Gradation Image Processing for Text Recognition in Road Signs Using Image Division and Merging

  • This paper proposes a gradation image processing method for the development of a Road Sign Recognition Platform (RReP), which aims to facilitate the rapid and accurate management and surveying of approximately 160,000 road signs installed along the highways, national roadways, and local roads in the cities, districts (gun), and provinces (do) of Korea. RReP is based on GPS(Global Positioning System), IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit), INS(Inertial Navigation System), DMI(Distance Measurement Instrument), and lasers, and uses an imagery information collection/classification module to allow the automatic recognition of signs, the collection of shapes, pole locations, and sign-type data, and the creation of road sign registers, by extracting basic data related to the shape and sign content, and automated database design. Image division and merging, which were applied in this study, produce superior results compared with local binarization method in terms of speed. At the results, larger texts area were found in images, the accuracy of text recognition was improved when images had been gradated. Multi-threshold values of natural scene images are used to improve the extraction rate of texts and figures based on pattern recognition.

  • Galaxy mergers are known to have been one of the main drivers in galaxy evolution in a wide range of environments. However, in galaxy clusters, high-speed encounters have been believed to undermine the role of mergers as a driver in galaxy evolution. Nonetheless, a high fraction (~38% in Sheen et al. 2012 and ~20% in Oh et al. 2018) of galaxies with post-merging features have been reported in deep (>~28 mag/arcsec2) optical surveys of cluster galaxies. The authors argue that these galaxies could have merged outside of the cluster and, later, fallen into the cluster, sustaining their long-lasting post-merging features. On the other hand, when galaxy clusters interact, galaxy orbits might be destabilized resulting in a higher galaxy merger rate.   • Symmetric cryptographic algorithm is incongruent in network environment by absence of authencation in spite of advantage of easy etc. on data processing and implementation of high speed. Therefore, proposed merging style authentication algorithm that use MAC and MDC so that symmetric cryptographic algorithm can achieve authentication. Proposed algorithm made security can wide of secure communication channel as to achieve authentication to cryptographic algerian itself not that act independently of symmetric cryptographic algorithm.

  • A cluster merging algorithm that merges convex clusters resulted by the Fuzzy Convex Clustering(FCC) method into non-convex clusters was proposed. This was achieved by proposing a fast and reliable distance measure between two convex clusters using Support Vector Machines(SVM) to improve accuracy and speed over other existing conventional methods. In doing so, it was possible to reduce cluster number without losing its representation of the data. In this paper, results for several data sets are given to show the validity of our distance measure and algorithm.

  • The fourth industrial revolution is a phenomenon where productivity is improved in each field by the convergence of IT technology and existing industries. In the dental treatment process, prosthetic treatment time is drastically shortened through AI and expert software. Oral imaging, prosthesis design, and prosthesis manufacturing are performed continuously, so the treatment can be completed in a few hours. In this paper, we introduce the research trend of multimedia technology in the prosthetic process. We also propose a new method for accelerating the fusion of surface data during the optical impression. Proposed method enables high-speed optical impression and accelerates the overall automated production process of dental prosthesis.

  • We can speak caption as information that can not except caption on sports video. The sports highlight were composed that we recognize captioning. This paper is the necessary work to the middle-step to analysis the caption through the retrieval and discrimination from the position of caption. This paper improve at first and simplify the image through the excellent threshold value algorithm in the preprocessing and then use method that can analysis caption through the multiplex frame merging algorithm. Its speed performing shows up higher and simplier than the region growing process.

  • Traffic safety in freeway work zones is of keen interest since both crash frequency and severity are much higher than those in general freeway sections. The lane closure in work zones results in greater work load of drivers due to compulsory lane changes and speed reduction. Therefore, traffic merging control is an effective countermeasure for enhancing work zone safety. This study proposed an integrated framework based on driving and traffic simulations to evaluate traffic merging control methods in terms of traffic safety. In addition to the conventional merging method using the taper, joint merge and chicane-type merge were evaluated by the proposed methodology. Chicane-type merge outperformed other methods under level of service (LOS) A and B. On the other hand, it was identified that joint merge showed the best safety performance under LOS C traffic conditions.

Development of a Gap Acceptance Model for the Simulation of Merging Area on Urban Freeways (모의실험 전산모형을 위한 도심고속도로 합류부 간격수락행태모형 개발)

  • Traffic engineers have developed and implemented various microscopic simulation models to verify the traffic performance and to prevent the expected problems. The existing microscopic simulation models categorize drivers into several types to reflect various drivers' driving patterns but miss the dynamics of drivers' behavior changed based upon the traffic conditions. It was found from the field data collected from two different merging sections on an urban freeway in Seoul, Korea, that the drivers' critical gap distributions are changed based on (1) the traffic density on the adjacent lane to the acceleration lane and (2) the opportunities left to merge in terms of distance to the end of acceleration lane. It was also found from the study that the drivers' critical gap distributions follow the Normal distribution. and its mean and variance change while a vehicle progresses on an acceleration lane. This paper proposes a new gap-acceptance model developed based on a set of drivers' critical gap distributions from each segment on the acceleration lanes. Through the comparison study between the field data and the results from the simulation utilizing the proposed model, it was verified that (1) the distribution of merging points on an acceleration lane to the adjacent main lane at different density levels, (2) the size of the gap accepted for merging and (3) the speed difference between the merging vehicle and the trailing vehicle at the time of merging are statistically identical to the field data at 95% confidence level.

  • With the increase of huge amount of data in network systems, ultimate high-speed network has become an essential requirement. In such systems, the encryption and decryption process for security becomes a bottle-neck. For this reason, the need of hardware implementation is strongly emphasized. In this study, a mixed inner and outer round pipelining architecture is introduced to achieve high speed performance of ARIA hardware. Multiplexers are used to control the lengths of rounds for 3 types of keys. Merging of encryption module and key initialization module increases the area efficiency. The proposed hardware architecture is implemented on reconfigurable hardware, Xilinx Virtex2-pro. The hardware architecture in this study shows that the area occupied 6437 slices and 128 BRAMs, and it is translated to throughput of 24.6Gbit/s with a maximum clock frequency of 192.9MHz.

  • A display panel image data manipulator for SOP or SOG is presented. It is capable of all the shift operations for MPEG decoders, graphic processors and controllers as well as data pack, merging, bit split and reformation operations to improve speed and memory utilization. To alleviate poly-Si low yield, redundancy based fault recovery scheme is introduced utilizing regular structure.
