  • The color mixture, obtained from Indigo and Japanese pagoda tree, was applied to cellulose fibers such as cotton, linen and rayon to diversify color gamut of natural dyes. The color mixture was tried with two different methods. The first process was that cellulose fibers were dyed with $5{\sim}25%$ owf Japanese pagoda tree solution, and then dyed 1 to 4 times with Indigo. The second process was dyeing 1 to 7 times with Indigo, followed by dyeing with $5{\sim}25%$ owf Japanese pagoda tree solution. K/S value of the dyed fibers with one colorant and color mixture increased in the order of linen, cotton, rayon. It was also found that the first process could give higher K/S values than the second process.

  • Interruption tests were conducted using the same circuit breaker for an initial pressure of SF6 0.5 MPa (gauge pressure) and CO2 mixture 1.0 MPa, 0.8 MPa, and 0.6 MPa. The pressure-rises in the compression and thermal expansion chambers were measured for verifying the computational results using a simplified synthetic test facility. Further, the possibility of the CO2 mixture substituting SF6 gas was confirmed. Moreover, in view of the thermal recovery capability, it has also been confirmed that the pressure of the CO2 mixture can be reduced almost to the same value as that of the SF6 gas by optimizing the design parameters of the interrupter.

  • Various single-valued design optimality criteria such as D-, G-, and V-optimality are used often in constructing optimal experimental designs for mixture experiments in a constrained region R where lower and upper bound constraints are imposed on the ingredients proportions. Even though they are optimal in the strict sense of particular optimality criterion used, it is known that their performance is unsatisfactory with respect to the prediction capability over a constrained region. (Vining et at., 1993; Khuri et at., 1999) We assume the quadratic polynomial model as the mixture response surface model and are interested in finding efficient designs in the constrained design space for a mixture. In this paper, we make an expanded list of candidate design points by adding interior points to the extreme vertices, edge midpoints, constrained face centroids and the overall centroid. Then, we want to propose a robust design with respect to D-optimality, G-optimality, V-optimality and distance-based U-optimality. Comparing scaled prediction variance quantile plots (SPVQP) of robust designs with that of recommended designs in Khuri et al. (1999) and Vining et al. (1993) in the well-known examples of a four-component fertilizer experiment as well as McLean and Anderson's Railroad Flare Experiment, robust designs turned out to be superior to those recommended designs.

  • The optimal recipe for manufacturing composite honey-based herbal pills mainly comprising Rubus coreanus powder (RCP), black mulberry powder (BMP), and vitamin C was investigated. Honey-based herbal pills were prepared by mixing these powders, binding them with honey, and then forming a round shape. The experiment was designed based on the D-optimal mixture design, which included 12 experimental points with one replicate for three independent variables as follows: RCP (10~35%), BMP (10~35%), and vitamin C (5~10%). In addition, the dependent variables (total phenolic and flavonoid content and antioxidant activity) were measured and used to optimize the manufacturing conditions. The results showed that high amounts of RCP were correlated with high total flavonoid content, whereas the addition of high amounts of vitamin C resulted in higher antioxidant activity. In conclusion, an optimized formulation for the honey-based herbal pill was found to contain 35% RCP, 10% BMP, and 10% vitamin C.

  • Quality design methodologies have received constituent attention from a number of researchers and practitioners for more than twenty years. Specially, the quality design for drug products must be carefully considered because of the hazards involved in the pharmaceutical industry. Conventional pharmaceutical formulation design problems with mixture experiments have been typically studied under the assumption of an unconstrained experimental region with a single quality characteristic. However, real-world pharmaceutical industrial situations have many physical limitations. We are often faced with multiple quality characteristics with constrained experimental regions. ln order to address these issues, the main objective of this paper is to propose a robust desirability function (RDF) model using a desirability function (DF) and mean square error (MSE) to simultaneously consider a number of multiple quality characteristics. This paper then present L-pseudocomponents and U-pseudocomponents to handle physical constraints. Finally, a numerical example shows that the proposed RDF can efficiently be applied to a pharmaceutical process design.

  • This study aims at analyzing the characteristics and the mode of deconstructionism expressed in fashion design centering on review of literatures and precedent researches. Through the review of previous studies and various articles, three major features with regard to deconstructionism were found: indeterminacy of meaning, decentralization, and inter -textuality. In fashion, the feature of indeterminacy of meaning expressed by non formula way such as unfinished, layering, obi or straight line cutting and it was divided into unstructured and unorganized factors. The feature of decentralization expressed by disorganization of sex, race, culture and humanism such as trans-gender, third world costume, sub-culture, posthumanism. Last, the feature of inter-textuality expressed by employing the fashion texts more than two simultaneously such as mixture of unmatched or unusual various clothing items, fabrics, patterns and styles. Non formality features in fahsion which divided into unstructured and unconstructed factors. The decentering of meaning means that disorganized the existing concepts of sex, race, culture and humanism features in fashion which divided into cross-gender, subculture, and post-humanism. Lastly, the feature of inter-textuality means that employed the fashion text more than two which is classified into factors of mixing mode and mixed styles. Unstructured factors were expressed by destroying the design principles such as balance, harmony and unit in fashion. Unconstructed factors were expressed by ignoring the basic costume structures and components in fashion. Cross-gender was expressed by manish and duality style in fashion and 3rd world costume was expressed by folk costume style. Anti fashion was expressed by anti aesthetics in fashion such as kitch, punk, and hippie styles. Post-human was expressed by futurism and the 4th Sex style in fashion. Mixing mode were expressed by mixture of item, and unmatched materials and pattern in fashion. Mixture of style were expressed by mixture of pastiche expression of various styles.

  • This study looks into the dyeing properties and functionality of cotton fabrics dyed in both the Spirodela polyrhiza extract and the extract resulting from the mixture of Salvia plebeia R. Br. and Spirodela polyrhiza. Since the UV-Vis Spectrum of the methanol extract of Spirodela polyrhiza shows absorption peaks at 256, 268nm, and 345nm, it can be inferred that the compound that Spirodela polyrhiza contains is a flavonoid. In addition, it can also be presumed that, by analyzing the infrared absorption spectrum of Spirodela polyrhiza, the plant contains flavonoid compounds, just like Salvia plebeia R. Br.. The UV protection factors of the cotton fabrics dyed in both the Spirodela polyrhiza extract and the extract from the mixture of Salvia plebeia R. Br. and Spirodela polyrhiza were 50+, presenting outstanding UV protection factors. The deodorization rate of the cotton dyed in the Spirodela polyrhiza extract was between 30 and 120 minutes, and the rate rose from 92% to 97% as time passed. The deodorization rate of the cotton dyed in the extract from the mixture of Salvia plebeia R. Br. and Spirodela polyrhiza increased from 88% to more than 91%. The result also revealed that overall the fastness of color, including color fastness to washing related to change in color, as well as the color fastness to light of the fabric dyed in the extract from the mixture of the two plants improved, compared to the cloth dyed only in Spirodela polyrhiza extract. Furthermore, the antibacterial activity was also strengthened.
