  • In this paper, we proposed an internal multiband loop embedded monopole antenna for mobile handset that could be used for smart phones. The proposed antenna has a volume of 40 mm(W) ${\times}$ 15 mm(L) ${\times}$ 5 mm(H), ground plane size is 40 mm(W) ${\times}$ 80 mm(L), and covers the GSM900 (Global System for Mobile communications : 880-960 MHz), K-PCS (Korea-Personal Communications Service : 1750-1870 MHz), US-PCS (US Personal Communications Service : 1850-1990 MHz), WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access : 1920-2170 MHz), Wibro (2300-2390 MHz), Bluetooth (2400-2483 MHz) and WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network : 2400-2483.5 MHz) bands for VSWR (voltage standing wave ration) less than 3. The proposed loop adding design at middle section of longest branch showed wide impedance bandwidth for the lowest resonance frequency band. The proposed antenna have a lowest resonance frequency band from 738 MHz to 1075 MHz for S11 value of -6dB. A HFSS (High Frequency Structure Simulator) of the Ansys Corporation based on a finite element method is employed to analyze the proposed antenna in the design process and to compare the simulation and experimental results.

  • In this paper, a wide band helical antenna for mobile handset using parasitic element effect has been investigated. To obtain the effect of parasitic element, we utilized the cylindrical conductor which is not feed. As thickness of cylindrical conductor is increasing, second and third resonance frequency become abruptly variable. In case of that 4.5mm diameter parasitic element cylindrical conductor is inserted, normal mode helical antenna obtained bandwidth of around 900 MHz on the limit of R. L., - 5 dB.

  • A community can have a physical presence or can be formed from a group of people who communicate remotely via a conference call, a fixed Internet chatroom or instant message solution and most recently, a mobile handset. The mobile handset gives community members the advantage over fixed line or physical communities that they are not constricted by time or place as to when they can communicate with any members of their community. Operators, riding on the back of the SMS boom, are deploying community applications to increase both average revenue per user and customer loyalty. The purpose of this study is to find the effects of the characteristics of mobile community on the consumers'satisfaction and loyalty so that operators'participation in mobile community could be enhanced. A general model for the study was proposed with three independent variables. The variables are community usability(dialog and social support, information design, navigation, access), community sociability (purpose, people, policies), and mobile community content(location, personalization, immediacy, availability).

  • In this paper, PIFA(Planar Inverted F Antenna) which operates in PCS(Personal Communication System) band is designed and characteristics are investigated. Designed PIFA was installed in three types of handsets, folder, bar, slide, and the performance was evaluated. Head and hand phantom were added to make the most similar environment to real condition of mobile phone use, and influences on antenna performance were analyzed. The simulation results confirm radiation patterns are greatly changed and antenna efficiency is decreased by the effect of human body. Performance variation of the mobile handset antenna was observed as changing the angle between mobile handset and head phantom from $0^{\circ}$ to $2^{\circ},\;4^{\circ}$ to confirm the variation caused by the relative position of mobile handset and head phantom. Directivity was decreased gradually as the antenna goes away from head phantom, and showed the trend of increasing efficiency. But in the case of bar type, where the position of antenna is relatively close to head phantom, that trend didn't show. It was confirmed that the shape of handset has a great effect on the performance.

  • It's introduced a BLA(Branch Loop Antenna) that is modified from conventional loop, and verified antenna performances for applying to mobile handset. Branch elements are added to a rectangular loop, and low resonance is obtained by the length of the branch line. When resonance frequency of a single loop is 2.5GHz, BLA had near 900 MHz under the same antenna size. Multiple resonances are established by the locations of branch connection and their lengths. By the implementation and measurement for the dual band BLA, it's showed 75MHz -10dB bandwidth and -3.03~-1.46dBi average gains with 49.73~71.39% efficiencies at GSM900 band, and 90MHz -6dB bandwidth and -8.14~-2.17dBi average gains with 15.34~60.62% efficiencies at DCS1900 band. And H-plane radiation patterns were omni-directional. These performances are good for the mobile handset antenna.

  • In the mobile telecommunication industry, the effects of handset subsidies are revealed as two aspects. There are the activation of service and handset market and the acceleration of related technology development in the desirable aspect. On the other hand, the rise in service rates and the squandering of the related resources in the undesirable one. There have been a lot of researches that disclose the desirable or undesirable factors through the qualitative methods. However, the quantitative studies are rare. In this study, we consider the positive, from the increase of demand, and negative, from the increase of service rates, effects on consumers' benefit attendant handset subsidies. Then, we quantitatively compared between the positive and negative effects and analyze the direct effects of consumers' benefit of handset subsidies, and figured out that the direct effect is not expected to be positive.

  • Mobile phone-related industries have been mainly concentrated on attracting the new customers and increasing the market share such as for the aggressive marketing activities, but it is the time to find an effective strategy to preserve existing customers since the mobile phone market had already reached the saturation. In this study, the properties of mobile phone that influence on the choice of handset and telecom company were analyzed. General properties of respondents were explored and the mobile phone properties were grouped by common factors. And analyzed the effect of factors on customer satisfaction with structural equation model. 10.4% of respondents are used their handset more than two years and 48.7% wanted to purchase other manufacturer's handset if they repurchase mobile phone. These results might come form the fact that the life cycle of mobile phone become shorter by the heating competition in mobile phone market and, to some degree, the influence of smart phone which recently become globally popular. Four factors, 'Hardware Quality', 'Practicality', 'Convergence Functions' and 'Level of Awareness', are induced from the mobile phone properties. In Structural Equation Model analysis, 'Hardware Quality' and 'Practicality' have significant and positive effects on Customer Satisfaction. But, 'Awareness' such as brand and trend appeared quite less influence on the customer satisfaction.

  • Recently, in according as rapid improvement of telecommunication markets and wireless internet technology, Location- Based Services (LBS) have been discussed as new 'Killer' application. The purpose of LBS is to determine location of user through mobile handset and to offer location information service to end-user. This paper has suggested an efficient transmission scheme of maps data as one of the important content services relating to data transmission of LBS in mobile environment. The basic system consists of three parts : (1) GIS (Geographic Information System) Server for storing, processing and handling map data, (2) Middleware Server for transmitting of map data by request of client, and (3) Client for requesting map data to Server and displaying them on handset. Also, in order to transmit map data, we are to expand WKB (Well Known Binary) in conformance to Simple Feature Specification of OGC (Open GIS Consortium), and increase efficiency of data transmission by developing trans mission data format to be able to transmit lightweight data and considering data compression technology.
