluation test conducted to the 10 brands of overseas' jewelery shops. The purpose of this study is to analyze the meaning and effects of designs that took consideration of sensibility in a retail shop and to establish efficient marketing strategy using sensitive design and to utilize it into the interior space.

The Department store of today contrary to past plays an important role in the culture of modern market, because of the development of national economy and a rise in the standard of living. The improvement of culture and the high growth of economy made a livelihood fertile, mass production and mass consumption of product based on accumulation of technology caused the industry of distribution to activate, and the change of consumption pattern and various purchasing form resulted in the distribution structure like large scale store. This study was composed of pilot study, the first research, and the second research. In pilot study, the types of interior design the first floor of large-sized department store in the Metropolitan area was classified on the basis of the image of interior design prior researched. The contemporary interior design require unique image frequently because of the qualitative enhancement accompanying segmentation and specialization of space. Especially, the emergence of foreign company along with the change of the distribution environment threaten the domestic interior design industry. Therefore, the interior design plant introducing the image elements is able to have critical influence on forming specialized space in department store. This study investigated the interior design limited to the first floor of large-sized department store in the Metropolitan area, therefore the user's preference and the problem of design in domestic department store of today was not examined well. But this study was able to explore the types of interior design image in the first floor of department store and the relation between consisting elements.

Recent days, transition to ecological thought is being accelerating by environmental impact with a sustainable development. This symptom is no exception in architecture area. So is vernacular design affecting on modern architecture in many ways in terms of economical aspect and eco-friendly environment as well. Natural energy like solar power, environment, and terrestrial heat that applied in vernacular architecture is also widely accepted in name of 'sustainable energy' of which a design applied with ventilation and airing of natural wind is very useful & pragmatic in terms of economical reason. Accordingly, this study examined a relation between vernacular architecture and natural wind and compared it with traditional type and its feature of ventilation & airing. Ventilation & airing applied in the past can be divided into three categories: methods by convection, natural element, and architectural type. All these methods gave some pleasant felling indoors when there were no artificial energies. Even in modern age, such a ventilation & airing is being used with traditional type in different variety of materials, and it will be developed with modern technology without any extra cost in terms of sustainable expansion, and opened for further researches.

This study examines the space composition and character of 16th Renaissance Theater base on the theory of typology and interpreter in the european traditional classic theater. Baroque theater and early modern theater is considered as a symbolic representation of the renaissance theater's organization. In the historical theory, theater Teatro Olimpico and Teatro Farnese was a common tool and best systeme in reflecting renaissance type and perspective system. This role of type as life cycle and new style of theater permanent design has get its value with the population increase. This study attempts to revaluate the need of space typology in modern society through a critical review of theater and its use as a visual space. Content analysis was used to discuss the topics of this study including the historical background of the theater, the relationship between amphitheater and modern theater design, and the role of scenery, auditorium and its impact on Proscenium scenery. The scope of the study is limited to the comparison of 16th european theater and contemporary theater space use program from the space critic and sociologist. Today the concept of theatrical space is altered with the typology of classic and interpreter space. This study provides insights for the future implications of theatrical space in developing space for its a new definition as cultural representation.

This study aims to understand the history of the Victorian age that attached importance to various designs and aesthetic aspects by art and craft movement, and to present that the Victorian pattern is a factor with unlimited possibility in application and development of the modern textile product designs. Therefore, through documents research home and abroad, I considered the periodical background of the Victorian style, a change course of textile, and the theoretical backing of the Victorian pattern, and I studied and analyzed the cases of being applied in the modern textile product designs by classifying apparel, home interior, and fashion accessories. First of all, in apparel, the Victorian pattern transformed into geometrical form had much relative importance, and secondly, in the home interior, the Victorian pattern was expressed realistically or it was represented more boldly and complexly with new materials or techniques introduced. Thirdly, in fashion accessories, decorative nature was shown in intense design with the real description of the Victorian flower pattern and brilliant colors. With these results, it was found out that when the Victorian pattern was applied in the modern textile product designs, it was the factor that could be expected to make a high value added suitable with the modern sense, and it was the pattern with developmental potential with its unlimited use range. Therefore, based on this study, it is considered that the development of textile product designs utilizing the Victorian pattern and academic research, reorganizing the Victorian pattern in accordance with the modern design should be continued.

A purpose of this study was to investigate actual condition of the modern adaptation of interior elements(wall, floor, ceiling. door & window) in traditional house. The examined objects were 185 pictures of restaurants and cafe interior spaces from the 5 different monthly magazines between jan. 1993. to Dec 1997. The results of this study were as follows : 1. Mostly they were either partial adaptation from the original or partially transformed adaptation rather than entire adaptation of the original. 2. Of the traditional interior elements adapted in restaurants and cafe space only specific elements were being adapted. For example partial adaptation from the original were oiled paper flooring(Jangpan) plaster wall ceiling finish that left the rafters and beams exposed(Yondung-chonjang) and window or door frame which is vertical lattices accented with horizontal lattices grouped into three sections(Ttisal-mum) And partially transformed adaptation were oiled paper flooring rice papered (Hangji) wall Yondung-chonjang window or door frame of Wan character(Wanja-mun). 3, In regard to space the mostly adapted spaces were halls rather than rooms.

The purpose of this study was to examine the current interior conditions of internal medicines and the patients'responses to them. Data were collected through questionnaire survey including observations and interviews. The sample consisted of 43 internal medicines in Busan. The data were analyzed by using SPSS-PC. The major findings were as follows: (1) Most of the medicines had a size of 20-50 pyung(66-165$m^2$). The preferred size of internal medicine was 30-70 Pyung. (2) The typical layout of reception room, doctor's room, and injection room was L shape. (3) The most preferred room was waiting room and the worst one was injection room. (4) Painting and tile were mostly used as interior finishing materials. The patients preferred wall papers as wall and ceiling material, and marbles as floor material. Also, the most preferred interior images were modern, western, urban, open, simple, warm and popular images.

This purpose of this study was about the analysis on the dynamic expression of geometric manipulation in interior composition elements. The paradigm of contemporary times became different from paradigm of modern times. The change of paradigm is caused by the side effect of paradigm of pre-times. In the contemporary architectural condition, architecture have a tendency to plural characteristics. This study investigates systemically ‘the DYNAMISM’ as a part of contemporary interior space's feature, based on geometric manipulation in interior composition elements. As library have become changed. Beyond conventional simple functions such as data storing and recording, the functions of modern public libraries are expended to various directions, for example functions of encouraging residents to utilize information and participate in cultural activities and also a function of life-long education, resulting in playing a role as complex space. As the role of public libraries changes into a complex one, spatial planning reflecting this change is required. Spatial arrangements, furniture arrangements and interior images in 12 public libraries in Seoul were analyzed. As a result of the study, it was found that in spatial arrangements, many public libraries linked spaces by functions. Furniture arrangements have been changing from the closed arrangement to the open arrangement. Interior images were identified as static and simple except digital information space. Accordingly, public libraries have became needed to play a proper role of community facilities for local residents by planning furniture arrangements and conducting interior designs taking characteristics of many different users into consideration.
