Effect of CuO Addition on the Microstructural and Electrical Properties of Ni-Mn Oxide NTC Thermistor (Ni-Mn 산화물 NTC 서미스터의 미세구조와 전기적 특성에 미치는 CuO 첨가의 효과)

  • In this study, $ Ni_{0.79}(Mn_{2.21-x}Cu_x)O_4$ (x=0~0.25) specimens were prepared by using a conventional mixed oxide method. All specimens were sintered in air at $1,200^{\circ}C$ for 12 h and cooled at a rate of $2^{\circ}C/min$ to $800^{\circ}C$, subsequently quenching to room temperature. We investigated the structural and electrical properties of $ Ni_{0.79}(Mn_{2.21-x}Cu_x)O_4$ specimens with variation of CuO amount for the application of NTC thermistors. As results of X-ray diffraction patterns, all specimens showed the formation of a complete solid solution with cubic spinel phase. The relationship between ln ${\rho}$ and the reciprocal of absolute temperature(1/T) for the NTC thermistors was shown linearity, which exhibited the typical NTC thermistor properties. With increasing the amount of CuO, resistivity at room temperature, B-value, and temperature coefficient resistance decreased.

Application of Ferrate(VI) to the Removal of Humic Acid and Heavy Metals (Cu, Mn, and Zn) (Humic Acid와 중금속(Cu, Mn, Zn)제거를 위한 Ferrate(VI)의 적용)

  • In this paper, we have performed an experimental study to simultaneously remove humic acid (RA) and heavy metals (Cu, Mn, and Zn) from the river water using potassium ferrate(VI), a multi-purpose and environment-friendly chemical. In the experiments for treating three 0.1 mM single heavy metals using 0.03${\sim}$0.7 mM (as Fe) ferrate, the removal efficiencies ranged 28${\sim}$99% for Cu, 22${\sim}$73% for Mn, and 18${\sim}$100% for Zn. In addition, humic acid and heavy metals could be very efficiently removed at the same time using 0.03${\sim}$0.7 mM (as Fe) ferrate: for example, 49${\sim}$81% (humic acid), 93${\sim}$100% (Cu), 22${\sim}$86% (Mn), and 20${\sim}$100% (Zn). The removal efficiencies of humic acid and heavy metals in the mixture of humic acid and heavy metals were higher than that in the solution of single humic acid or heavy metal. It can be explained by the fact that, before adding ferrate to the mixed solution, part of solutes were already removed by the complexation between the negatively-charged functional groups of humic acid and heavy metal cations.

Effects of Copper Addition on Damping Capacities, Atmospheric Corrosion and Mechanical Properties of Fe-17wt % Mn Alloy (Fe-17wt%Mn 합금의 진동감쇠능, 내후성 및 기계적 성질에 미치는 Cu 첨가의 영향)

  • We have reported that an Fe-17wt%Mn alloy exhibits the highest damping capacity in the Fe-Mn binary system. In the present work, the effects of copper content on the damping capacity, atmospheric corrosion and mechanical properties were studied. The damping capacities were measured at room temperature for the air cooled Fe-17wt%Mn alloy having copper content from 0.1wt% to 1.1wt%. The damping capacity of the Fe-17wt %Mn alloy was decreased with increasing copper content. However, the addition of Copper was found to improve mechanical properties and atmospheric corrosion resistance. These mechanical properties were attributed to the formation of stress-induced martensite during tensile test.

Effects of Alloying Elements on the High Pressure Wear Characteristics of Ductile Cast Iron I-Cu, Mn (구상흑연주철의 고압하 마멸특성에 미치는 합금원소의 영향 I-Cu, Mn)

  • High pressure wear characteristics of DCI(Ductile Cast Iron) were investigated through unlubricated pin-on-disc wear test. Wear test were carried out at speed of 23m/min, under pressure of 3MPa and 3.3 MPa. Cu and/or Mn were added to examine the effect of alloying elements on the high pressure wear characteristics of DCI. To investigate the relationship between wear characteristics and mechanical properties of DCI, Brinell hardness and V-notched Charpy impact energy were tested. Wear surface of each specimen was observed by SEM to determine the wear mechanism of DCI under high pressure wear condition. In the mild wear region, wear characteristics of alloyed DCI specimens were very similar to that of unalloyed DCI. But mild-severe wear transition was occurred at different wear distance and wear rate of DCI specimens were changed by alloying elements. In severe wear condition, wear rate of DCI was dramatically increased by the addition of Mn. Although the addition of Cu 0.46wt% did not decrease the wear rate of DCI in the severe wear region, but it delayed the mild-severe wear transition. Under high pressure wear condition, wear rate and mild-severe wear transition were not concerned with hardness of DCI specimens, but they were deeply associated with impact energy changed by alloying elements.

  • The catalytic performance of Co-Mn-Br system was performed in the 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene(DMN) oxidation at relatively mild reaction conditions such as $160^{\circ}C$ and $6kg/cm^2$. Experiments were conducted using a $2{\ell}$ batch reactor with varying the concentrations of catalysts. The reaction route of DMN oxidation was considered by measuring the concentration of intermediate species. As the intermediate species, 2-formyl-6-naphthoic acid, 2-methyl-6-naphthoic acid and 2-hydroxymethyl-6-methylnaphthalene are found. It was found that the yield of 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid(NDA) is largely dependent on the Co and Br concentrations. In addition, it was observed that color-b was closely related with Mn concentration in this experimental range. The burning loss of solvent could be reduced by controlling the concentration of Mn and Br. Addition of small amount of Ce and Cu compounds led to increase the NDA yields and decrease the burning amount of solvent.

Manufactures of dental casting Co-Cr-Mo based alloys in addition to Sn, Cu and analysis of infrared thermal image for melting process of its alloys (Sn 및 Cu를 첨가한 치과 주조용 Co-Cr-Mo계 합금제조 및 용해과정 분석)

  • Purpose: Dental casting #Gr I (Co-25Cr-5Mo-3Sn-1Mn-1Si), #Gr II (Co-25Cr-5Mo-5Cu-1Mn -1Si) and #Gr III (Co-25Cr-5Mo-3Sn-5Cu-1Mn-1Si) master alloys of granule type were manufactured the same as manufacturing processes for dental casting Ni-Cr and Co-Cr-Mo based alloys of ingot type. These alloys were analyzed melting processes with heating time of high frequency induction centrifugal casting machine using infrared thermal image analyzer. Methods: These alloys were manufactured such as; alloy design, the first master alloy manufatured using vacuum arc casting machine, melting metal setting in crucible, melting in VIM, pouring in the mold of bar type, cutting the gate and runner bar and polishing. These alloys were put about 30g/charge in the ceramic crucible of high frequency induction centrifugal casting machine and heat, Infrared thermal image analyzer indicated alloys in the crucible were set and operated. Results: The melting temperatures of these alloys measuring infrared thermal image analyzer were decreased in comparison with remanium$^{(R)}$ GM 800+, vera PDI$^{TM}$, Biosil$^{(R)}$ f, WISIL$^{(R)}$ M type V, Ticonium 2000 alloys of ingot type and vera PDS$^{TM}$(Aabadent, USA), Regalloy alloys of shot type. Conclusion: Co-Cr-Mo based alloy in addition to Sn(#Gr I alloy) were decreased the melting temperature with heating time of high frequency induction centrifugal casting machine using infrared thermal image analyzer.

Effect of La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 addition on superconducting properties and local structure of (Bi, Pb)-2223 superconductor

  • The effect of La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 (LSMO) addition on the superconducting property of Bi1.6Pb0.4Sr2Ca2Cu3O10+δ ((Bi, Pb)-2223) polycrystalline samples was studied. LSMO (0.3 wt.% to 2.0 wt.%) added (Bi, Pb)-2223 samples were prepared by using a solid-state reaction method. The XRD analyses show that as the LSMO addition increases, the volume fraction of the Bi-2223 phase is gradually decreased. The critical temperature (Tc) exhibits a gradual decrease with a single transition as the LSMO amount increases up to 1.0 wt.%, but a further addition of LSMO induces an abrupt decrease of Tc with a dual transition. The analyses on the local structure of the CuO2 plane from the X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) measurements showed that for the samples with low concentration of LSMO up to 1.0 wt.%, the Cu-O bond length and the CuO2 plane ordering do not degrade from the values of pure (Bi, Pb)-2223, while they get worsen with a further increase of LSMO addition. These results open up the possibility of LSMO as artificial pinning centers of the (Bi, Pb)-2223 system for power application.

Effect of Composition in Cu-Al-Mn Shape Memory Alloys on the Shape Memory Properties and Cold Workability (Cu-Al-Mn계 형상기억합금에서 조성이 형상기억특성 및 냉간가공성에 미치는 영향)

  • Cu-Al-Mn shape memory alloys of a variety of composition were characterized in terms of shape memory properties and cold workability. Cold workability tested by cold rolling indicated that the alloys solution treated in the ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ region have a higher ductility than those solution treated in the ${\beta}$ region. Also it is known that cold workability increased with the decrease in Al content in the ${\beta}$ region. This seems to be resulted from the fact that Mn addition causes to expand ${\beta}$ region toward lower Al content and lower order-disorder transition temperature, consequently, ${\beta}$ of excellent workability being frozen even at room temperature. Experimental results regarding shape memory showed that the properties were better with a higher Al contents at a given Mn content, which is closely related with martensitic transformation. It is also shown that super elasticity limit was enhanced with decrease in the yield strength of alloys because a lower yield strength seems to initiates slip at the lower applied stress.

  • A method was presented for the analysis of trace metals in iron oxide ore. The method utilized ammonium pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate (APDC)-methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) extraction procedure and analysis by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AA). Citrate at pH $8{\sim}10$ for the determination of Co, Ni and Cu or tiron at pH $6{\sim}7$for the determination of Mn and Cu was added as a masking agent to prevent extraction of Fe(III) into the organic phase. Reduction of solubility of MIBK in water was achieved by addition of NaCl as a salting-out agent. Back extraction of the MIBK extracts with aqueous $HNO_3$ was also studied to increase the stability of metal extracts.
