  • Mobile operators are considering a variety of technical measures to cope with the explosion of data while reducing TCO(Total Cost of Ownership) of their networks. In this paper, to investigate the possibility about one of such technical measures, system level simulation to evaluate the performance of the capacity and mobility was performed in cloud base station structure to apply coordinated multi-point transmission and reception. As a result, we find out that system capacity and mobility performance may be improved according to the scale and application area of cloud base station with the operation of coordinated multi-point transmission and reception, and these mutual causality can provide practical guidelines to mobile network's operation.

  • Due to the nature that high datarate leads to shorter transmission range, the performance enhancement by high datarate 802.11 WLANs may be degraded when applying high datarate to an 802.11 based multihop ad hoc network. In this paper, we evaluate, through extensive simulations, the performance of multihop ad hoc networks at multiple transmission datarates, in terms of the number of hops between source and destination, throughput, end-to-end delay and packet loss. The study is conducted based on both stationary chain topology and mesh topologies with or without node mobility. From numerical results on network performance based on chain topology, we conclude that there is almost no benefit by applying the highest datarate when the chain length is 6 hops or more. With node mobility in mesh topology, the benefit of using high datarate diminishes at even shorter number of hops. To explore the main reasons for this behavior, analyses on multihop end-to-end throughput and network k-connectivity have been conducted later in the paper, and correspondingly an auto-rate adaptation algorithm has been proposed.

  • Mobile peer-to-peer (P2P) systems have recently got in the limelight of the research community that is striving to build efficient and effective mobile content addressable networks. Along this line of research, we propose a new peer-to-peer file sharing protocol suited to mobile ad hoc networks (MANET). The main ingredients of our protocol are network coding and mobility assisted data propagation, i.e., single-hop communication. We argue that network coding in combination with single-hop communication allows P2P file sharing systems in MANET to operate in a more efficient manner and helps the systems to deal with typical MANET issues such as dynamic topology and intermittent connectivity as well as various other issues that have been disregarded in previous MANET P2P researches such as addressing, node/user density, non-cooperativeness, and unreliable channel. Via simulation, we show that our P2P protocol based on network coding and single-hop communication allows shorter file downloading delays compared to an existing MANET P2P protocol.

  • In this paper, we proposed a semi-soft handoff mechanism to provide link mobility in IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN environment. Buffers and routing tables in APs and portals are provided in order to reroute frames, which have not been received during handoff time and have been buffered in an old AP, to a new AP after handoff is performed. For the re -routing operation, the MAC routing table should be updated by exchanging information of a mobile terminal between neighbor APs. With our proposed scheme. a wireless LAN node can perform semi soft handoff while changing its attached AP and provide mobile IP and/or real time service like voice over IP. Also, we have done simulation for evaluation of the performance of the proposed scheme. We show that our semi soft handoff mechanism can be applied for real-time service with no frame loss in mobile environment.

  • The numbers of the elder are rapidly growing who wants to enhance social activities, because Korea is already an aging society since 2000. The mobility and accessibility are the key issues to enhance them. The electric motor scooter and the power wheel chair are efficient movable means at a short range. It would be needed to get on and off them if the elder wants use them after arriving a long distant destination. But the electric scooter is too heavy for a man to get on and off a coach van. The motor winch lift is developed for the elder and the handicapped to get on and off a van easily. The lift consists of 3-linkage which can be installed in a trunk of a van with a small space. The clearance and stress of each component are checked by a computer simulation. The prototype was made. and the performances of safety and comfortableness were verified by operational ability test and durability test.

  • The future mobile networks consist of hyper-dense heterogeneous and small cell networks of same or different radio access technologies (RAT). Integrating mobile networks of different RATs to provide seamless and smooth mobility service will be the target of future mobile converged network. Generally, handover from high-speed networks to low-speed networks faces many challenges from application perspective, such as abrupt bandwidth variation, packet loss, round trip time variation, connection disruption, and transmission blackout. Existing inter-RAT handover solutions cannot solve all the problems at the same time. Based on the high-layer convergence sublayer design, a new receiver-aided soft inter-RAT handover is proposed. This soft handover scheme takes advantage of multihoming ability of multi-mode mobile station (MS) to smooth handover procedure. In addition, handover procedure is seamless and applicable to frequent handover scenarios. The simulation results conducted in UMTS-WiMAX converged network scenario show that: in case of TCP traffics for handover from WiMAX to UMTS, not only handover latency and packet loss are eliminated completely, but also abrupt bandwidth/wireless RTT variation is smoothed. These delightful features make this soft handover scheme be a reasonable candidate of mobility management for future mobile converged networks.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel on-demand multicasting algorithm, 'Durable Distance Vector Multicasting(DDVM),' for Mobile Ad hoc Network(MANET). DDVM has a more efficient routing-control complexity than Link State Routing(LSR) and with the smaller complexity, DDVM provides a high delivery ratio for MANET with high mobility by adapting to dynamic topological changes. This is achieved by adding 'combined path durability' statistic into the routing-control information of Distance Vector Routing(DVR). The routing-path duration statistic is computed in a fully distributed manlier at each node in the network based on only local information from neighbour nodes. We show by simulation studies the effectiveness of DDVM compared with On-demand Multicast Routing Protocol(ODMRP).

  • The traditional sensor network is composed of the cable and the sensor of high price, when collecting a sensing data, there is a weak point which is not pliability. WSN uses the equipment of low price, it will be able to collect the data which is diverse from various node. In this paper we composed coal mining topology which used IEEE802.15.4 MAC in Korea Coal Corporation site. We proposed models for the mobility support of the work manager from the coal mining, we selected the optimum model through simulation experiments. When applying the WSN in the Korea Coal Corporation and other mines, this result can be used as a basis.

  • We propose an intelligent ribbon road network for automatic vehicle simulation, and a real-time algorithm for large-scale, realistic traffic simulation based on artificial energy functions. Our method reconstructs a road network automatically from both GIS (Geographic Information System) real-world data and synthetic models. Such automatic road network helps us to easily simulate almost every possible scenario such as intersections, ramps, etc. In order to simulate agents' movement, we design car-environment interaction energy and car-car interaction energy functions. Car agents move along the road network according to the proposed energy functions while avoiding collisions with other car agents.

  • Horizontal forces may form a major part of the loading system for structures supported on pile groups. It is known that during a strong earthquake, the dynamic behavior of a group-pile foundation is related not only to the inertial force coming from the superstructures but also to the deformation of the surrounding ground. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the behaviors of the group-pile foundations and superstructures during major earthquakes. In this paper, numerical simulation of real-scale group-pile foundation subjected to horizontal cyclic loading is conducted by using a program named as DBLEAVES. In the analysis, nonlinear behaviors of ground and piles are described by cyclic mobility model and axial force dependent model (AFD model). The purpose of this paper is to prove availability of the analysis method by comparing numerical results and test results.
