  • Mobility management is an important issue in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) because location information of mobile nodes is frequently changed and it aggravates the performance in MANETs drastically. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy logic based mobility management scheme using group quorum system by considering the mobile nodes' locality in order to manage location information of mobile nodes in MANETs efficiently. The proposed scheme selects mobility databases adaptively from group quorum system by considering the degree of locality of a mobile node. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated by an analytical model and compared with that of existing mobility management scheme.

  • This paper proposes an efficient location management scheme for next-generation cellular mobile networks. In the proposed scheme, the users are classified into two classes according to their mobility patterns; high mobility users (HMU) and low mobility users (LMU). We design the intelligent location management strategy based on theme user mobility classes. The performance of the proposed scheme is compared with that of pure intelligent paging scheme by computer simulation. As a result, it is shown that the proposed scheme provides the better performance than the pure intelligent paging scheme.

  • This paper proposes a user mobility management scheme which supports seamless service even if a user changes his accessing terminal in service in IP-based convergence network. Most of ongoing researches concerning mobility management as well as the existing mobility schemes have been focused to support terminal mobility. It is limited to support a variety of mobility types such as user mobility. The proposed scheme uses the mapping relationship between UID(User Identifier), user specific identifier and TID(Terminal Identifier), specific terminal identifier and forms packet address with user specific permanent 3 layer address for session continuity in case of user mobility. We numerically analyze and compare handover signaling cost between the existing user mobility scheme and the proposed scheme. The result shows that the proposed scheme has lower handover signaling cost than the existing one, [1].

  • An efficient mobility management for mobile stations plays an important role in mobile communication network. This paper studies the mobility management scheme that combines a distance-based registration(DBR) and a selective paging (SP). We introduce an analytical model based on 2-dimensional random walk mobility model and evaluate the performance of the proposed mobility management scheme using the model to determine the optimal size of location area that results in the minimum signaling traffic on radio channels. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed mobility management scheme under various circumstances. These results can be used effectively in design and evaluation of registration methods considering the system circumstances.

  • IP-based Wireless Sensor Networks (IP-WSNs) are gaining importance for their broad range of applications in health care, home automation, environmental monitoring, industrial control, vehicle telematics, and agricultural monitoring. In all these applications, a fundamental issue is the mobility in the sensor network, particularly with regards to energy efficiency. Because of the energy inefficiency of network-based mobility management protocols, they can be supported via IP-WSNs. In this paper, we propose a network-based mobility-supported IP-WSN protocol called mSFP, or the mSFP: "Multicasting-supported Inter-Domain Mobility Management Scheme in Sensor-based Fast Proxy Mobile IPv6 Networks". Based on [8,20], we present its network architecture and evaluate its performance by considering the signaling and mobility cost. Our analysis shows that the proposed scheme reduces the signaling cost, total cost, and mobility cost. With respect to the number of IP-WSN nodes, the proposed scheme reduces the signaling cost by 7% and the total cost by 3%. With respect to the number of hops, the proposed scheme reduces the signaling cost by 6.9%, the total cost by 2.5%, and the mobility cost by 1.5%. With respect to the number of IP-WSN nodes, the proposed scheme reduces the mobility cost by 1.6%.

This paper studios a zone-based registration (ZBR) that is implemented in most of mobile communication systems. We introduce the mobility management scheme that combines a zone-based registration and a selective paging (SP) and analyze its performance. We set up an analytical model based on 2-dimensional random walk mobility model and evaluate the performance of the proposed mobility management scheme using the model to determine the optimal size of location area which will result in the minimum signaling traffic on radio channels. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed mobility management scheme under various circumstances.

  • Distributed mobility management (DMM) does not use a centralized device. Its mobility functions are distributed among routers; therefore, the mobility services are not limited to the performance and reliability of specific mobility management equipment. The DMM scheme has been studied as a partially distributed architecture, which distributes only a packet delivery domain in combination with the software defined network (SDN) technology that separates the packet delivery and control areas. Particularly, a separated control area is advantageous in introducing a new service, thereby optimizing the network by recognizing the entire network situation and taking an optimal decision. The SDN-based mobility management scheme is studied as a method to optimize the packet delivery path whenever a mobile node moves; however, it results in excessive signaling processing cost. To reduce the high signaling cost, we propose a hybrid distributed mobility management method and analyze its performance mathematically.

  • In wireless mobile networks, the service area is partitioned into several registration areas (RAs). Every RA is associated with a mobility database called Visitor Location Register (VLR). The VLR is used to achieve the location management of the mobile terminals. When a mobile terminal enters a new RA, the VLR stores the current location information of the mobile terminal before serving any mobile services. At that time, if the VLR is full, the registration procedure fails, and the system can not deliver services to the mobile user under the existing cellular technology To resolve this problem, we propose a VLR overflow control scheme considering mobility of mobile users to accomodate incoming users during VLR overflow. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated by an analytic model in terms of costs for the location search and the location update, and compared with those of the overflow control scheme proposed by Lin[1].

  • Mobile Ad-Hoc network is the network(MANET) of mobile nodes which has no fixed infrastructure, and mobile node in MANET can move and communicate freely each other. Recently, many researches for mobility management of mobile nodes are actively carried out by using the location information of mobile nodes. The location management is an important issue in MANET because location information of mobile node is frequently changed in MANET. In this paper, an adaptive mobility management scheme using fuzzy-logic based GQS by considering the mobile locality is proposed in order to manage location information of mobile nodes in MANET efficiently. The proposed scheme selects mobility databases adaptively from GQS by considering the locality of mobile node. The performance of the mobility management scheme proposed in this paper is evaluated by an analytic model and compared with that of existing UQS based mobility management scheme.

  • In this paper, we introduce a quality of experience (QoE)-provisioning mobility management scheme. The emphasis is on a mobility-aware QoE solution enabling network components to recognize the mobility pattern of an end-user and to prepare a handover in advance. We further focus on an energy-adaptive QoE solution based on the energy profile providing the preferred pattern of energy consumption and an energy preference check engine determining whether the provision of the service that the end-user requested is suitable to QoE or not. Lastly, we concentrate on a network-based intelligent mobility management scheme adopting the calm service and the balance. Consequently, we conclude that the proposed schemes improve the handover latency, QoE metrics, and energy efficiency simultaneously.
