  • M type hexa-ferrites were prepared by means of a solid state reaction using mill scale, $Fe_{2}O_{3}$, and the mixture of mill scale and $Fe_{2}O_{3}$. The mixture of powders were calcined at $1150^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs. and sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs, with varing the mole ratio of $Fe_{2}O_{3}$/$BaCO_{3}$, by 5.2~6.0. And the magnetic properties and morphologies of Baferrites with impurities such as $SiO_{2},\;Al_{2}O_{3},\;MgO,\;CaO\;and\;Na_{2}O$ in the mill scale were investigated. The magnetic properties were worsened by the addition of $Na_{2}O because of non-reacted iron oxide and intermediate compound of $BaFe_{2}O_{4}$ but they were improved apparently by the addition of $Si_{2}$ and $Al_{2}O_{3}$ in the composition of $BaO.5.6Fe_{2}O_{3}$. Moreover, $M_{s}$ decreased but $_{B}H_{C}$ increased through the addition of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ in Ba-ferrite. ${(BH)}_{max}$ of sintered BM($BaCO_{3}$, mill scale mixture) and BFM($BaCO_{3}$, $Fe_{2}O_{3}$, and null scale mixture) were 0.86 and 1.04 MGOe, respectively, and the magnetic properties were changed around $440^{\circ}C$.

  • The ferromagnetic resonance properties of Mg ferrites which have various porosity grain size, and saturation magnetization are measured at one frequency. This allows a determination of the anisotropy field(Ha). The saturation magnetization multiplied by porosity is the resonance magnetic field. As the saturation magnetization increases, the linewidth decerases due to decrement of magnetic inhomogenity in sample. the porosity is a major factor broadening the linewidth for Mg ferrite when porosity is more thatn 6%, and the anisotropy field is dominant when porosity is less than 6%.

  • $Ba_2Mg_{0.5}Co_{1.5}(Fe_{0.99}In_{0.01})_{12}O_{22}$ was prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction method, and studied by x-ray diffractometer, vibrating sample magnetometer, and Mossbauer spectrometer. The crystal structure was determined to be a single-phased rhombohedral with space group R-3m. Magnetization value were $M_s$ = 28.6 emu/g at 295 K. The hysteresis loops indicate that all the samples are ferrimagnetic behaviors. Mossbauer spectra of $Ba_2Mg_{0.5}Co_{1.5}(Fe_{0.99}In_{0.01})_{12}O_{22}$ have been 6-sextet taken at various temperatures ranging from 4.2 to 620 K. Based on the isomer shift (${\delta}$) values of all samples, the charge states were found to be $Fe^{3+}$ state at all temperatures, the Curie temperature was determined to be 630 K by the ZVC curve.

  • Sample size effect on ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) in polycrystalline MgFe2O4 has been investigated. The signal intensity (SI), resonance field (Hres) and line width (ΔH) were found to increase proportionally to r3 with the increase of sample radius. The r3-depencence of SI means the complete penetration of rf-field into the sample, and the broadening of ΔH due to the sample size appears to be closely related to the amount of scattering sources like pores. Meanwhile, the values of Hres (0) and ΔH (0) obtained by extrapolating the data of Hres (r) and ΔH (r) measured at several sizes to r=0, were in good agreement with those calculated using the Schlomann's equations for internal field and ΔH, respectively. This result indicates that the discrepancy between the measured FMR parameters and those calculated by Schlomann's equation could be ascribed to the effect of sample size. Thus it is suggested that the size effect on FMR should be removed for the analysis of the FMR parameters. Meanwhile, our result for the size dependance of ΔH was found to be contradictory to those reported by Dionne, where ΔH 1/r at a given surface roughness. This discrepancy appears to arise from the difference in the definition of reading the line width.

  • It is very important to obtain gray and ductile cast irons with completely pearlitic structure by addition more economical alloying elements. In this study, 9 melts of gray iron and 5 melts of Mg-treated ductile cast iron were made according to Sb content (0-0.08% Sb). Each melt were casted to ${\phi}20mm$ test bars in sand mold under the same condition and inspected microstructure, mechanical and thermal properties. The results obtained from this study are as follows: 1. It is confirmed that Sb should be an economical, simple and useful additive for avoiding ferrite in gray and even in ductile cast irons. 2. For gray cast iron, the recommended ladle addition of metallic Sb amounts to 0.05%. At these levels, Sb has no detrimental influence on the mechanical properties of gray cast irons, which are normally modified according to their pearlite content without increasing the chilling tendency. 3. Despite its adverse influence on graphite shape in ductile iron, Sb can be used as a pearlite stabilizing alloying element even in the case of Mg - treated iron. The quantity to be added does not exceed 0.04% in the case of thinwalled castings. 4. The nodule count is increased very much and the shape of graphite particles become remarkably spheroidal. The matrix may be fully pearlitized, except for thin - walled castings, because the high nodule count results inevitably in some ferrite. 5. The $Ac_1$ and pearlite decomposition temperature are rised in accordance with increasing of additive Sb amount.

  • Mg-and Zn-ferrites having spinel structure, a kind of complex oxides showing the advantageous properties of constituently single metal oxides, were selected to find a relationship between their catalytic activities in the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene and the catalytic properties. For the structural and physical analyses of ferrites, XRD, BET, DTA, XPS, TEM and TPD methods were employed. Potassium added to the catalyst played a role of bifunctional promoter which brought the electronic effect as well as the structural one for the increment of particle dispersion. K-addition decreased acid strength of the catalyst by neutralization and increased its acidity. In the dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene, K-addition let the selectivity to styrene be constant throughout the reaction by the proper acid strength of the ferrite for the reaction, which could be obtained from the neutralization of strong acid sites by potassium.

  • Effects of density, inner-stress, and grain size on B-H hysteresis loop properties of Mg-ferrite were investigated. As the sintered bulk density increase, coercive force($H_c$) decreasand squareness ratio increase. Coercive force was very dependent on inner-stress in sintered body, so coercive force increase from 1.95[Oe] to 4.35[Oe] when inner stress present in bulk, however, the squareness ratio was almost not changed Coercive force and squareness ratio were independent on grain size of sintered body which is between 6-11[$\mu\textrm{m}$]

  • The crystallization of melts with similar composition of Portland cement liquid containing 0-5% $K_2O$ was studied by differential thermal and isothermal reaction. The devitrification of melts was occured in stages, the recognizable amount of CaO was appered at the first step, then proto-C3A was crystallized. The latter showed to occur in both cubic C3A and Ca-ferrite crystallization. Batches lost remarkable amounts of $K_2O$ as a result of volatilization during melting and the solubility of $K_2O$ in the melts was unstable.

  • To study the effect of welding methods on the Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) behavior of welded AISI type 316L and 304 austenitic stainless steel, the Slow Strain Rate Technique(SSRT) has been adopted in the boiling 45 wt% $MgCl_2$ solution. The results are as follows. 1) Welded sections are more susceptible than base metal in SCC, and the rank of SCC, and the rasistance in welding method is TIG, MIG, $CO_2$ and ARC. 2) The Ultimate tensile strength(UTS) and the strain of both base metal and welded joint are reduced as decreasing extension rate. 3) The SCC resistance of 316L base metal and welded sections are superior than that of 304. 4) The tendency of pitting and the SCC suseptibility are agreed well, and the SCC site is welded deposit section in 316L whereas HAZ in 304.
