  • The minimum latency problem, also known as the traveling repairman problem and the deliveryman problem is to minimize the overall waiting times of customers, not to minimize their routing times. In this research, a genetic algorithm, a clonal selection algorithm and a population management genetic algorithm are introduced. The computational experiment shows the objective value of the clonal selection algorithm is the best among the three algorithms and the calculating time of the population management genetic algorithm is the best among the three algorithms.

  • As the need for security of SCADA systems is increasing, significant progress has been made in research on security of control protocol. However, very few security solutions were adapted to legacy SCADA system. The reasons for non-adoption are latency, cost and key management problem. We propose a low latency, economic security Solution to solve these issues. The proposed solution performs security function in data link layer and has minimum overhead to minimize latency. Furthermore, we try to solve the key management problem by providing systematic security keys and key distribution method.

  • Data aggregation is a fundamental problem in wireless sensor networks which attracts great attention in recent years. Delay and energy efficiencies are two crucial issues of designing a data aggregation scheme. In this paper, we propose a distributed, energy efficient algorithm for collecting data from all sensor nodes with the minimum latency called Delay-aware Power-efficient Data Aggregation algorithm (DPDA). The DPDA algorithm minimizes the latency in data collection process by building a time efficient data aggregation network structure. It also saves sensor energy by decreasing node transmission distances. Energy is also well-balanced between sensors to achieve acceptable network lifetime. From intensive experiments, the DPDA scheme could significantly decrease the data collection latency and obtain reasonable network lifetime compared with other approaches.

  • In P2P distribution mobile networks, QoS of streaming media services are under heavy influence from overheads such as congestion, latency, and interference. The problem is further complicated by the fact that the popularity of media objects changes over time. This paper proposes a new FSMS+ (Fuzzy Similarity-based Multi-level Streaming Scheme) which minimizes performance degradation of streaming services due to overhead. We then utilize fuzzy similarity-based relevance that can dynamically stream the streaming media object with minimum overhead. The simulation result showed that the proposed scheme has better performance in retransmission rate, congestion control rate and latency rate than the other existing methods of distance method, DC (disk caching) method, and prefix method.

  • The emerging energy harvesting technology, which has been successfully integrated into Wireless Sensor Networks, enables sensor batteries to be charged using renewable energy sources. In the meantime, the problem of Minimum Latency Aggregation Scheduling (MLAS) in battery-powered WSNs has been well studied. However, because sensors have limited energy harvesting capabilities, captured energy is limited and varies greatly between nodes. As a result, all previous MLAS algorithms are incompatible with Battery-Free Wireless Sensor Networks (BF-WSNs). We investigate the MLAS problem in BF-WSNs in this paper. To make the best use of the harvested energy, we build an aggregation tree that leverages the energy harvesting rates of the sensor nodes with an intuitive explanation. The aggregation tree, which determines sender-receiver pairs for data transmission, is one of the two important phases to obtain a low data aggregation latency in the BF-WSNs.

  • A VOD server, which is the central component for constructing VOD systems, requires to provide high bandwidth and continuous real-time delivery. It is also necessary to the sophisticated disk scheduling and data placement schemes in VOD sewers. One of the most common problem facing in such a system is the high initial latency time to service multiple users concurrently. In this paper, we propose a dynamic stream merging scheme for reducing the initial latency time in VOD servers. The proposed scheme allows clients to merge streams on a request as long as their requests fall within the reasonable time interval. The basic idea behind the dynamic stream merging is to merge multiple streams into one by increasing the frame rate of each stream. In the performance study, the proposed scheme can reduce the initial latency time under the minimum buffer use and also can enhance the performance of the VOD server with respect to the capacity of user admission.

  • According to general architecture of flight simulator made up of several independent rendering display systems, display synchronization problem between them naturally happens. In addition, since the flight simulator is usually implemented in the same networks where network delay is not big concern, it is necessary to consider different factors of existing synchronization technique. Among them, in this paper, we propose a new display synchronization scheme for flight simulator where each system has different rendering capacity. In the proposed scheme, each system is synchronized by considering maximum and minimum frames per second (FPS) while considering level of detail and latency. Also, experimental results are given to demonstrate the suitability of the proposed scheme for display synchronization scheme.

  • The software defined networks implement a software network control plane, which is physically separated from the data plane. For wide area software defined network deployments, multiple controllers are required, and the placement of these controllers influences importantly the performance of the software defined networks. This paper proposes a Tabu search algorithm, which is one of the meta heuristic algorithms, for an efficient controller placement in software defined networks. In order to efficiently obtain better results, we propose new neighborhood generating operations, which are called the neighbor position move and the neighbor number move, of the Tabu search algorithm. We evaluate the performances of the proposed algorithm through some experiments in terms of the minimum latency and the execution time of the proposed algorithm. The comparison results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the existing genetic algorithm and random method under various conditions.

  • The directory-based cache coherence scheme is an attractive approach to solve the caceh coherence problem in a large-scale shared-memory multiprocessor. However, the exsting directory-based schemes have some problens such as the enormous storage overhead for a directory, the long invalidation latency, the heavy network condes-tion, and the low scalability. For resolving these problems, we propose a new directroy- based caceh coherence scheme which is suitable for building scalable, shred-memory multiprocessors. In this scheme, each directory en-try ofr a given memory block is a number-balanced binaty tree(NBBT) stucture. The NBBT has several proper-ties to effciently maintain the directory for the cache consistency such that the shape is unique, the maximum depth is [log$_2$n], and the tree has the minimum number of leaf nodes among the binarry tree with n nodes. Therefore, this scheme can reduce the storage overhead, the network traffic, and the inbalidation latency and can ensutr the high- scalability the large-scale shared-memory multiprocessors.

  • In this paper, we study mobile data collector (MDC) based data-gathering schemes in wireless sensor networks. In Such networks, MDCs are used to collect data from the environment and transfer them to the sink. The majority of existing data-gathering schemes suffer from high data-gathering latency because they use only a single MDC. Although some schemes use multiple MDCs, they focus on maximizing network lifetime rather than minimizing packet delay. In order to address the limitations of existing schemes, this paper focuses on minimizing packet delay for given number of MDCs and minimizing the number of MDCs for a given delay bound of packets. To achieve the minimum packet delay and minimum number of MDCs, two optimization problems are formulated, and traveling distance and traveling time of MDCs are estimated. The interior-point algorithm is used to obtain the optimal solution for each optimization problem. Numerical results and analysis are presented to validate the proposed method.
