In this paper, a THz Yagi-Uda antenna with high input impedance is designed. By placing the antenna on a thin substrate, end-fire radiation patterns with high antenna impedance can be obtained even when the substrate has high relative dielectric constant. The proposed Yagi-Uda antenna has high input resistance of approximately $4,400{\Omega}$ at the resonance frequency which is obtained by using a U-shaped dipole as a driver element. It is expected that the Yagi-Uda antenna on a thin substrate can achieve much higher terahertz output power than the conventional THz antennas.
Biological nitrogen fixation is an important process for academic and industrial aspects. This review will briefly compare industrial and biological nitrogen fixation and cover the characteristics of biological nitrogen fixation studied in Azotobacter vinelandii. Various organisms can carry out biological nitrogen fixation and recently the researches on the reaction mechanism were concentrated on the free-living microorganism, A. vinelandii. Nitrogen fixation, which transforms atmospheric $N_2$ into ammonia, is chemically a reduction reaction requiring electron donation. Nitrogenase, the biological nitrgen fixer, accepts electrons from biological electron donors, and transfers them to the active site, FeMo-cofactor, through $Fe_4S_4$ cluster in Fe protein and P-cluster in MoFe protein. The electron transport and the proton transport are very important processes in the nitrogenase catalysis to understand its reaction mechanism, and the interactions between FeMo-cofactor and nitrogen molecule are at the center of biological nitrogen fixation mechanism. Spectroscopic studies including protein X-ray crystallography, EPR and $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$, biochemical approaches including substrate and inhibitor interactions as well as site-directed mutation study, and chemical approach to synthesize the FeMo-cofactor model compounds were used for biological nitrogen fixation study. Recent research results from these area were presented, and finally, a new nitrogenase reaction mechanism will be proposed based on the various research results.

Fatigue tests were performed to investigate the effect of ceramic coatings as in TiN and TiCN on fatigue crack growth properties of ceramic coated 1Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel with different coating thickness in laboratory air conditions. The experimental results are described with respect to a Paris equation, da/dN=C(.DELTA.K)$^{m}$ , where the crack growth rate of coated specimens provided as similar growth rate as that of the uncoated specimen regardless of coating thickness. Furthermore, it was observed that the type of coating layer had virtually no effect on crack growth rate in the full region of stress intensity factor range. And it was also appeared that the final crack length of TiCN coated specimens was short compared to that of TiN coated, and the substrate specimens, in which it was inferred due to lowering the toughness of coated material from high hardness of TiCN coating layer itself.
$>LaMnO_3$$(La, Sr)MO_3$, and $(La, Sr)MO_3/YSZ$ gel films were deposited by spin-coating technique on scandium-doped zirconia (YSZ) substrate using the precursor solution prepared from $La(O-i-C_3H_7)_3$, $Co(CH_3COO)_2$or $Mn(O-i-C_3H_7)_2$,2-methoxyethanol, and polyethylene glycol. By heat-treating the gel films, the electrochemical cells, $(La, Sr)MnO_3{\mid}ScSZ{\mid}Pt$ were fabricated. The effect of polyethylene glycol on the microstructure evolution of $$LaCoO_3and $LaMnO_3$thin films was investigated, and NOx decomposition characteristics of the electrochemical cells were investigated at $500^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$. By applying a direct current to the $(La, Sr)MnO_3{\mid}ScSZ{\mid}Pt$ electrochemical cell, good NOx conversion rate could be obtained relatively at low current value even if excess oxygen is included in the reaction gas mixture.
The Effects of additional element X (X = Si, Mo, Cu, Gd) on magnetic properties and microstructure of Co-1Zat%Cr-Zat%Ta/Cr-X magnetic thin film were investigated. The thickness changes of Cr-X underlayer and CoCrTa magnetic layer were in the range of $1000~2000\AA$ and $200~800\AA$. respectively. Substrate temperatures were controlled from $100^{\circ}C$ to $200^{\circ}C$. Increase of coercivity by about 100~200 Oe was observed in CoCrTa/Cr-X thin films compared to those without additional X element. Cu was the most effective additional element for increasing coercivity. CoCrTa/Cr-Cu thin film shows relatively high coercivity in $1500\AA$ underlayer thickness and $600\AA$ magnetic layer thickness.

Presence of cracks in electrodeposited hard chromium layer, which provide a path of corrosive media to steel substrate, is a serious issue in metal finishing with chromium electroplating. In this study, we added sodium molybdate in an electrolyte for chromium electroplating bath. 130g/L of sodium molybdate in Sargent bath for chromium electroplating causes a codepostion of molybdenum with chromium in a rage of 0.61 ~ 3.14 wt.%. The co-deposited molybdenum enhances the crystallinity of chromium layer, thus the hardness is slightly decreases by the addition of molybdate in electrolyte. However, due to the co-deposition of molybdenum, a crack-free chromium layer could be electrodeposited. Such crack-free chromium layer shows a significantly improved corrosion resistance.

For the realization of higher reliable transition metal dichalcogenide layer, molybdenum disulfide was formed on sapphire substrate by direct current sputtering and subsequent rapid thermal annealing process. Unlike RF sputtered MoS2 thin films, DC sputtered showed no irregular holes and protrusions after annealing process from scanning electron microscope images. From atomic force microscope results, it was possible to investigate that surface roughness of MoS2 thin films were more dependent on DC sputtering power then annealing temperature. On the other hand, the Raman scattering spectra showed the dependency of significant E12g and A1g peaks on annealing temperatures.

A lot of studies are undergoing on the magneto-optical (MO) properties of patterned magnetic systems for the reason that they have potential application to information technology such as ultrahigh-speed computing. Moreover, they can be considered as the future candidates for high-density MO storage devices. Not only the technical aspects, but there have been also tremendous interests in studying their properties related to the fundamental physics. The MO Kerr-rotation effects (both in reflected and the diffracted modes) and the magnetic force microscopy (MFM) are very useful techniques to investigate the micromagnetic properties of such periodic structures. Hence, in this study, we report on the MO properties of bilayered Cobalt (Co)/ nickel (Ni) micro-patterned anti-dot arrays. Such a ferromagnetic structure was made by sequentially depositing co (40 nm)/Ni (5 nm) bilayer on a Si substrate. The anti-dot patterning with hole diameter of $1{\mu}m$ was done only on the upper Co layer using photolithography technique, while the Ni underlayer was kept uniform. The longitudinal Kerr rotation (LKR) of the zeroth- and the first-order diffracted beams were measured at an incidence of $30^{\circ}$ by using a photoelastic modulator method. The external magnetic field was applied perpendicularly to the reflected and the diffracted beams using an electromagnet capable of a maximum field of ${\pm}5$ kOe. Significantly, it was observed that the LKR of the first-order diffracted beam is nearly 4 times larger than that of the zeroth-order beam. The simulated results for the hysteresis loops matched qualitatively well with the experimentally obtained ones. In conjunction with the LKR, we also investigated the magnetic-domain structure by using a MFM system, which were analyzed to elucidate the origin of the enhanced MO rotation.
By using ionic liquid 1-hexylpyridinium hexafluorophosphate ($HPPF_6$) based carbon ionic liquid electrode (CILE) as the substrate electrode, a $CoMoO_4$ nanorods and myoglobin (Mb) composite was casted on the surface of CILE with chitosan (CTS) as the film forming material to obtain the modified electrode (CTS/$CoMoO_4$-Mb/CILE). Spectroscopic results indicated that Mb retained its native structures without any conformational changes after mixed with $CoMoO_4$ nanorods and CTS. Electrochemical behaviors of Mb on the electrode were carefully investigated by cyclic voltammetry with a pair of well-defined redox peaks from the heme Fe(III)/Fe(II) redox center of Mb appeared, which indicated that direct electron transfer between Mb and CILE was realized. Electrochemical parameters such as the electron transfer number (n), charge transfer coefficient (${\alpha}$) and electron transfer rate constant ($k_s$) were estimated by cyclic voltammetry with the results as 1.09, 0.53 and 1.16 $s^{-1}$, respectively. The Mb modified electrode showed good electrocatalytic ability toward the reduction of trichloroacetic acid in the concentration range from 0.1 to 32.0 mmol $L^{-1}$ with the detection limit as 0.036 mmol $L^{-1}$ ($3{\sigma}$), and the reduction of $H_2O_2$ in the concentration range from 0.12 to 397.0 ${\mu}mol\;L^{-1}$ with the detection limit as 0.0426 ${\mu}mol\;L^{-1}$ ($3{\sigma}$).

We fabricated conductive zinc oxide (ZnO) thin film at low temperature by UV-enhanced atomic layer deposition. The atomic layer deposition relies on alternate pulsing of the precursor gases onto the substrate surface and subsequent chemisorption of the precursors. In this experiment, diethylzinc (DEZ) and $H_2O$ were used as precursors with UV light. The UV light was very effective to improve the conductivity of the ZnO thin film. The thickness, transparency and resistivity were investigated by ellisometry, UV-visible spectroscopy and Four-point probe.
