  • This research examines the impact of teachers' self-evaluation on their classroom interactions with students. Changes in class behavior were analyzed by following two experienced middle school teachers for one semester of self-evaluation, comparing their classes at the beginning and end of the semester. A qualitative research method was adopted to take, a deeper look at the effect of changes in the teachers' in class actions. Both of the teachers reported positive effects of implementing self-evaluation on their teaching pedagogy, focusing specifically on their interactions with students when asking question and giving feedback. By the end of semester, they were asking broader questions that encouraged their students to engage in deeper thought and, when giving feedback, the class atmosphere was much brighter with better communication due to the positive reinforcement provided. This research supports research into ways to enhance teachers' expertise and improve their teaching via self-evaluation, centering on teachers' actions in the classroom.

  • This study is to understand the situations of special education classroom layout, find differences according to school levels and summarize the findings in order to build up the indicators for special classroom layout. As for elementary school level, special classrooms are using multi-purposes desk or group desk for diverse activities such as basic learning and formation of basic life practice. The most frequent type in classroom layout is Type E which is for diverse coner-learning and play activities and the next is Type C which secures activity space. Because security of dynamic activity which most teachers find problematic is important, it needs more research to secure dynamic activity space within classroom. As for middle school level, the most frequent type in classroom layout is Type B which is equiped for computer aided learning and the next is Type C which secures activity space. Research for systematic layout of activity space is needed in order to secure the spaces of dynamic activity and basic job training. As for high school levels, mostly Type B which emphasizes computer activities is adopted and next is Type F which is capable for job training. The survey about the size of special education classroom proves that most teachers want one and half size classroom which in not such a large classroom. It is expected that more systematic research of special classroom layout according to school levels may reach for rational space layout.

  • The equalization policy needs various factors-standardization of educational environment, standardization of learning method, standardization of teacher ability, etc. Especially the standardization of educational environment is the base of various factors. But the recent educational environment condition of high school is not equal. The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for equal learning environment condition in high school applying departmentalized classroom system. This study has progressed through analyzing on 9 remodelling case of high school in Gangwon-Do. The method of this study is visiting high schools that operate the system, grasping the condition for environment composition, and investigating and analyzing practical use of the environment. The results of this study are summarized as follows: 1) The space compositions for departmentalized classroom system are generally desirable, but some schools take irrational space composition, especially on home base-teacher laboratory, classroom-teacher laboratory. 2) The space area distributions are different in every school. This result is based on not taking standard criterion on space area distribution.

  • Middle school students' conceptual changes on physics, chemistry, biology and earth science concepts which were intentionally selected by researchers had been investigated through traditional teaching and learning by paper and pencil tests and P.O.E. The weak points had been studied by individual interviews about the problems of traditional science classroom teaching after students' testing and learning about science concepts. As results, students' conceptual changes could be hardly found through traditional teaching and learning except several concepts in biology, The weak points of traditional science classroom teaching and learning were as follows: 1) Teachers teach science as finding answers. 2) The conventional science test is not performed to find students' concepts out but to recall simple knowledge or calculus. 3) Students hesitate to ask teacher Questions in science class because of their colleagues' or teachers' blame. These mean that science teachers need specially designed teaching methods on the students' concepts and reseachers had to study about science classroom socialogy, what happened in science classrooms.

  • This study examines the longitudinal effect of goal perception, mathematics class factors(perceptions about mathematics teachers (PMT), mathematics classroom attitude), and mathematics academic achievement. This study consists of three research models. First, we examined the longitudinal change of goal perception, perceptions about mathematics teachers (PMT), mathematics classroom attitude, and mathematics academic achievement using latent growth curve modeling. Secondly, the slope of PMT is a critical mediator between the slope of goal perception and the slope of mathematics academic achievement. Finally, the slope of mathematics classroom attitude is a critical mediator between the slope of goal perception and the slope of mathematics academic achievement. Data were extracted from Seoul Education Longitudinal Study from 2010 to 2012 (in three waves), and the analysis used by middle school students, measured by 4163 students of the three-wave surveys. Latent growth modeling was applied to verify the research problems. The results of the research are as follows. First, the slope of goal perception had positive and significant effects on the slope of PMT and mathematics classroom attitude, respectively. Second, the slope of PMT and mathematics classroom attitude had positively significant effects on the slope of mathematics academic achievement. Finally, it was confirmed that the slopes of PMT and mathematics classroom attitude are critical mediators between the slope of goal perception and the slope of mathematics academic achievement.

  • This study deals with the postmodern perspectives in mathematics classroom. Today, mathematics and mathematics education can be explored through postmodernism because they have very different practices, pluralism, and anti-authoritarianism. Thus practices and researches of mathematics classroom are coherent to postmodern perspectives such as situated theory, anthropological approach, and interactionism. In these socio-cultural views, learners' milieu and participation, language of classroom activities, and culture of mathematics classroom are considered very important. Therefore, it is required that both mathematics educators and researchers make a change toward postmodernism in attitude and subject of mathematics classroom research.

  • The purposes of this study were to examine the middle school science textbooks published according to the 7th curriculum by analyzing overall structure of the books and STS contents, and to diagnose the current status of STS education in science classroom through interviews with teachers and students of the middle schools. It was found that STS approaches were of increasing importance in the science textbooks, however, they were not popular in the science classes. STS topics in the middle school textbooks were related mostly to 'applications of science' and 'social problems and issues', and few of the topics were related to 'cooperative work on real problems', 'multiple dimensions of science' and 'practice with decision making strategies'. Major barriers of STS education implementation in middle school science classroom were identified as follows; difficulties of assessment, teachers' insufficient cognitions and experiences regarding STS education, perceptions of students and parents that prefer didactic lecture methods and working on exercises. Desirable directions for the improvement of present status of STS education in middle school science classes were proposed.
