  • In 2021,the incidence of newly notified tuberculosis in Jeju Province decreased by 23.0% compared to that in the previous year. This was the largest decline among the 18 municipalities studied. This study aimed to examine trends in the incidence of tuberculosis among different age and sex groups in Jeju Province between 2017 and 2021. This study observed the number of new cases in the annual report from 2017 to 2021, published by the Jeju Center for Infectious Diseases Control and Prevention. The average annual percentage change (AAPC; %) was calculated to determine the trend in crude incidence rates over the past 5 years by sex and age. While a P-value of <0.1 was considered marginally significant, aP-value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. The AAPC of all age groups in Jeju Province had negative values. In men, there was a statistically significant decrease in ages 30-34, 40-44, 45-49, and 50-54 years and a marginally significant decrease in ages 35-59, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 75-79, and ≥80 years. In women, a statistically significant decrease was observed among patients aged 30-34, 35-39, and ≥80 years, and a marginally significant decrease was observed among patients aged 45-49, 50-54, 60-64, 65-69, and 75-79 years. A statistically significant decrease in tuberculosis was observed among patients in their 30s and 40s, and elderly patients aged ≥80 years comprised the group vulnerable to tuberculosis. Based on these findings, tuberculosis prevention and screening programs conducted in Jeju Province were effective.

  • Objectives : To help develop strategies to cope with the changes arising from the rapid aging process by predicting the determining factors of intention to actual use of the charged long-term care services for elderly as perceived by the middle aged who play the major role of supports. Methods : Subjects were the parents (men 177, women 507) in their 40s of the students selected from a university of Busan city. A questionnaire survey was conducted for 4 weeks in October 2003 about the knowledge for long-term care service, the intention of actual use, and the preferences about the type of service suppliers. Data analysis was performed with frequency, chi-square test, and t-test using SPSS program (ver 10.0K), along with data mining using decision tree of Enterprise Miner V8.2 by SAS. Results : About half of the subjects (53.7%) had the actual experiences of elderly supports. Intentions to use the charged services were relatively high in home visiting nursing care service (40.1%) and long-term care facilities service (40.4%), and were influenced by previous knowledge about the services. The intentions were stronger in women, those with higher education, and those with greater income levels. Actual elderly supports were mostly (80%) done by women, and the perceived burdens for the supports were bigger in women and those of lower socioeconomic level. Desired charges were about 10,000 won for the bath service, 20,000 won for the rests services per day, and about 500,000 won for the long-term care facilities service per month. From the result of decision tree analysis, the job professionalism was the most important determining factor of intention to actual use of the services with validation as $63{\sim}71%$. Health and welfare mixed type facilities were preferred, and the most important consideration was the level of professionalism. Conclusions : Intention to actual use of the charged services was largely determined by the aspects of time and cost. Polices to increase the number of service suppliers and to decrease the burdens perceived by actual supporters were strongly recommended.

  • This study was initiated to investigate (1) the current sizing system for mail-order clothing, (2) consumers' preference for sizing systems, and (3) consumers' satisfaction with garment size. The apparel items and the sizes available at various mail-order companies in Korea were also reviewed. This investigation of consumers' preferences for various size description systems includes a survey of 410 men and women who had purchased garments by mail-order. The data were analyzed by Statistical Analysis System/pc. The major results are as follows; 1. The sizing system of mail-order clothing was different by garment items. The number of apparel sizes available for mail-order purchasing was three or less. The most mail∼order garments were labeled by the numerical size codes of body girth nleasurements or letter code (S, M, L). 2. The size description system most prefered by female subjects(N : 360) was the numerical size code of a body measurement(55.4%). The combination of bust-hips-height measurements size codes were prefered by 13.3% . The pictogram was least premiered by the subjects. 3. The apparel items that subjects wanted to buy using mail-order were underwear, home -weat and night-wear. The heavy users of mail-order purchasing, however, also wanted to purchase expensive garments requiring precise fit. The subjects aged from 20's to 80's wanted to purchase childern's wear by mail. 4. The desire for diversity of garment item and size of mail-order apparel was relatively high. The subjets also wanted to purchase special size garments by mail-order, e. g., garment sizes for full or tall figure.

  • The present study investigated the parenting alliance's mediating effects on the relationship between adult attachment and marital satisfaction. The participants were 157 married parents of young children(77 men and 80 women). We used the Experiences in Close Relationships Scales (Kim & Lee, 2005), Quality Marriage Index (Jang, 2001), and Parenting Alliance Inventory (Abidin, 1988) and analyzed data using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and regression analysis, via SPSS PC program(17.0 version). The results revealed that the effects of married males' avoidant dimension on marital satisfaction were partially mediated by their wives' parenting alliance. The effects of married females' anxious dimension on marital satisfaction were totally mediated, and the effects of married females' avoidant dimension on marital satisfaction were partially mediated, by their husbands' parenting alliance. In conclusion, the parenting alliance mediates the effects of adult attachment on marital satisfaction in couples with young children.

  • The purpose of this study was to meta-analyze and compare the effect sizes of socioeconomic status and psychosocial factors on self-rated health among older adults. Also, to examine whether those effect sizes had been affected by certain moderator like gender through meta-regression analysis was attempted. A total of 487 effect sizes computed from 80 studies published in Korea before 2013 were analysed. The results of this research were as follows. Firstly, spousal support had the largest effects, followed by income, educational level, occupation, support of children, assets, non-family support, family support and social activities. Secondly, while the positive effect of non-family support on self-rated health increased for women than men, the positive effect of income decreased. The findings suggest the following; The importance of spousal support should be recognized for later life's health and the health support for those who had been bereaved must come first. Income security policies and non-family support for elderly women must be strengthened.

  • This paper estimates the health life expectancies for Korean people based on a sample cohort database collected through objective measurements by the National Health Insurance Service. Health life expectancy is estimated using the single-state approach of Sullivan (1971). The 9-order correction factor method of Greville (1945) and Brass-logit model of Brass (1971) are also adopted for unobserved or incompletely observed age-specific morbidity and mortality. Based on the mortality and morbidity estimated from sample cohort DB, men and women in Korea are expected to live a 'healthy life' for 61 and 60 years in 2013, respectively, whereas life expectancies of men and women are 80 and 87, respectively. We also estimate certain disease-free life expectancies for each of genders, income levels, and types of insurance from 2003 to 2013 in Korea. We found that there exists an inequality of healthy life expectancy in Korea for different genders, income levels, and types of insurance.

  • In this paper, we measured the user's EEG signal and classified the EEG signal using the Support Vector Machine algorithm and measured the accuracy of the signal. An experiment was conducted to measure the user's EEG signals by separating men and women, and a single channel EEG device was used for EEG signal measurements. The results of measuring users' EEG signals using EEG devices were analyzed using R. In addition, data in the study was predicted using a 80:20 ratio between training data and test data by applying a combination of specific vectors with the highest classifying performance of the SVM, and thus the predicted accuracy of 93.2% of the recognition rate. This paper suggested that the user's EEG signal could be recognized at about 93.2 percent, and that it can be performed only by simple linear classification of the SVM algorithm, which can be used variously for biometrics using EEG signals.
