Electrochemical Characteristics of LiMnO2 for Lithium Secondary Battery

  • Well-defined orthorhombic $LiMnO_2\;and\;LiCo_{0.1}Mn_{0.9}O_2$ were synthesized by a solid-state reaction and quenching process. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results revealed that the as-synthesized powders showed an orthorhombic phase of a space group with Pmnm. The $Li/LiMnO_2\;and\;Li/LiCo_{0.1}Mn_{0.9}O_2$ cells were constituted and cycled galvanostatically in the voltage range of 2.0-4.3 V vs. $Li/Li^+$ at a current density of $0.5\;mA\;cm^{-2}$ at room temperature and $50^{\circ}C$, respectively. The results demonstrated that the highest specific capacity of $Li/LiMnO_2$ cells at room temperature and $50^{\circ}C$ was 95 and $155\;mAh\;g^{-1}$, respectively. As for $Li/LiCo_{0.1}Mn_{0.9}O_2$ cells, the highest specific capacity at room temperature and $50^{\circ}C$ was 160 and $250\;mAh\;g^{-l}$, respectively. It could be seen that the performance of $Li/LiCo_{0.1}Mn_{0.9}O_2$ cells was better than that of $Li/LiMnO_2$ cells.

  • The effects of MnO2 on the microstructure and dielectric properties of Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3 ceramics prepared by KCl-NaCl molten salt synthesis(MSS) method have been investigated. As the amount of MnO2 increased up to 0.25wt%, the density increased and the grain size decreased, while above 0.25wt%, the density decreased with the grain growth. Dielectric constant increased with increasing the amount of MnO2, and dielectric loss decreased up to 0.25wt% and then increased. This is due to the compensation effect by the substitution of Mn4+ to Fe3+ and the appearance of the second phase.

  • Electrical properties and microstructure were investigated on the effects of $MnO_2$ and the lead-free $(Na_{0.44}K_{0.52}Li_{0.04})(Nb_{0.83}Sb_{0.07}Ta_{0.1})O_3$ ceramics with the addition of $MnO_2$ were fabricated by a conventional mixed oxide method. A gradual change in the crystal and microstructure was observed with the increase of $MnO_2$ addition. For the NKN-LST-xmol%$MnO_2$ sintered at $1100^{\circ}C$, bulk density increased with the addition of $MnO_2$ and showed maximum value at addition 1.0mol% of $MnO_2$. Curie temperature of the NKN-LST ceramics slightly decreased with adding $MnO_2$. The dielectric constant, piezoelectric constant ($d_{33}$) and electromechanical coupling factor ($k_p$) increased below 0.25mol% of $MnO_2$ addition, which might be due to the increase in density. The high piezoelectric properties = 145 pC/N, electromechanical coupling factor = 0.421 and dielectric constant = 2883 were obtained for the NKN-LST-0.25mol%$MnO_2$ sintered at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 4h.

  • [ $0.96[Bio_{0.5}(Na_{0.84}K_{0.16})_{0.5}TiO_3]+0.04SrTiO_3+0.3wt%Nb_2O_5+0.2wt%La_2O_3+xwt%MnO_2$ ], were studied in order to develope the superior dielectric and piezoelectric properties of Lead-free Piezoelectric ceramics. With increasing amount of $MnO_2$ addition, density showed the maximum value of $5.79[gcm^3$] at 0.1wt% $MnO_2$ addition, and electromechanical coupling factor($k_p$) and dielectric constant decreased, and mechanical quality factor($Q_m$) increased and showed the maximum value of 161 at 0.3wt% $MnO_2$ addition.

  • 본 연구는 Mn/$TiO_2$ 촉매를 이용한 저온 $NH_3$-SCR 반응에서 산소의 역할에 대한 영향을 기술하였다. 촉매의 격자산소는 저온 SCR 반응에 참여하며, 기상의 산소는 환원된 촉매를 재산화 시키는 역할을 한다. 이러한 산소의 redox 특성은 SCR 반응활성에 중요한 요소로 작용하며, 격자산소의 이용능력은 표면에 노출된 망간의 산화상태에 큰 영향을 받는다. $TiO_2$ 담체 표면에 존재하는 Mn이 $MnO_2$의 망간산화물 형태로 존재할 때가 $Mn_2O_3$의 형태로 존재할 때보다 우수한 redox 특성을 가지며, 이러한 망간의 산화상태는 $TiO_2$의 비표면적에 큰 영향을 받는다.

  • In this study, microstructural and dielectric properties of $Pb_{0.83}(La_{0.2}Ce_{0.8})_{0.08}TiO_3$(PCT) ceramics as a function of $MnO_2$ addition were investigated for 30MHz ceramic resonator application. Grain size was gradually increased according to the increase of $MnO_2$ addition amount and showed the highest value of $1.502{\mu}m$ at the 0.9wt% $MnO_2$. Moreover, density showed the highest value of $7.582 g/cm^3$ at the 0.7wt% $MnO_2$.All the composition ceramics,curie temperature was nearly constant around $330^{\circ}C$

이산화망간 촉매와 오존을 이용한 NO의 촉매 산화 특성 (Catalytic Oxidation of NO on MnO2 in the Presence of Ozone)

  • In this study, the fundamental experiments were performed for catalytic oxidation of NO (50 ppm) on $MnO_2$ in the presence of ozone. The experiments were carried out at various catalytic temperatures ($30-120^{\circ}C$) and ozone concentrations (50-150 ppm) to investigate the behavior of NO oxidation. The honeycomb type $MnO_2$ catalyst was rectangular with a cell density of 300 cells per square inch. Due to $O_3$ injection, NO reacted with $O_3$ to form $NO_2$, which was adsorbed at the $MnO_2$ surface. The excessive ozone was decomposed to $O^*$ onto the $MnO_2$ catalyst bed, and then that $O^*$ was reacted with $NO_2$ to form $NO_3^-$. It was found that the optimal $O_3$/NO ratio for catalytic oxidation of NO on $MnO_2$ was 2.0, and the NO removal efficiency on $MnO_2$ was 83% at $30^{\circ}C$. As a result, NO was converted mainly to $NO_3^-$.

  • Change of dielectric loss of use in high relative permitivity capacitor BaTiO$_3$ ceramic depends on Mn doping have been investigated. The powders used in this study were commercial BaTiO$_3$, TiO$_2$and, MnCO$_3$. Sample was fabricated by conventional ceramic process. The quantity of Mn was changed gradually from 0.lmol% to 10mo1%. The sintering densities were reduced with increasing amount of MnCO$_3$. This result is because of increase of low density second phase BaMnO$_3$. When the samples were doped by over 0.2mol% of MnCO$_3$, average grain sizes were enlarge to several tens ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The dielectric losses were reduced by Mn doping to lmol% but, increased from lmol% to 10mo1% gradually.

  • Crystallized $LiMn_{2-y}Mg_{y}O_4$ powder was prepared by calcing the mixture of LiOH.$H_2O$, $MnO_2$ and MgO at $800^{\circ}C$ for 36h in an air atmosphere. The structure of $LiMn_{2-y}Mg_{y}O_4$ crystallites was analyzed from powder X-ray diffraction data as a cubic spinel, space group Fd3m. Though all cathode material showed spinel phase based on cubic phase in X-ray diffraction, other peaks gradually exhibited and became intense with increasing y value in $LiMn_{2-y}Mg_{y}O_4$. However, ununiform which calculated by (111) face and (222) face was constant in spite of the increase of y value, except pure $LiMn_2O_4$. AC impedance of Li/$LiMn_{2-y}Mg_{y}O_4$ cells revealed the similar resistance of about $70\Omega$ before cycling. In addition, The impedance of Li/$LiMn_{1.9}Mg_{0.1}O_4$ cell changed during charge and discharge or after cycling.

Crystallographic and Magnetic Properties of Co, Zn, Ni-Zn Substituted Nano-size Manganese Ferrites Synthesized by Sol-gel Method

  • Cobalt-, zinc-, and nickel-zinc-substituted nano-size manganese ferrite powders, $MnFe_2O_4$, $Mn_{0.8}Co_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$, $Mn_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$ and $Mn_{0.8}Ni_{0.1}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$, were fabricated using a sol-gel method, and their crystallographic and magnetic properties were subsequently studied. The $MnFe_2O_4$ ferrite powder annealed at temperatures above 523 K exhibited a spinel structure, and the particle size increased as the annealing temperature increased. All ferrites annealed at 773 K showed a single spinel structure, and the lattice constants and particle size decreased with the substitution of Co, Zn, and Ni-Zn. The $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectrum of the $MnFe_2O_4$ ferrite powder annealed at 523 K only showed a doublet due to its superparamagnetic phase, and the $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectra of the $MnFe_2O_4$, $Mn_{0.8}Co_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$, and $Mn_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$ ferrite powders annealed at 773 K could be fitted as the superposition of two Zeeman sextets due to the tetrahedral and octahedral sites of the $Fe^{3+}$ ions. However, the $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectrum of the $Mn_{0.8}Ni_{0.1}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ ferrite powder annealed at 773 K consisted of two Zeeman sextets and one quadrupole doublet due to its ferrimagnetic and paramagnetic behavior. The area ratio of the $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectra could be used to determine the cation distribution equation, and we also explained the variation in the $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ parameters by using this cation distribution equation, the superexchange interaction and the particle size. Relative to pure $MnFe_2O_4$, the saturation magnetizations and coercivities were larger in $Mn_{0.8}Co_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$ and smaller in $Mn_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$, and $Mn_{0.8}Ni_{0.1}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$. These variations could be explained using the site distribution equations, particle sizes and magnetic moments of the substituted ions.
