  • The cure characteristics of metal particle filled DGEBA/MDA/SN/ zeolite epoxy resin composite system for EMI shielding were investigated by dynamic DSC run method and FT-lR spectroscopy. As the heating rate increased, the peak temperature on dynamic DSC curve increased because of the rapid cure reaction. From the straight line of the Kissinger plot, the curing reaction activation energy and pre-exponential factor could be obtained. As the post-curing time at 15$0^{\circ}C$ increased, the glass increased the glass transition temperature or the thermal stability increased. When the post curing time is too long, the system filled with metallic Al particle can be thermally oxidized by the catalytic reaction of metal filler and the thermal stability of the composite for the EMI shielding application may be decreased.

  • The interaction of titanium (IV), yttrium (III), zirconium (IV), palladium (II) and cerium (IV) with deprotonated enrofloxacin leads to the formation of the neutral or cationic mononuclear complexes. The isolated solid complexes have been characterized with physicochemical and spectroscopic techniques and thermogravimeteric analyses. The spectroscopic data indicate that the enrofloxacin ligand is on the deprotonated mode acting as bidentate ligand coordinated to the metal ions through the ketone oxygen and a carboxylato oxygen and the metal ions completed the coordination number with water molecules. The thermal decomposition mechanisms proposed for enrofloxacin and their metal complexes were discussed. The activation energies, $E^*$, enthalpies, ${\Delta}H^*$, entropies, ${\Delta}S^*$ and Gibbs free energies, ${\Delta}G^*$, of the thermal decomposition reactions have been derived from thermogravimetric (TG) and differential thermogravimetric (DTG) curves, using Coats-Redfern (CR) and Horowitz-Metzeger (HM) methods. The antimicrobial activity has been evaluated against six different microorganisms.

  • Synthesis of carbon nanomaterials on a substrate coated with metal nitrates using an ethylene fueled inverse diffusion flame was illustrated. The effects of radial distance, residence time of the substrate, and hydrocarbon composition on the synthesis of carbon nanomaterials were investigated. The effects of catalyst metal particles were also studied using SUS304 substrates coated with Fe(NO$_3$)$_3$ (ferric nitrate, nonahydrate) and Ni(NO$_3$)$_2$(nickel nitrate, hexahydrate), and Cu substrate. Carbon nanomaterials, with diameters ranging from 30 - 70 nm, were observed on the substrate for both cases of using substrates only and using them with metal nitrates. In case of using the substrate with metal nitrates, the formation and growth of carbon nanomaterials were occurred in the lower temperature region than that of using the substrates only due to the easy activation of the metal particles coated on the surface of the substrates.

  • Mechanistic studies on the metal-exchange reactions of sparteine copper(II) dichloride [$SpCuCl_2$] with Hg(II) ion and Hg(0) metal have been carried out with the aid of Cyclic Voltammetry and UV-visible spectrophotometry. The metal exchange reaction of $SpCuCl_2$ with both Hg(II) ion and Hg(0) metal follows pseudo-first order kinetics. Rate constants and activation parameters of metal exchange reaction have been evaluated and reported. Experimental results indicate that the rate determining step for the exchange reaction is the cleavage of Cu(II)-N bond in the transient binuclear complex of Cu(II) and mercury(II) bound to sparteine ligand.

  • Recently, the treat of sludge is usually progressed by ocean disposal. But it will be totally banned by content of its heavy metal according to London Dumping Convention, gradually. The stable way of treat of sewage sludge should be examined urgently. To solve the problem, recently, there are efficient and environment-oriented method. One of them is to produce absorbent through the activation. This study produces absorbent through steam activation. As basic experiment, optimum activation condition for preparation of good absorbent is researched through study of the fellowing variables : steam flow rate, activated temperature, activation time. As the result of this with standard on iodine adsorptivity, it is chosen, that steam flow rate "30 mL/hr", activation temperature $"500^{\circ}C"$, activation time "60 minutes". At the time, iodine adsorptivity and yield shown that 228.4 mg/g, 77.23%. And also, by using nitrogen adsorption, SEM and EDS are confirmed that pore development, specific surface area, mean pore size, chemical component and content. Pore developed by steam activation is also confirmed that it is micropore.

  • The transesterification of dimethyl terephthalate(DMT) with ethylene glycol(EG) was kinetically investigated in the temperature range from 190 to $240^{\circ}C$ with and without a zinc acetate(Zn) as a catalyst. The degree of reaction was calculated by the measurement of the quantity of methanol which distilled from the reaction vessel. This distillation made corrections of reactant and catalyst concentrations necessary. The effects of catalyst concentration, molar ratio of DMT and EG, types of metal compounds, and temperature on kinetics were studied. The catalytic activity of various metal compounds was excellent, in order of Ti, Zn, Sn, and Sb. Also the order of activation energy was Zn>Ti>Sn>Sb.

  • In order to investigate the trace metals in Korean foods, the contents of Magnesium, Zinc, Manganese, Molybdenum and Selenium are studied in this paper. As show in the Table 1; a total of 250 samples of 25 species were analyzed by neutron activation analysis. The results obtained were as follows; 1. The overall ranges and mean (mg/100 g) were; Mg, 12.212∼151.346(55.164); Zn, 0.045∼38.180 (2.473); Mn, 0.003∼0.796 (0.225);Mo, ND∼0.035 (0.007); Se, ND∼0.069 (0.016). 2. The levels of all metals except Mo in shell fishes were high and the level of Mo in spices was higher than that in other foods. 3. The levels of Zn and Mo in oyster were higher than another spcies.

  • Activation behavior, hydriding rate and disintegration were studied for a compact in pellet form and hydrogen storage alloy particles treated with newly developed inorganic solution. Cylindrical disc of 12.95mm diameter and of 7.1mm thickness was prepared by compressing(8ton) a mixture of $MmNi_{4.5}Al_{0.47}$ and PTFE. Chemical treatment of particles with 1mol of solution was performed at room temperature for several hours until the pH of solution did not change. Chemical treatment made much accelerated activation without any incubation period which generally exists in the untreated alloys and the hydriding reaction rate after full activation also was improved.

  • Flow-Accelerated Corrosion behavior concerning both activation and mass transfer process of SA106 Gr.C steel was studied using rotating cylinder electrode in room temperature alkaline solution by DC and AC electrochemical techniques. Passive film was tanned from pH 9.8 by step oxidation of ferrous product into hydroxyl compound. Corrosion potential shifted slightly upward with rotating velocity through the diffusion of cathodic species. Corrosion current density increased with rotating velocity in pH 6.98, while it soon saturated from 1000 rpm at above pH 9.8. On the other hand the limiting current increased with rotating speed regardless of pH values. It seems that activation process, which represents formation of passive film on the bare metal surface, controls the entire corrosion kinetics

  • Activated carbon was prepared from coffee wastes by chemical activation with $ZnCl_{2}$, NaOH and KOH. The coffee wastes was used as raw material. Preparation process involves the roasting of raw material and carbonization of roasted material followed by chemical activation. N2-BET surface areas of activated coffee char prepared by chemical activation was measured as $1,110{\sim}2,442m^{2}/g$. Removal of copper and chromium in solution by activated carbon was carried out and structural change of pore surface was observed by SEM.
