In the analysis of fatigue crack propagation behavior, the crack length is one of the most important factors. In the test of crack propagation, compliance method is widely used to detect crack length. The measurement of surface crack length is not so easy with compliance method. In this study, the image processing technique was applied to measure the surface crack length. CCD(Charge-coupled device) camera was used to observe the crack image and the computer program to detect crack length from stored crack image was developed. CCT(Center Cracked Tension) specimen was used to compare the compliance method with the image processing technique. The crack length which detected by the image processing techniques was found to be well consistent with that from the optical measurement.

Purpose: This study was conducted to explore the relationship among health belief. health locus of control and patients sick-role behavior compliance of diabetic mellitus patients visiting public health center. Method: The subjects of this study were 193 of the diabetic patients who were visiting 4 Public Health Center in B city. The instrument used for measuring health belief was Park's(1985). for health locus of control was Wallston. et al's(1978) and for sick-role behavior compliance was Park's(1984). The data were collected with structured questionnaires; total 58 items contained about health belief. health locus of control and sick-role behavior compliance from 1st to 31st July. 2001. The data was analyzed by the SPSS/PC programs using t-test. Pearson's correlation coefficient. ANOVA and Scheffe-test. Result: The average score of the health belief was $57.99\pm9.45$ health locus of control was $66.83\pm9.48$ and sick-role behavior compliance was $42.81\pm7.00$. Statistically significant factors influencing the health belief among social demographic characteristics were family number(F=3.818. p=0.024), monthly income(F=5.153, p=0.002), time of diagnosis(F=3.937. p=0.002) and difficult to control disease(F=5.803. p=0.000). The significant factors influencing the health locus of control were marital status(F=4.669. p=0.010). Also significant factors influencing the sick-role behavior compliance were monthly incomes(F=5.245, p=0.000). the time of diagnosis(F=4.424. p=0.001) and admission to hospital with diabetes(F=9.031. p=0.000). There was negative mild correlation comparatively between health belief and sickrole behavior compliance(r=-0.142, p<0.05) but no correlation in sensitiveness/severity, barrier, benefit(p<0.05). There was no correlation between internal. external. chance health locus of control and sick-role behavior compliance (P>0.05). Conclusion: There was a negative weak relationship between health locus of control and patient's sick role behavior compliance. Therefore further study to investigate the relating factor of the sick role behavior compliance among above of middle aged diabetes mellitus patients is necessary.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine how well patients who had hip arthroplasty comply with medical regimens given to them after the operation. Method: The subjects of the study were patients who had arthroplasty at P Hospital between April 1, 2001 and August 30, 2002. 20 patients of the subjects experienced complications after the operation and the other 20 did not. Data from a survey using the qustionnaire were statistically analyzed in terms of real number, percentage point, mean and standard deviation by using $X^2$-test, t-test and ANOVA. Result: 1) the surveyed patients were significantly different in the compliance of medical regimen among them according to their education background as one of the subjects general characteristics. 2) It was found that the group of complication was higher in the compliance of medical regimen than that of non-complication. The two groups showed statistically significant difference with each other in the degree of compliance with therapeutic instructions than the experimental group in terms of the maintenance of abduction after the operation, training instructions on step-by-step basis, urination cotrol on bed, accurate use of crutch, compliance with medication, balance among medical treatment, training, leisure, rest and nutrition, instructions by physicians, nurses and physical therapists, use of low armchairs and toilet bowels and no bending of the body forward, and use of a non-operated leg in case of go upstairs or downstairs. Conclusion: It seems necessary to develop systematic and sessional education programs for improving the compliance of medical regimen, ultimately reducing complications following hip arthroplasty.

General industrial robots are difficult to use for precision assembly because they are operated based on position control. Their position accuracy is also usually higher than the assembly clearance (several tens of ${\mu}m$). In previous researches, force control was suggested as a robotic assembly solution. However, this method is difficult to apply in reality because of speed and cost problems. The RCC provides high speed, but applications are limited because the compliance is fixed, and it cannot detect an assembly condition during a task. A variable passive compliance device (VPCD) was developed herein. The VPCD can detect the assembly condition during tasks. This device can provide proper compliance for successful assembly tasks. The pneumatic system and the Stewart platform with an LVDT sensor were applied for measuring the displacement and variable compliance, respectively. The concept design and analysis were conducted to prove the effectiveness of the developed VPCD.

As information asset protection is recognized as an important management factor for organizations, organizations are increasing their investments in information security(IS) policies and technologies. However, strict application of IS may cause non-compliance behavior through IS stress on employees of the organization. Accordingly, this study suggests a mechanism by which employee stress affects IS compliance intentions through self-determination, and a method to reinforce IS compliance intentions through person-organization fit. We conducted an online survey of employees working at companies that adopted IS policies and tested hypotheses using 475 samples. First, as a result of analyzing the main effects of applying the structural equation model, role stress affected IS compliance intention through self-determination. Second, as a result of analyzing the moderating effect of applying Process 3.1, personal organization fit strengthened the relationship between self-determination and IS compliance intention. The research suggests a direction for achieving internal IS goals by confirming the influence of IS stress and behavioral causes of employees.

In this paper, the structural design optimization of a wafer grinding machine using a multi-step optimization with genetic algorithm is presented. The design problem, in this study, is to find out the optimum configuration and dimensions of structural members which minimize the static compliance, the dynamic compliance, and the weight of the machine structure simultaneously under several design constraints. The first design step is shape optimization, in which the best structural configuration is found by getting rid of structural members that have no contributions to the design objectives from the given initial design configuration. The second and third steps are sizing optimization. The second design step gives a set of good design solutions having higher fitness for lightweight and minimum static compliance. Finally the best solution, which has minimum dynamic compliance and weight, is extracted among those good solution set. The proposed design optimization method was successfully applied to the structural design optimization of a high precision wafer grinding machine. After optimization, both static and dynamic compliances are reduced more than $92\%\;and\;93\%$ compared with the initial design, which was designed empirically by experienced engineers. Moreover the weight of the optimized structure are also slightly reduced than before.
Elastic-plastic fracture toughness($J_{IC}$) by ultrasonic method is evaluated in terms of width and thickness. Widths of specimen in 6061-T6 aluminum alloy are 50mm and 100mm, thicknesses of those are 20mm and 25mm, respectively. Elastic-plastic fracture toughness by ultrasonic method is independent of specimen thickness and side groove. Angle beam probe which are placed on the end of the compact specimen detect the maximum crack extension effectively. Comparing with elastic-plastic fracture toughness by ultrasonic method and that of unloading compliance method, $J_{IC}$ of ultrasonic method are underestimated to that of unloading compliance method. Elastic-plastic fracture toughness of width 100mm specimen are underestimated to that of width 50mm specimen about 20%.
This paper presents a smartphone-attachable vascular compliance monitoring module. The proposed sensor module measures photoplethysmogram (PPG) and reconstructs an accelerated PPG waveform. The feature points are extracted from the accelerated PPG waves, and vascular compliance is estimated using these extracted features. The module is powered via the smartphone's USB terminal and transmits the acquired waveforms along with vascular compliance values through Bluetooth. The transmitted waveforms and vascular compliance value are displayed through the smartphone application. This work proposes an assessment method for consistency of PPG instrumentation, and it was implemented in a processor of sensor module. The proposed sensor module can be easily attached to smartphone that does not support PPG instrumentation, providing simple measurment and numerical analysis of vascular compliance. To verify the performance of the implemented sensor module, we acquired vascular compliance and pulse pressure data from 29 subjects. Pulse pressure, which serves as a representative indicator of vascular compliance, was obtained using a commercial blood pressure monitor. The analysis results showed that the Pearson coefficient between vascular compliance and pulse pressure was 0.778, confirming a relatively high correlation between two metrics.
Fracture resistance curves for concerned materials are required in order to perform elastic-plastic fracture mechanical analyses. Fracture resistance curve is built with J-integral values and crack extension values. The objective of this paper is to apply the load ratio method to the measurement of the crack length for the real scale pipe specimen. For these, the fracture test using the real scale pipe specimen and finite element analyses were performed. A 4-point bending jig was manufactured for the pipe test and the direct current potential drop method and the load ratio method was used to measure the crack extension and the length for the real scale pipe test. Finite element analyses about the compliance of the pipe specimen were executed for applying the load ratio method according to the crack length.
