  • Red dusty Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) are suspected to mid-stage between ULIRG and AGN phase. As well as, they are suspected that they have more than 50% of AGN population. To understand character of red AGN, Black Hole (BH) mass of red AGN is a key property and haven't measured by existing method such as reverberation mapping and single epoch method. So we still don't know their character and properties clearly. To estimate properties of red AGNs escape from effect of dust-obscuration, we have obtained Near InfraRed (NIR) spectra of 31 reverberation mapped AGNs and 49 Palomar-Green(PG) Quasi-Stellar Object (QSO) using the infrared camera (IRC) for AKARI with unique wavelength range 2.5-$5.0{\mu}m$. From this spectra, we measured the FWHM and luminosity of brackett ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$ at 4.0, 2.6 micron meter for deriving new BH mass estimators based on the properties of Brackett line emission.

  • We present high-resolution near infrared (IR) spectra of two candidate planetary nebulae (PNe) that were serendipitously found toward the Galactic center (GC). Our spectra obtained using GNIRS on Gemini North reveal strong Br ♑ and He I recombination lines. In one of the targets, we confidently detect Pa ♌ emission. Based on Br ♑ and Pa ♌ lines, we estimate a foreground reddening to be Av=27 mag, which confidently puts this object at the GC distance. Along with the presence of highly excited emission lines such as [S IV], [Ne III], [Ne V], and [O IV] detected in the mid-IR spectra from the Spitzer Space Telescope, and the extended emission in the Pa ♋ narrow-band image from the Hubble Space Telescope, this makes it the first spectroscopically confirmed PN in the GC.

  • A theoretical self-consistent thermoelectric model has been developed for optimal thermal design in the self-signal processing infraed detectors. The model is achived by employing the coupled thermoelectric equation which allows which allows the simultaneous investigation of the termal and electrical aspects of device behavior. The thermal limitation of detectivity and responsivity are determined by the enegy gap, carrier concentration, lifetime, and mobility as a function of the temperature. The calculated results indicate that the detectivity is decreased at bias fields above about 50 V/cm, because the performence is limiting by temperature when the bias voltage reached the level associated with Joule heating. It has been also found that the improvement in the mid-band modulation transfer function(MTF) may be restricted by increasing the bias fields. Further, the important paramerers in the thermal optimization of SPIR detector, such as temperature in the device, ambipolar velocity, element thickness and length, are also considered. The analytical study provides a mathematical basis for optimal design of such a photoconductive IR detector and the agreement between the experimental and theoretical results are seen to be good.

  • In this study, it was studies the utilization of LIT(lock-in infrared thermography) which can detect defects in welded parts of ship and offshore structures. Quantitative analysis was used through methods of filtering and texture measurement of image processing techniques to find the optimized experimental condition. We verified reliability in our methods by applying image processing techniques in order to normalize evaluations of comparative images that show phase difference. In addition, low to mid exposure showed good results whereas high exposure did not provide significant results in regards to intensity of light exposure on surface. Lock-in frequency was satisfactory around 0.1 Hz regardless of intensity of light source we had. In addition, having the integration time of thermography camera inversely proportional to intensity of exposed light source during the experiment allowed good outcome of results.

  • The luminescence and excitation spectra of [Cr(trans-diammac)](ClO4)3 (trans-diammac=trans-6, 3-dimethyl-l, 4, 8, 11-tetraazacyclotetradecane-6, 13-diamine) taken at 77 K are reported. The mid and far-infrared spectra at room-temperature are also measured between 4000 cm-1and 50 cm-1. In the excitation spectrum the 2Eg components are splitted by 102 cm-1. Using the observed electronic transitions, a ligand field analysis was performed to determine more detailed bonding properties of the coordinated atoms toward chromium(Ⅲ). According to the results, we can confirm that the six nitrogen atoms have a strong σ-donor character, and the trans-diammac secondary amine has a greater value of eσ than does the primary amine.

  • InSb (III-V compound semiconductor) is used for photodiode to detect the mid-wavelength infrared radiation. Generally the quantum efficiency of InSb IR FPAs(Focal Plane Arrays) is known to be determined by thickness of InSb and transmittance of anti-reflection coating layer. In this study, we confirmed that the C-V characteristics of detector array affects the quantum efficiency of the InSb IR FPAs. We fabricated the IR FPAs with various $V_{fb}$(flat band voltage) values and confirmed the tendency between the $V_{fb}$ value and quantum efficiency of the IR FPAs.

  • The shape of a galaxy's spectral energy distribution ranging from ultraviolet (UV) to infrared (IR) wavelengths provides crucial information about the underlying stellar populations, metal contents, and star-formation history. Therefore, analysis of the SED is the main means through which astronomers study distant galaxies. However, interstellar dust absorbs and scatters UV and optical light, re-emitting the absorbed energy in the mid-IR and Far-IR. I present the updated 3D Monte-Carlo radaitive transfer code MoCafe to compute the radiative transfer of stellar, dust emission through a dusty medium. The code calculates the emission expected from dust not only in pure thermal equilibrium state but also in non-thermal equilibrium state. The stochastic heating of very small dust grains and/or PAHs is calculated by solving the transition probability matrix equation between different vibrational, internal energy states. The calculation of stochastic heating is computationally expensive. A pilot study of radiative transfer models of SEDs in clumpy (turbulent), galactic environments, which has been successfully used to understand the Calzetti attenuation curves in Seon & Draine (2016), is also presented.

  • MBM 110 is one of the molecular clouds at high Galactic latitude discovered by Magnani et al., and is one of a dozen cometary clouds in the Orion-Eridanus superbubble. We have conducted optical photometry and spectroscopy for a comprehensive study of the region. Recently released Gaia DR2 astrometric data as well as WISE mid-infrared data were used for the complete census of member stars. We select 17 member stars with $H{\alpha}$ emission and/or Li absorption. The total mass of stars in the region is only about $16M{\odot}$. We found that the star formation efficiency in the region is less than 5%. We discuss the origin of the cloud and the star formation history in MBM 110.

  • We present preliminary results of our long-term (2009-2017) observing campaign using the NASA IRTF at Mauna Kea, to obtain $2-5{\mu}m$ spectroscopy of ~200 red point sources in the line of sight to the Galactic center. Point sources in our sample were selected from the mid-infrared images of the Spitzer Space telescope, and include candidate massive young stellar objects, which have previously been identified from our Spitzer/IRS spectroscopy. We show high foreground extinction of these sources from deep $3.1{\mu}m$ H2O ice and aliphatic hydrocarbon absorption features, suggesting that they are likely located in the central 300 pc region of the Galactic center. While many sources reveal photospheric $2.3{\mu}m$ gas CO absorption, few of them clearly indicate $3.54{\mu}m$ CH3OH ice absorption, possibly indicating a large dust column density intrinsic to a massive young stellar object.
