Two kinds of the ac-plasma display panel (PDP) with the comb type and the matrix type electrodes were fabricated. The discharge properties were studied as a function of as species (Ne and Ne+He+Xe) and its pressure. The firing voltages (Vf) of the PDP with comb type electrodes were 159 V and 195 V under pure Ne and ne+He+Xe(68:30:2) gas mixture respectively. In case of PDP cell with the matrix type electrodes the Vf was increased to 200 V for pure Ne and 240 V for Ne+He+Xe gas mixture under the same gas pressure(300 mbar).
Recently, it has been found that trifluoroiodomethane ( $CF_3I$) gas can replace $SF_6$ gas as a prospective substitute gas. For quantitative understanding of gas discharge phenomena, we should know electron collision cross sections and electron transport coefficients. Using electron collision cross sections of $CF_3I$ and Xe, we calculated elecron drift velocity, longitudinal coefficient, effective ionization coefficient in $CF_3I$-Xe mixtures using a two-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation. We also compared the electron transport coefficients in pure gas and those of 10%, 20%, 50%, and 70% $CF_3I$-Xe mixture gases. The present data may be showed appropriate ratios of $CF_3I$-Xe mixture gas for replacing the $SF_6$ gas.

We measured the electron drift velocity, W, in 0.5% $SF_{6}$-Ar mixture over the E/N range from 30 Td to 300 Td and gas pressure range from 0.1 to 8 Torr by the double shutter drift tube with a variable drift distance. This coefficient in the mixture was calculated over the same E/N and gas pressure range by using the two-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation. And the measured and calculated values at different gas number density at each E/N was appreciable dependence in the results on the gas number density,
Micro-electronic gas sensor devices were developed for the detection of carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), ammonia (NH3), and formaldehyde (HCHO), as well as binary mixed-gas systems. Four gas sensing materials for different target gases, Pd-SnO2 for CO, In2O3 for NOx, Ru-WO3 for NH3, and SnO2-ZnO for HCHO, were synthesized using a sol-gel method, and sensor devices were then fabricated using a micro sensor platform. The gas sensing behavior and sensor response to the gas mixture were examined for six mixed gas systems using the experimental data in MEMS gas sensor arrays in sole gases and their mixtures. The gas sensing behavior with the mixed gas system suggests that specific adsorption and selective activation of the adsorption sites might occur in gas mixtures, and allow selectivity for the adsorption of a particular gas. The careful pattern recognition of sensing data obtained by the sensor array made it possible to distinguish a gas species from a gas mixture and to measure its concentration.

The focus of this work is placed on the analysis of the mixture formation process under the evaporative diesel-free spray conditions. In order to examine homogeneity of mixture within the vapor phase region of the injected spray, image analysis was carried out based on the entropy of statistical thermodynamics. As an experimental parameter, the injection pressure and ambient gas density were selected, and effects of the injection pressure and density variation of ambient gas on the mixture formation process in the evaporative diesel spray were investigated. In the case of application of the thermodynamic entropy analysis to evaporative diesel spray, the value of the dimensionless entropy always increases with increase in time from injection start. Consequently, the dimensionless entropy in the case of the higher injection pressure is higher than that of lower injection pressure during initial injection period.

In this study, the transient responses of hydrogen sensor against abrupt hydrogen release was experimentally studied for three most common types of hydrogen sensors, i.e. the semiconductor type, electrochemical type, and catalytic combustion type. The experimental study was conducted using a 1% hydrogen - 99% nitrogen mixture gas as the standard gas, while the temperature and relative humidity (RH) of the mixture gas was varied from $25^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$ and from 50% to 100%, respectively. The temperature of the mixture gas was found to influence the output signal levels of hydrogen sensors, especially the catalytic combustion type. However, the effect of RH on the sensor response was not noticeable in the present experimental study. Thus, the signal levels of hydrogen sensors, in case of catalytic gas sensor need to be calibrated dependent on gas temperature, when the accurate determination of hydrogen concentration is important.
A mixed refrigerant cycle (MRC) has been widely used in liquefaction of natural gas because it is simple and easily operable with reasonable equipment costs. One of the important techniques in MRC is selection of a refrigerant mixture and decision of its optimum mixing ratio. In this work, it is examined whether mixture components (refrigerants) and their mixing ratio influence performance of general MRC processes. In doing this, mixture design and response surface method, which are well-known statistical techniques, are used to find optimal mixture refrigerants and their optimal mixing ratio that minimize total energy consumption of the entire liquefaction process. A MRC process using several refrigerants and various mixing ratios is simulated by Aspen HYSYS and mixture design and response surface method are implemented using Minitab. According to the results, methane ($C_1$), ethane ($C_2$), propane ($C_3$) and nitrogen ($N_2$) are selected as best mixture refrigerants and the determined mixture ratio (mole ration) can reduce total energy consumption by up to 50%.
Plasma nitrocarburizing treatment was performed for SCM 435 steel by using a plasma ion nitriding system. The effects of the variation of nitrogen and methan contents upon the hardened layer was investigated. Both the thickness of the compound layer and the amount of $\varepsilon$ phase in the compound layer increased with increasing nitrogen content. However, the thickness of the compound layer decreased due to unstable plasma for an atmosphere containing 90% $N_2$ gas content in the gas mixture. The amount of $\varepsilon$phase in the compound layer increased with increasing $CH_4$ gas content. For $CH_4$ gas content more than 2% in the gas mixture, the thickness of the compound layer decreased due to the formation of $\theta$ phase.

“Flameless combustion” of lean to ultra lean mixtures, supported by high-temperature burned gas, can resolve the dilemma between complete combustion versus ultra-low NOx emissions in gas turbine combustors. The characteristics of NOx emissions and combustion in “lean-lean” two-stage combustion were investigated for fuel vapor and droplets / air mixture jets injected from the main injection tube that was placed perpendicular to the combustor wall into the primary hot burned gas prepared by combustion of lean mixtures on a perforated flame holder. The present results clearly show that the ultra-low NOx combustion supported by the reaction of lean mixtures well mixed with the hot burned gas from the primary stage is much more advantageous in achieving ultra-low NOx emissions while maintaining high combustion efficiency.
The improvement of luminance and luminous efficiency is the one of the most important part in AC-PDPs. To achieve high luminance and luminous efficiency, high VUV emission efficiency is needed. We measured the emission spectra of vacuum ultraviolet(VUV) rays in surface discharge AC-PDP with binary and ternary gas mixtures of Ne-Xe and He-Ne-Xe. The influence of He-Ne-Xe gas-mixture ratio on excited $Xe^{\ast}$ resonant atoms and $Xe_2$$^{\ast}$ dimers has been investigated. It is found that luminous efficiency of ternary gas mixture, He-Ne-Xe, is shown to be much higher than that of binary gas mixture of Ne-Xe.
