Modeling & Performance Analysis of the MAC Protocol for VDL in the Aeronautical Mobile Communication System (항공이동통신 시스템에서 VDL을 위한 MAC 프로토콜 모델링 및 성능 분석)

  • This paper analysis the STDMA protocol in aviation wireless data communications and carry out the performance analysis with simulation. The STDMA protocol that is currently being used in VDL Mode-4 has TDMA system characteristics, which provides time-division into several slots per one frame. The results of modeled STDMA protocol's data channel analysis show approximate 0.7 channel throughput at the transmission probabilities 0.045, 0.2, and 0.3 in the aspects of channel throughput. The delay time are 2.32434sec, 2.0293sec, and 2.12128sec respectively. These results shows the good stability in spite of variable transmission probabilities. Consequently, it is expected that STDMA protocol would be used properly for domestic communication demands and supervision system improvement by means of applying this to point-to-point communication and data/location broadcasting as a fundamental technology in CNS/ATM.

A Design of Initial Cell Searcher for 3GPP LTE Downlink System (3GPP LTE 하향링크 시스템을 위한 초기 셀 탐색기 설계)

  • In 3GPP LTE downlink system, initial cell search is essential for mobile station to connect to base station. In order to obtain information of the base station, the mobile station detects frame timing, frequency offset, and cell identification using primary synchronization channel(PSC) and secondary synchronization channel(SSC), which are defined in downlink OFDMA specification. In this paper, we analyze various detection algorithms in practical environment of inter-cell-interference, frequency offset, and multi-path fading channel and propose the optimal algorithm. Simulation results show that partial correlation method (for PSC acquisition) and interference cancellation method (for SSC detection) are the most superior algorithms among the applicable algorithms. Employ these two algorithms for receiver design, initial cell search is performed with 99% probability within 70ms in the channel environment considered.

  • The technique of simultaneous localization and mapping is the most important research topic in mobile robotics. In the process of building a map in its available memory, the robot memorizes environmental information on the plane of grid or topology. Several approaches about this technique have been presented so far, but most of them use mapping technique as either grid-based map or topology-based map. In this paper we propose a frame of solving the SLAM problem of linking map covering, map building, localizing, path finding and obstacle avoiding in an automatic way. Some algorithms integrating grid and topology map are considered and this make the SLAM performance faster and more stable. The proposed scheme uses an occupancy grid map in representing the environment and then formulate topological information in path finding by A${\ast}$ algorithm. The mapping process is shown and the shortest path is decided on grid based map. Then topological information such as direction, distance is calculated on simulator program then transmitted to robot hardware devices. The localization process and the dynamic obstacle avoidance can be accomplished by topological information on grid map. While mapping and moving, pose of the robot is adjusted for correct localization by implementing additional pixel based image layer and tracking some features. A laser range finer and electronic compass systems are implemented on the mobile robot and DC geared motor wheels are individually controlled by the adaptive PD control method. Simulations and experimental results show its performance and efficiency of the proposed scheme are increased.

  • In this paper, the design application for the lightweight and insulation of the manipulator of the mobile welding robot for the closed/narrow space is presented. A variety of robotic platforms have been developed for weld-worker using a welding robot outside a workpiece for welding work in a complex and narrow space such as a ship or an offshore plant. Normally, The development process of robots consists of machine development, electronic device development, control algorithm development and integration verification considering application environment and requirements. In order to develop the robustness of the welding robot, the lightweight design of the robot manipulator considering the environmental conditions was performed in the basic design of the robot platform. Also, The results of the robot selection and validation, analysis and testing for the insulation performance and cooling performance and the results of the research are shown.

  • Recently, the smart devices has been possessed by a large majority of the adult, and offered various personalization services. This paper proposed the lightweight Intelligent Image Security System that notice the existence of any intruder in real time at the place of requiring the security by using smart device. The proposed image security system recognized whether or not intruder exists using the difference frame on the basis of Integral Image and the dynamic background updating algorithms. The intrusion notification is achieved by using the GCM push server that send massages in the application unit of user mobile device, and the SMTP mail server which is use of e-mail standard protocol. In case of the occurrence of intruder, GCM push server send an push-massage by the private mobile device, and SMTP mail server send the intruder's photograph and intrusion time. By the convergence of the various image processing algorithms and the performance of smart device, The proposed image security system can be applied to the various Intelligent Image Security field.

Effective Transmission System of Multimedia Services using Eureka-147 DAB (Eureka-147 DAB를 통한 멀티미디어 서비스의 효율적인 전송시스템)

  • The Eureka-147 Digital Audio Broadcasting(DAB) system is the new international standard for mobile broadcasting services including high-quality audio, program associated data and other multimedia data. In this paper, we design the transport frame structures for the mobile multimedia services by using the configuration of the Eureka-147 DAB multiplex and MPEG system specifications, and then compare their performances in terms of functionality and overhead. Especially, we suggest and analyze the effective transport structures, which are improved in the efficiency of media multiplexing architecture, by removing the functionally overlapped parts between DAB and MPEG systems. In addition, we evaluate the transmission environments of various DAB data channels and demonstrate the transmission error effects on the low bit rate video stream.

Development of the Dripping Speed Measurement System of Medical Liquid using Heuristic (휴리스틱을 이용한 의료 수액 낙하 속도 측정 시스템 개발)

  • This paper describes the medical and IT convergence system using a smart phone and a heuristic method for the measurement of the dripping speed of the liquid in a drip chamber, which can estimate the remaining time using pattern recognition and difference image from video frame information based on Android technology. The video frames were first made using a smartphone camera and we calculated the difference image between the n image and the (n-1) image and then changed into binary images using the threshold value. At this point, it is very important to find an optimal threshold value using heuristic method to recognize the dripping of the liquids. In addition, the user can adjust the dripping speed according to the doctor's prescription, exactly like watching the progress bar of a mobile application. The experiment results show that our method using video processing technique accurately measures the dripping speed for a wide range of speeds that are sufficient for ordinary practice.

  • In this paper, we work for the efficient use of the initial ranging contention slot in OFDMA based wireless mobile networks. Specially, the collision reduction method using an automatic adaptive optimal algorithm is studied for initial ranging contention slot used at initial connection of the mobile terminals. As a result, we propose the algorithm that achieves the collision minimization and the auto-dynamic slot arrangement of the initial ranging slots. To evaluate the proposed algorithm, we compare the simulation results of IEEE802.16e fixed initial ranging slot allocation method versus the proposed algorithm. The simulator is developed based on the IEEE802.16e standard MAC frame structure and processing procedures. As the simulation results, we can expect the proposed algorithm can be applied for the unmanned coastal base station because the proposed algorithm has the effect of minimizing administration cost for the base station.

  • While IoT (Internet of Things) industry has been spreading, it becomes very important for object to recognize user's information by itself without any control. Above all, gender (male, female) is dominant factor to analyze user's information on account of social and biological difference between male and female. However since each gender consists of diverse face feature, face-based gender classification research is still in challengeable research field. Also to apply gender classification system to IoT, size of device should be reduced and device should be operated with low power. Consequently, To port the function that can classify gender in real-world, this paper contributes two things. The first one is new gender classification algorithm based on deep learning and the second one is to implement real-time gender classification system in embedded board operated by low power. In our experiment, we measured frame per second for gender classification processing and power consumption in PC circumstance and mobile GPU circumstance. Therefore we verified that gender classification system based on deep learning works well with low power in mobile GPU circumstance comparing to in PC circumstance.

Hardware Implementation of Rasterizer with SIMD Architecture Applicable to Mobile 3D Graphics System (모바일 3차원 그래픽스 시스템에 적용 가능한 SIMD 구조를 갖는 래스터라이저의 하드웨어 구현)

  • In this paper, we describe research results of developing hardware rasterizer that is applicable to mobile 3D graphics system, designed in SIMD architecture and verified in FPGA. Tile-based scan conversion unit is designed like SIMD architecture running four tiles simultaneously and each tile traverses pixels hierarchical in 3-level so that visiting counts is minimized. As experimental results, $8{\times}8$ is the most efficient size of tile and the last step of tile traversing is performed on $2{\times}2$ sized subtile. The rasterizer supports flat shading and gouraud shading and texture mapper supports affine mapping and perspective corrected mapping. Also, texture mapper supports point sampling mode and bilinear interpolating sampling mode and two types of wrapping modes and various blending modes. The rasterzer operates as 120Mhz on xilinx vertex4 $l{\times}100$ device. To easy verification, texture memory and frame buffer are generated as block rom and block ram.
