Partial Purification and Characterization of a Glycoprotein Factor from Fresh Ginseng

  • The aqueous extract of fresh ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) contains a macromolecular fraction that showed mitogenic and comitogenic activities in human peripheral blood Iymphocytes. Purification of the crude extract by size (ultrafiltration, Sephadex G-200) and charge (DEAE-cellulose. DEAE-Sepharose) yielded a semi-purified fraction (DS-3). This fraction contains at least three subgroups of anionic macromolecules with apparent molecular weight greater than 600 kilodaltons. It is a glycoprotein with a large amount of glucuronic acid. It acts as a mitogen in both T and B cells of human peripheral blood lymphocytes. It could also potentiate the mitogenic action of Concanavalin A in Iymphocyte T cells. Such potentiation is not due to increased binding of Concanavalin A to the cell surface. Its mitogenic and co-mitogenic effects do depend on the presence of extracellular Ca2+.

  • 한국산 수삼으로부터 저압 액체크로마토그래피를 이용하여 conjugated poly-ynes(폴리아세틸렌) 정유성분을 분리 동정하였다. 이 방법은 종래의 방법에 비해 과정이 간편할 뿐만 아니라 폴리아세틸렌을 더욱 순수하게, 더욱 높은 수득률로, 그리고 더욱 빨리 분리할 수 있는 이점이 있다.

  • The effect of some phytohormones and light on the growth, ADC activity and polyamine content in ginseng was studies. In seedlings, the growth, ADC activity and putrescine content were in creased by Ghs treatment. ADC activity ann putrescine content were slightly slightly derreased by ABA, but not changed by kinetin. Light treatment increased ADC activity and putrescine content greatly. In two year ginseng leaves treated by GA3, the ADC actin$.$its reached maximum and the spermidine content reached maximum 2 days faster than in the control. Thtse results suggest the possibility that these regulators are closely related to growth and polyamine cotent. UeVo'ordsEPanaxgineng C.A. 청경종의 제형질 특성에 관하여 (Studies on the Characters of Green-stem Varient Ginseng Plant)

  • 청경종 특성을 알기위하여 지상부 제형질, 광합성과 호흡 그리고 자식세대의 경색을 조사하였다. 청경종은 엽경종, 황열종의 경, 엽, 광합성과 호흡에 뚜렷한 차이가 나타나지 않았지만 5년근시 화경장 형질이 타 변종보다 길었다. 광합성에 있어서는 청경종이 뚜렷한 차이는 없는 경향이며 비교적 황열종이 높았으나 $20^{\circ}C$ 이상에서는 모든 변종에서 현저히 떨어지는 경향이었다. 청경종내 자식세대 일부는 경색이 분리되는 경향이나 자식사대가 거듭할수록 녹색경(청경종) 출현이 높았다.

  • The Fagus Factory at Alfeld on the Leine in Germany, which was built in 1911 and 1914, is a well-known and very important object in the history of modern architecture. Alan Colquhoun mentioned that it is "prophetic of the 'objective' (sachlich) Modern Movement of the 1920s". Vittrio M. Lampugnani evaluated it as "a Pioneer building of the architectural Realism". Most of historian of architecture explain that these achievements were accomplished mainly by the master architect Walter Gropius and sometimes by his co-worker Adolf Meyer. Through investigating the background in the planning stage and the process of design it is to try to find out what is truly happened during the project time. Furthermore, historical meanings of the building in the modern architecture is reinterpreted in the following aspects; who or which elements have influence on the Fagus Factory? and what kind of problems can be caused by the digested architectural history?

The Biofeedback Scapular Stabilization Exercise in Stroke Patients Effect of Muscle Activity and Function of the Upper Extremity

  • Purpose: This study attempts to understand the effect of stabilization exercise of biofeedback scapular on muscle activity and functional evaluation of the upper extremity in stroke patients. Methods: Patients were divided into two groups; a biofeedback scapular stabilization exercise group comprised of 8 patients and a task-oriented training group including another 8 patients, and 30-minute exercise was performed 5 times a week for 8 weeks. Electromyogram was used to measure muscular activity of lower trapezius, deltoid middle, and serratus anterior. Fugl-Meyer Assessment and Manual Function Test were used to evaluate functions of the muscles mentioned. Results: Significant difference was observed in the comparison group before and after exercise in muscular activity of lower trapezius, deltoid middle, and serratus anterior, Fugl-Meyer Assessment, and Manual Function Test. Conclusion: Therefore, we could see that biofeedback scapular stabilization exercise is more effective than task-oriented training in facilitating muscle activation and functional capacity of upper limb.

  • The developmental processes of the protein body are studied on endosperm cells of Panax ginseng during seed maturation periods. The spherosome, mitochondria, rough endoplasmic reticulum, and ribosome are observed and then are gradually increased in early endosperm cells. Protein body developed from vesicles produced by the rough endoplasmic reticulum and was formed at the enlarged ends of rough endoplasmic reticulum. Also, vacuole-like protein body was observed in associated with rough endoplasmic reticulum. Golgi complex is observed in associated with vacuole and its vesicles containing proteinaceous granules moved and accumulated to the vacuole. Proteinaceous granules are deposited in the spherical or oval shaped vacuole and gradually, vacuole is surrounded by the multi-membranous structure. Rough endoplasmic reticulum, ribosome, Golgi complex, and vacuole are observed in associated with protein body formation.
