In the present study, the coupled dynamic response of a Submerged Floating Tunnel (SFT) and mooring lines under regular waves is solved by using two independent numerical simulation methods, OrcaFlex and CHARM3D, in time domain. Variations of Buoyancy to Weight Ratio (BWR), wave steepness/period, and water/submergence depth are considered as design and environmental parameters in the study. Two different mooring-line configurations, vertical and inclined, are studied to find an optimum design in terms of limiting tunnel motions and minimizing mooring-line tension. The numerical results are successfully validated by direct comparison against published experimental data. The results show that tunnel motions and tether tensions grow with wave height and period and decrease with submergence depth. The inclined mooring system is more effective in restricting tunnel motions compared to the vertical mooring system. Overall, the present study demonstrates the feasibility of this type of structure as an alternative to traditional bridges or under-seabed tunnels.

This paper presents a method to design a repetitive controller that is robust to variations in the system parameters. The uncertain parameters are specified probabilistically by their probability distribution functions. Instead of working with the distribution functions directly, the repetitive controller is designed from a set of models that are generated from the specified probability functions. With this multiple-model design approach, any number of uncertain parameters that follow any type of distribution functions can be treated. furthermore, the controller is derived by minimizing a frequency-domain based cost function that produces monotonic convergence of the tracking error as a function of repetition number. Numerical illustrations show how the proposed multiple-model design method produces a repetitive controller that is significantly more robust than an optimal repetitive controller designed from a single nominal model of the system.
To examine different types of influenza diagnostic test kits automatically, automated rapid influenza diagnostic test method based on image recognition is proposed in this paper. First, the proposed methods classify a variety of the rapid influenza diagnostic test kit based on support vector machine that analyzes the kits' feature point. Then, to improve the accuracy of test, the proposed methods match the histogram of both the target image of influenza kit and the input image of influenza kit for minimizing the effect of environment factors, such as lighting and exposure variations. And, to minimize the effect from composition of the hand-helds devices, the proposed methods extract the feature point and match point-by-point between target image of influenza kit and input image of influenza kit. Experimental results of 124 experimental group show that the proposed methods significantly have effectiveness, which shows 90% accuracy in moderate antigen, for the preliminary examination of influenza, and provides the opportunity for taking action against influenza.
Objectives : There are many secluded Chinese characters - so called Byeokja (僻字) in ancient classic literature, and Chinese characters that are not registered in Unicode and Variant characters (heterogeneous characters) that cannot be found in the current font sets often appear. In order to register all possible Chinese characters including such characters as units of information exchange, this study attempts to propose a method to encode the morphological information of Chinese characters according to certain rules. Methods : This study suggests the methods to encode the connection between the nodules constituting the Chinese character and the coordinates of the nodules. In addition to that, rules for expressing information about curves, expressions of aspect ratios of characters, rules for minimizing coordinate lines, and rules for expressing aggregation status of character components are added. Results : Through the proposed method, it is possible to generate codes of a certain length by extracting only information expressing the morphological configuration of characters. Conclusions : The method of character encoding proposed in this study can be used to distinguish variant characters with small variations in Byeokja, new Chinese characters and character strokes and to store and search them.

MV (Moving Vehicle) detection using satellite imagery is important for traffic monitoring and provides a wide range of observations. Specifically, MV detection methods utilizing the time lag in single-pass optical satellite images have been studied for detecting MVs from a single set of images. Because of limitations in detecting MVs outside of roads, most previous studies required road information to limit the moving object to cars on the road. However, it is difficult to obtain road information from inaccessible areas. Therefore, this study proposed a new method for detecting MVs regardless of their locations from single-pass optical satellite images without using additional data. WV-3 (Worldview-3) satellite images were used, and a spatial correlation coefficient map was proposed to detect spatial displacement which denotes MVs across two WV-3 MS images. Finally, evaluation was performed through quantitative metrics and visual inspection. The evaluation results revealed that the proposed method can detect MV movements from the single-pass satellite images. On the contrary, misdetected or undetected MVs due to radiometric differences between the images could be identified by visual inspection. The performance of the proposed method can be improved by minimizing radiometric variations and adding conditions that are robust to radiometric differences between the images.

Comprehensive understanding of the variations in the branching of the external carotid artery (ECA) is essential to minimizing vascular complications during cranio-facial and neck surgical procedures. We demonstrate a rare case of unusual branching of ECAs in both carotid triangles and anomalous origin of the left ascending pharyngeal artery (APA) during dissection of embalmed cadaver. The right and left common carotid arteries (CCA) bifurcated at the level of the upper border of the thyroid cartilage. The right superior thyroid artery (STA) originated anterior to the carotid bifurcation (CB), while the left STA originated from the anterior aspect of the left CCA. The right ECA trifurcated into linguofacial trunk, APA, and distal ECA, 15.7 mm from CB. On the left side, lingual artery and APA arose as a short common linguopharyngeal trunk, 1.9 mm from CB. The left facial and occipital arteries originated anteromedially and posteriorly at the same level.
The Hybrid Mass Damper (HMD) has proven effective in mitigating vibrations in high-rise structures subject to seismic and wind-induced excitations. One derivative configuration of the HMD mounts an Active Mass Damper (AMD) atop a Tuned Mass Damper (TMD). However, the control efficacy of such HMDs may be compromised when confronted with loads that exceed their design parameters. Additionally, the confined structural space within high-rise structures often limits the feasibility and economic viability of retrofitting HMD systems. This study introduces an Acceleration-based Fuzzy Power Approach Rate Sliding Mode Control (AFP-SMC) algorithm aimed at enhancing the control efficacy of HMDs while minimizing their stroke and force output requirements. Employing the Canton Tower as a research prototype, an analytical model incorporating HMDs was established, and a comparative analysis between the AFP-SMC and Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) control algorithms was conducted for efficacy. The control performance of the AFP-SMC control algorithm under different control parameter variations was investigated. Furthermore, by experimentally assessing the AMD subsystem within the Canton Tower, friction and ripple force formulas were derived to bolster the analytical model, thereby validating the robustness of the AFP-SMC algorithm. The results show that the proposed AFP-SMC algorithm effectively reduces the vibration response of the structure and the stroke and control force output of HMDs, and exhibits superior overall control performance and robustness compared to the LQG algorithm.

Although the Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectrophotometric Direct on Filter(FTIR-DOF) method is a useful analytical technique for quantifying quartz content in respirable dust samples, a number of analytical problems must be taken into consideration such as, to name only a few, inhomogeneous deposition of particles, level of environmental humidity, uneven surface of the filter, and interfering minerals in the sample. This study was designed to select the most suitable wavelength and proper filter material for the method, and to investigate effects of humidity and inhomogeneous deposition of particles on the filter. Samples of respirable dust, created in a dust chamber containing standard material of quartz, were collected using a cyclone equipped with a 25mm filter as a collection medium. The results were as follows; 1. Among seven (7) commercially available filters tested for the FTIR-DOF method, the DM 800 filter showed the best analytical performance having the lowest background absorbance bands and no overlapping peaks at 799, 779, and $695cm^{-1}$. 2. The variations of absorbance due to humidity ranged from 1.0% to 3.3% for $799cm^{-1}$, 1.0% to 3.3% for $779cm^{-1}$, and 8.9%~20.9% for $695cm^{-1}$ peaks, respectively. The $699cm^{-1}$ peak was proved to be most vulnerble to environmental humidity for quantitative analysis of quartz. 3. As for effects of inhomogeneous deposition of samples, the highest variation of absorbance of 10.9% ($13.5{\mu}g$) was observed when using the 695cm-1. The variations of absorbance from the other two peaks, 799 and $779cm^{-1}$, ranged from 1.2 to 3.2%, and 1.4 to 4.1%, respectively. Therefore, the $799cm^{-1}$ peak was considered to be most reliable for quantitative analysis of quartz. The results of this study suggest that, for quantitative analysis of quartz in the respirable dust samples, use of the $799cm^{-1}$ peak can minimize the influence of environmental humidity and inhomogeneous deposition of particles on the filter. The FTIR-DOF method, if adopted for routine analysis of quartz in the respirable dust samples, could save sample preparation time and efforts substantially and also could increase analytical throughputs. Since use of the $799cm^{-1}$ peak is prone to be affected by interferences in the sample, further research on minimizing the effects is needed.

To cope with the complex electromagnetic environment of wireless communication systems, anti-jamming decision methods are necessary to keep the reliability of communication. Basing on the rule-reduced genetic algorithm (RRGA), an anti-jamming decision method is proposed in this paper to adapt to the fast channel variations. Firstly, the reduced decision rules are obtained according to the rough set (RS) theory. Secondly, the randomly generated initial population of the genetic algorithm (GA) is screened and the individuals are preserved in accordance with the reduced decision rules. Finally, the initial population after screening is utilized in the genetic algorithm to optimize the communication parameters. In order to remove the dependency on the weights, this paper deploys an anti-jamming decision objective function, which aims at maximizing the normalized transmission rate under the constraints of minimizing the normalized transmitting power with the pre-defined bit error rate (BER). Simulations are carried out to verify the performance of both the traditional genetic algorithm and the adaptive genetic algorithm. Simulation results show that the convergence rates of the two algorithms increase significantly thanks to the initial population determined by the reduced-rules, without losing the accuracy of the decision-making. Meanwhile, the weight-independent objective function makes the algorithm more practical than the traditional methods.

Automation of greenhouses has proved to be extremely helpful in maximizing crop yields and minimizing labor costs. The optimum conditions for cultivating plants are regularly maintained by the use of programmed sensors and actuators with constant monitoring of the system. In this paper, we have designed a prototype of a smart greenhouse using Arduino microcontroller, simple yet improved in feedbacks and algorithms. Only three important microclimatic parameters namely moisture level, temperature and light are taken into consideration for the design of the system. Signals acquired from the sensors are first isolated and filtered to reduce noise before it is processed by Arduino. With the help of LabVIEW program, Time domain analysis and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) of the acquired signals are done to analyze the waveform. Especially, for smoothing the outlying data digitally, Moving average algorithm is designed. With the implement of this algorithm, variations in the sensed data which could occur from rapidly changing environment or imprecise sensors, could be largely smoothed and stable output could be created. Also, actuators are controlled with constant feedbacks to ensure desired conditions are always met. Lastly, data is constantly acquired by the use of Data Acquisition Hardware and can be viewed through PC or Smart devices for monitoring purposes.
