This study was carried out to investigate whether acute toxicity of BST-SR is or not. Single dose of BST-SR was given to both sexes of Spraqe-Dawley rats and ICR mice, subcutaneously. No significant toxic symptom was observed in single treated rats and mice during the experimental period. In gross and microscopic observation, no significantly different abnormality observed between the several organs of tested animals and control animals. Therefore, it was concluded that BST-SR was nontoxic when BST-SR was subcutaneously administered to rats and mice up to 1000 times of clinical dose.
The longitudinal magnetooptical Kerr effect was used to analyse magnetic domains in soft magnetic ${(Fe_{97}A1_3)}_{85}N_{15}$/$Al_{2}O_{3}$ multilayers in order to get microscopic understanding of interlayer exchange coupling. The measuring system consists of a Kerr microscope, a CCIR camera (with an 8-bit framegrabber), 16 bit digital camera and computer system for real-time image processing and to control external magnetic field and cameras. The strength of ferromagnetic (EM) coupling as a function of the spacer thickness of $Al_2O_3$ was investigated. It was found that strong FM-coupling, strong uniaxial anisotropy and coherent rotation of the magnetization have been observed for the spacer thickness in the range of 0.2 nm $\leq$ t $\leq$ 1 m, however, weak FM-coupling, patch domains and $360^{\circ}$-walls occur for the spacer thickness of t = 2.5 nm. At a spacer thickness of t $\geq$ 5 nm transition takes place from weak FM-coupling to the decoupled state where complex interlayer interactions and different types of the domain walls were observed.

Metal matrix composites(MMCs) have been rapidly becoming one of the strongest candidates for structural materials fur many high temperature application. However, among the various high temperature environments in which metal matrix composites was applied, thermal shock is known to cause significant degradation in most MMC system. Due to the appreciable difference in coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) between reinforcement and metal matrix, internal stresses are generated following temperature changes. Infernal stresses affect degradation of mechanical properties of MMC by causing microscopic damage in interface and matrix during thermal cycling. Therefore, the nondestructive evaluation on thermal shock damage behavior of SiC/A16061 composite has been carried out using ultrasonics. For this study, SiC fiber reinforced metal matrix composite specimens fabricated by a squeeze casting technique were thermally cycled in the temperature range 298$\~$673 K up to 1000cyc1es. Three point bending test was conducted to investigate the efffct of thermal shock damage on mechanical properties. The relationship between thermal shock damage behavior and the propagation characteristics of surface wave and SH-ultrasonic wave was discussed by considering the result of SEM observation of fracture surface.

In order to develop a pediatric liquid preparation with sustained release properties, dextromethorphan hydrobromide (DEXT) was complexed with strong cation exchange resin (CG 120) and the-complex was coated with Eudragit RS using a phase separation method by non-solvent addition. The effect of pH, ionic strength of the release medium and drug/resin ratio on the release rate of DEXT was studied. The release rate of free drug from the uncoated complex, and coated complexes with 9.5 and 18.5% Eudragit RS in artificial gastric juice were measured. The release rate from the uncoated complex was faster with higher pH, higher ionic strength of the release medium and higher drug/resin ratio. The release rate from the coated complex could be controlled by the amount of coating material, and the surface after release did not rupture into.
The purpose of this study lies in analyzing the characteristics of the carbonized textile fabrics and to know the carbonizing mechanism. Samples were Jiyo excavated from the grave of Mrs. Hansan Lee as the wife of Jinju Kang at Daeduk-gu, Daejon, and black fragements assumed as of the outside material of cotton skirt and black dusts collected out of Jikryung for official dress. The composition and status of the fiber were clarified by means of Microscopic FT-IR and both cross sectioanl and side parts of the fiber were observed using the technique of scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Finally EDS analysis was carried out to qualitatively analyze inorganic ingredients contained in the carbonized fiber. As a result of FT-IR measurement, characteristic peak was very strong around $1625cm^{-1}$ and could be found even between 2500 and $2300cm^{-1}$ because of a high-molecule pigmental substance, melanine. When SEM photography was applied to the fractions, the tissues were identified as silk fiborine through the observation of their side and cross sectional parts. SEM-EDS measurement indicated that both the cotton skirt and Jikryung for official dress contained a high proportion of inorganic substances such as Si, Ca suggesting the existence of silicide and calcium carbonate.

The effect of organic additives, 1-(3-sulfoproyl)-2-vinylpyridineium hydroxide (SVH) and thiourea (TU), on the precision copper electrodeposition was investigated with optical, electrochemical and x-ray diffraction techniques. It was found that SVH played a r ole as a n accelerator and TU as an i nhibitor during the electroreduction of cupric ions in acidic Cu electroplating solution. Through electrochemical measurements, TU showed more strong interaction with cupric ions than SVH and dominated overall Cu electroplating process when both additives were present in the solution. In the case of three dimensional Cu electrodeposition on the 20 ${\mu}m$-patterned Ni substrates, SVH controlled the upright growth of Cu electrodeposits and so determined its flatness, while TU prohibited the lateral spreading of Cu in the course of pulse-reverse pulse current adaptation. With microscopic observation, we obtained the optimum organic additives composition, that is, 100 ppm SVH and 200 ppm TU during the current pulsation.
The thickness ranges and conditions to form the supersaturated solid solution in Al-Cr alloys were investigated with various rapid solidification conditions. Al-Cr alloys, rapidly solidified by using the small droplet chill quenching method, were examined by means of micro-vickers hardness, lattice parameter, thermal analysis and microscopic observation. The results obtained were as follows; 1. With the increase of solidification rate, the solidified structures were changed to intermetallic compound + solid solution, incompletely supersaturated solid solution, completely supersaturated solid solution, in turn. 2. The minimum solidification rate required to form completely supersaturated solid solution was $2.5{\times}10^{-2}cm/sec$, $3.6{\times}10^{-2}cm/sec$ and $6.0{\times}10^{-2}cm/sec$ for Al-1.0wt%Cr, Al-1,2wt%Cr and Al-1.5wt%Cr, respectively. 3. The maximum distance from the chill surface required to form completely supersaturated solid solution was 5mm, 1.3mm and 0.3mm for Al-1.0wt%Cr, Al-1.2wt%Cr and Al-1.5wt% Cr, respectively.

Mycoplasma pneumoniae strain CL-s attached to broth-covered surfaces was examined sequentially during growth from single cells for morphologic and ultrastructural changes using several different electron microscopic techniques. Changes in morphology revealed both round and spindle shapes and observation of cell transitions suggested some type of morphological cycle. The round to-ovoid cells observed in the early stages of growth appeared to be viable, and morphologically and ultrastructurally different from the spherical fors which were produced during the latter stage of growth. The spindle segments were detected appeared to be structurally the same as the terminal cored structure seen in thin sections and may be a growing point or an attachment site of the cell. A tubular structure was observed in the core of the terminal structure and a microtubule-like element appeared to bridge between some spindle segments. A matrix sunstance was observed around single cells as well in the intercellular space of the colonies prepared by critical point metrical triple-layered cytoplasmic mermbranes, surfaces, of which appeared to be structurally different each other, were observed in young cells, whereas symmetrical and thicker membranes were seen in older cells. Small bodies were found in 4d or older cultures and did not appear to contain any internal structures or an easily detectable unit membrane.
This paper presents the mechanical properties of a composite consisting of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) resin mixed with carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) pieces (CFRP/ABS). CFRP pieces made by crushing CFRP wastes were utilized in this material. Nine kinds of CFRP/ABS compounds with different weight fraction and size of CFRP pieces were prepared. Firstly, tensile and flexural tests were performed for the specimens with various CFRP content. Next, fracture surfaces of the specimens were microscopically observed to investigate fracture behavior and fiber/resin interface. Finally, the tensile modulus and strength were discussed based on the macromechanical model. It is found that the elastic modulus increases linearly with increasing CFRP content while the strength changes nonlinearly. Microscopic observation revealed that most carbon fibers are separated individually and dispersed homogeneously in ABS resin. Epoxy resin particles originally from CFRP are dispersed in ABS resin and seem to be in good contact with surrounding resin. The modulus and strength can be expressed using a macromechanical model taking account of fiber orientation, length and interfacial bonding in short fiber composites.
This study was carried out to investigate the antimicrobial and antioxidative activities of Camellia japonica extracts for cosmetic applications. Antimicrobial effects of C. japonica were determined against Bacillus cereus by methanol extract of new leaf, stem and stem-leaf; Malassezia pachydermatis, by methanol extract of new leaf and stem-leaf. A methanol extract of new leaf of C. japonica showed strong antimicrobial effect using paper disc method against most species especially in Staphylococcus aureus. Antioxidative activities of C. japonica seed oils were determined by DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities. The value of $EC_{50}$ of DPPH scavenging activity was 500 mg/mL and that of ABTS scavenging activity was 96.10 mg/mL. C. japonica oil extracts showed lower antioxidative activities than those of gallic acid and ${\alpha}$-tocopherol. Electron microscopic observation of damaged virgin hairs of different ages gave a stabilizing effects after C. japonica seed oil treatment. These results indicated that the extracts of stem, leaf and seed of C. japonica could be used as cosmetic ingredient combined with appropriate formula.
