Providing a mobile host with its required QoS is highly influenced by its mobility. The resource ReSerVation Protocol(RSVP) establishes and maintains a reservation state to ensure a given QoS level along the path from the sender to the receiver. However, RSVP is designed for use in fixed networks and thus it is inadequate in the mobile networking environment where a host changes its point of attachment. In this paper, we propose a new resource reservation protocol, RSVP-RA(RSVP by RSVP Agent) for mobile hosts. Our protocol assumes IETF Mobile IP as a mobility support mechanism. The proposed protocol introduce a new protocol entity - RSVP agent - to manage reservations in a mobile host's current visiting network. RSVP Agent is located in a local network and makes resource reservations in neighboring cells that the mobile host is expected to visit in the future. Thus, the proposed Protocol can provide a seamless QoS to the mobile host and significantly improve the scalability problem of RSVP by reducing the end-to-end signalling messages acrossing the backbone networks. The proposed protocols reduce packet delay, bandwidth overhead and the number of RSVP messages to maintain reservation states. We compared the performance of our proposed protocol with other proposed protocols in terms of signalling overhead, packet delay by simulation.
Applied with multicast transmission techniques in mobile computing environments, a mobile host will experience join and graft delay, happened when a host wants to join a multicast group in the fixed network, if there are no same multicast group member in the new cell the mobile host enters. Due to low bandwidth and higher error rate, there happens many additional traffic. In this paper, we propose a pre-join technique which new mobile support station joins the multicast group in advance based on signal strength hint in the current cell. We use the multiple level acknowledgement strategy that executes acknowledgment separately between the fixed part and the wireless transmission path. Using our strategy, it is an efficient technique in case there are more cells that has no multicast group members and less mobile host movements.

AMobile-supported spatial database systems have been introduced with development of mobile computing technology, they offer an advantage that we can access the data wherever we are. However, the studies on database system in traditional distributed environments must be reconsidered again, because of characteristics of mobile database system such as mobility and instability of wireless network. A new transaction model should be required for considering the characteristics, since especially a mobile computing environment is location-dependent, compared with the location transparency in a distributed computing environment. In other aspect, normally mobile host may be moving not in all space, but in some limited path. That is, a host is moving along the roads or the geographical features adjacent to the roads. The transaction processing should be considered not on the spatial coordinate but on the geographical features. In this paper, the feature based transaction processing model is proposed to process location-dependent transaction efficiently.
It has been known that the host mobility feature has very significant impact on the QoS (Quality of Service), which is usually required to a real-time multimedia application. The existing QoS support mechanisms to provide the real-time services to fixed network environment, like as RSVP, are inadequate to accommodate the mobile hosts which can frequently change their point of attachments to the fixed network. So, MRSVP (Mobile RSVP) protocol has been proposed to reduce the impacts of host mobility on QoS guarantees, in which a mobile host needs to make advance resource reservations at multiple locations it may possibly visit during the lifetime of the connection. This paper proposes a dynamic dual anchor node (DDAN) architecture which integrates the MRSVP and RSVP tunnel, in addition to the Mobile IP Regional Registration protocol. By limiting the resource reserved in local area, it preserves the lower level of resource reservation, but provides approximately the same degree of QoS support as the existing MRSVP.

Recently, a variety of new routing protocols targeted specifically wireless mobile nodes environment have been developed. This paper presents the results of a detailed packet level simulation comparing two multi-hop wireless ad-hoc network routing protocols that cover a range of design choices between DSDV and DSR. And we suggest a performance comparison of network routing protocols through NS-2 simulator.
In this paper, we propose strategies that eliminating packet loss and minimize delay time during handoff under wireless LAN environments. As a mobile host moves between cells, a handoff takes place. A few handoff protocol have been proposed to eliminate the packet loss, but they have a heavy overhead. So, We proposed handoff protocol using the next-cell prediction scheme that send not to current BS but to mobile host and next BS, therefore next BS buffered packet send mobile host after handoff. We also present simulation results for our simulation using the Network Simulator (ns2). The simulations show that our handoff scheme is no packet loss.
In mobile computing environments, a mobile host caches the data to use the narrow bandwidth efficiently and improve the response time. A server periodically broadcasts the update data for maintaining the cache consistency of a mobile host. However, a method for maintaining cache consistency using periodic invalidation report has a problem that defers the commit decision of a mobile transaction to guarantee its serializable execution. In this paper, we propose CCM-AD method that guarantees the serializable execution of a mobile transaction even in the case that it is executed using cached data. As CCM-AD method guarantees the serializable execution of mobile transactions by using the intersection between the data broadcast to mobile host and the data updated at server. Then the CCM-AD method can reduce the delay of commitment decision of a mobile transaction. Also our method can reduce the size of invalidation report.
In mobile computing environments, a mobile host caches the data items to use the bandwidth efficiently and improve the response time of transactions. If the data items cached in mobile host are updated in the server, the server broadcasts an invalidation report for maintaining the cache consistency of mobile hosts. However, this method has a problem that the response time of mobile transactions can be long since their commit decision is delayed until receiving the invalidation report from the server In this paper, we propose the USR-MT method for improving the response time of mobile transactions. As the UGR-MT method can make a commit decision by using the data group information before receiving the invalidation report, the response time of mobile transactions can be improved. Also our method can improve the cache's efficiency since it prevents all the contents of a cache from being invalidated in the case that the disconnection of a mobile host is longer than the broadcast period of invalidation report.

Mobile-IP has been designed to have mobile computer users move from place to place without changing their IP addresses. Mobile-IP introduces the following entities to support mobility: Home Agent. Foreign Agent, etc., and it uses the techniques such as Agent Discovery, Registration. and Tunnelling. Mobile-IP route optimization provides a mechanism by which correspondent nodes are enable to know the mobile host's care-of address to alleviate the triangle routing problem. As a further performance improvement, to alleviate the overhead resulted from the frequent local mobility within a site hierarchical foreign agents are presented, and as a foreign agent which is willing to participate in communication maintain a buffering mechanism not to loss packets for mobile host, smooth handoffs is presented. In this paper, the problems to be thought to support host's mobility and the existing method to support it is discussed.

In the future mobile computing environment, it will be generalized that a mobile host with portable Laptop of Palmtop accesses to database through wireless communication channel. For solving the problems which are caused from low bandwidth of wireless communication, mobile hosts cache the datum used frequently on them. Thus the mobile hosts must always retain the cache consistency for the correctness of the cached datum. the cache consistency is mainly affected from the unrestricted host mobility and the disconnection of the communication between mobile hosts and mobile support station. In this situation, the strategy to retain efficiently cache consistency is required. In this paper, we propose a strategy using updatable message for retaining the cache consistency, in the mobile computing environment, with replicated database supporting 2 phase commit protocol. This strategy makes use of a updatable message to resolve the cache consistency problem, since mobile host crosses the boundary of cell. In using of this updatable, it find out and cache only the update data of missing invalidation message. As a result, the proposed strategy utilizes network bandwidth efficiently because it is not need to delete all the cached datum with any datum change.
