  • The aim of this study is the development of a fee - based model day care center for the elderly by inquiring into the current condition of facilities in America and in Korea, and in surveying the opinion of domestic elderly about day care facilities. A field trip to U.S. day care services was held between July 5 and July 15 in 1997, and an on-the-spot study for domestic facilities took place during March in 1998. Our research reveals that the overall supply of day care facilities can not meet future demand in terms of quality and quantity. Therefore a model must be created for day care centers of a that consists of a director from a professional group. an adequate environment, and a standardized in order to offer a qualified public health service linked to the home and community in Korea. The director of a day care center is a critical variable in determining the quality of service. Professional skills related to the needs of the elderly and the person's quality of service should be considered in appointing director for the center. This study belleves that a professional nurse should be the director of a day care center. The operating environment of a day care facility should be made up of considerable space comparable to the number of residents, should be in a comfortable and safe location, and should have equipment that provides a qualified, safe service to the elderly. Our model is designed for 20 persons and allocates 4 Peng per person. This model is comprised of a reading room. a craft room, a health room, a room for physical therapy, a dining room, a staff office, and a multi -purpose room connected to other rooms. Day care service should be a comprehensive service program meeting the multidimensional needs of the elderly. A comprehensive service program needs a team of various professionals made up of the elderly family, participants, nurses, social workers, physical therapists, nutritionists, and medical doctors. The program will also include health care service, physical therapy, speech therapy. diet, occupational therapy, transportation service, health and an education program, etc. In conclusion, a model of a day care center is developed with the following components: a professional director and an environment and program, that considers the physical, mental, and social characteristics of the elderly. A model should also motivate self-reliance self-fulfillment in the elderly in order to fulfill their health needs and to prevent isolation from society and mental depression. Furthermore, This facility will be a beneficial factor in reducing a family's burden on caring for the elderly that includes unnecessary hospital expenses. The following is a suggestion based on results this study: A service program should be developed to fit the conditions of the elderly in Korea by specifically analyzing the needs of the elderly.

  • Objective: Shift work including night work is known to be harmful to the health of nurses. This study was conducted in order to systematically review the academic literature on the health effects of working time patterns, including shift work or night work, among Korean nurses and propose a research direction for the future. Methods: We searched online academic databases to find relevant papers in domestic and international journals using the keyword terms 'shift work', 'night work', 'night shift', 'work shift', 'nurse', and 'Korea', and reviewed a total of 36 articles. Results: As a result of this literature review, more than half of the articles were found to investigate the health effects between shiftwork and non-shiftwork nurses. A few studies considered the shift type(n=6), frequency of night shift(n=4), and shiftwork duration(n=3) as working time patterns. These studies focused mainly on mental health(n=18) or sleep(n=15). Conclusions: Based on the review results obtained from this study, it is necessary to assess working time patterns of Korean nurses using a variety of variables including night-work-related factors, and various health outcomes should be examined considering the confounder.

The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS program. Results: The subjects' levels of the job stress, empathy, resilience, and psychological well-being ranged from 2.34 to 3.33 points. The level of recovery resilience and well-being according to the subject's characteristics is 40 years or older, married, religious, ten years of nurse experience, above average economic level, psychiatric qualifications, senior nurse or higher, resilience education. All participants were significantly (p < .001). Conclusions: In this study, psychological well-being increased as the job stress was low and empathy and resilience were high. • The degree of nursing service requirement can be determined by functional health status and a predictive explanation for the status on the living-alone elderly is essential to plan home-care nursing intervention. The purpose of this study is to explore the functional health status of living-alone elderly. Especially the main purpose is to contrast the differences of the status between the residential living-alone elderly and institutional living-alone elderly. This study was conducted through the interview by the students of nurse college who were previously trained during the months of Oct. and Nov. 1996. Sample participants located in Tong-Gu and Seo-Gu of Kwangju City. To contrast the functional health status. this study tried to utilize the Activity Inventory(AI). Among the AI's this study adopted the Physical Activity of Daily Living(PADL) and Instrumental Activity of Daily Living(IADL). Results of the study show that the home-care nursing intervention for the living-alone elderly is urgent more for the residential than for the institutional. It seems that the residential living-alone elderly suffer from inability in Physical Activity of Daily Living. As the residential elderly who have some physical lacks prefer the institution. it is recommended to support physical lacks for the institutional. And more mental-emotional support is recommended for the residential living-alone elderly. The degree of the residential's IADL is higher than that of the institutional. It seems that it was caused by the reason that the residential's needs for the minimum level of life is greater than that of the institutional. So the polypharmacy in elderly nursing-home residents must be considered as sigificant.

  • In this study, nurses above the age of 20 years and working in General Hospitals located in the Gyeongbuk province were enrolled as participant. A survey was conducted to identify the relationship between types of health-eating, level of occupational stress, and degree of quality of life. An effective sample size of 120 was determined, and it was validated as a feasible count to perform the analysis by applying the PLS-SEM. We hypothesized that the physiological and psychological occupational stress levels vary according to functional, mental, and trendy types of health-eating lives and impact the degree of quality of life. This was evaluated using structural models, employing the bootstrapping method using the Smart PLS 3.0. Our results indicate that in the relationship between health-eating types and quality of life, the higher the functional health-eating type, the higher the quality of life. The association between job stress and quality of life showed that the higher the psychological work stress, the more negative the quality of life. Examining the association between the type of healthy eating and the quality of life revealed that the higher the functional health-eating type, the higher the quality of life. As a result of verifying the moderating effect of the difference in working period (less than 3 years/more than 3 years), it was found that the shorter the working period (less than 3 years), the higher the psychological stress.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a measuring tool for the health promotion behavior of Korean nurses. This would address the lack of a proven tool that reflects the nature of the nurses' nursing environment. This study was conducted on 530 nurses from January to December 2019. A literature review and focus group interview were conducted, data analysis was carried out to measure validity and reliability, and the conceptual framework was constructed by applying the IMB model. Five factors namely self-concept (2 questions), hospital life management (4 questions), knowledge and information regarding health (5 questions), physical and mental stress management (3 questions), and work adaptation (2 questions) were framed into 16 questions. The model fit was 346.23 (<.001), Parsimonious Normed Fit Index (PNFI) was 0.60, and Parsimonious Comparative Fit Index (PCFI) was 0.63, which met the acceptance criteria, and the Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) was 0.10. Goodness of Fit Index (GFI) was 0.88, Comparative Fit Index (CFI) was 0.85, and Incremental Fit Index (IFI) was 0.85 which were found to be acceptable as per the applicable standards. All items had a Cronbach's score of .85, which ensured stable reliability. The nurse's health promotion behavior measurement tool developed in this study will be used to measure the nurse's health promotion behavior in terms of nursing practice which will help in understanding the broad contours of this behavior.
