  • Spray dried $Cr_2O_3$ powder having an agglomerated structure of particles was twice treated into a plasma flame to increase its apparent density. The powder subjected to the first densification treatment did not show the entirely melted state keeping inner particle hollows, and it was fully melted after the second processing only. The powder size as a result of the second treatment decreased, and the apparent density as well as flowability were increased due to melting and surface smoothing effects. But a part of particles after the second densified treatment showed the hollow structure, especially those which were above $30{\mu}m$ in size. This densification behavior of the powder has been qualitatively discussed in terms of the thermal conductivity and inner gas pressure within aggregates exposed to the plasma flame.

  • In the present work, PLA/PBS blends with poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) at different contents were processed by using a twin-screw extruder and an injection molding machine, and then their mechanical, thermal and morphological properties were investigated. The mechanical properties such as flexural strength, flexural modulus, tensile strength and tensile modulus and thermal properties such as melting behavior, dynamic mechanical thermal properties and thermal stability significantly depended on the contents of PLA and PBS. However, the heat deflection temperature of the blends was not significantly influenced by the contents of PLA and PBS. Also, the fracture surfaces of PLA/PBS blends were changed from a brittle pattern to a ductile pattern with increasing the PBS contents.

  • To improve the performance of carbon nanofibers as electrode material in electrical double-layer capacitors (EDLCs), we prepare three types of samples with different pore control by electrospinning. The speciments display different surface structures, melting behavior, and electrochemical performance according to the process. Carbon nanofibers with two complex treatment processes show improved performance over the other samples. The mesoporous carbon nanofibers (sample C), which have the optimal conditions, have a high sepecific surface area of $696m^2g^{-1}$, a high average pore diameter of 6.28 nm, and a high mesopore volume ratio of 87.1%. In addition, the electrochemical properties have a high specific capacitance of $110.1F\;g^{-1}$ at a current density of $0.1A\;g^{-1}$ and an excellent cycling stability of 84.8% after 3,000 cycles at a current density of $0.1A\;g^{-1}$. Thus, we explain the improved electrochemical performance by the higher reaction area due to an increased surface area and a faster diffusion path due to the increased volume fraction of the mesopores. Consequently, the mesoporous carbon nanofibers are demonstrated to be a very promising material for use as electrode materials of high-performance EDLCs.

  • Electrorefining is a key step in pyroprocessing. The electrorefining process is generally composed of two recovery steps - the deposit of uranium onto a solid cathode and the recovery of the remaining uranium and TRU elements simultaneously by a liquid cadmium cathode. Uranium deposit recovered from the solid cathode is a dendritic powder. It is necessary to separate the adhered salt from the deposits prior to the consolidation of uranium deposit. The adhered salt is composed of lithium, potassium, uranium, and rare earth chlorides. Distillation process was employed for the cathode processing. One of the operation methods is distillation of the salt at low temperature ($900^{\circ}C$), and then melting of the deposit at high temperature to avoid a backward reaction. For the development of the salt distiller, the distillation behavior of the low vapor pressure chlorides should be studied. Rare earth chlorides in the adhered salt of uranium deposits have relatively low vapor pressures compared to the process salt (LiCl-KCl). In this study, the evaporation rates of the lanthanum and neodymium chlorides were measured for the salt separation from electrorefiner uranium deposits in the temperature range of $825{\sim}910^{\circ}C$. The evaporation rate of both chlorides increased with an increasing templerature. The evaporation rate of lanthanum chloride varied from 0.12 to $1.68g/cm^2/h$. Neodymium chloride was more volatile than lanthanum chloride. The evaporation rate of neodymium chloride varied from 0.20 to $4.55g/cm^2/h$. The evaporation rate of both chlorides are more than $1g/cm^2/h$ at $900^{\circ}C$. Even though the evaporation rates of both chlorides were less than that of the process salt, the contents of the lanthanide chlorides were small in the adhered salt. Therefore it can be concluded that $900^{\circ}C$ is suitable for the operation temperature of the salt distiller.

  • Fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites are applied to transport industries to lightweight of body, and applications will be expanded gradually. In this study, the impregnation and mechanical properties of continuous glass fiber (GF) reinforced polycarbonate (PC) composites were evaluated with different molecular weights of PC. The continuous GF reinforced PC composite were prepared by using GF fabric and PC film via continuous compression molding method. The melting flow index and tensile strength of PC matrix were evaluated with different molecular weights. Mechanical properties (tensile, flexural, and compressive) and pore rate of GF/PC composite were evaluated with different molecular weights of PC. The fracture behavior was analyzed to fracture surface of GF/PC composite using FE-SEM images. As these results, it was condition of representing the best mechanical property that the GF/PC composite was prepared by using PC of 20,000 g/mol as matrix.

  • During the last years, great progress has been made in the fields of welding power sources and filler materials for the MIG-welding of magnesium alloys. This advice resulted in a better welding process, md, therefore, in highly improved welding results. Furthermore the gap between short-circuiting- and spray-arc-trunsfer could be closed by the triggered short-circuiting- and the short-circuiting-arc with pulse overlay. A crucial contribution to the welding process is the energy input into the filler material. Many problems result from the physical properties of magnesium, for instance its narrow interval between melting point 600$^{\circ}C$ and vaporization point 1100$^{\circ}C$. The energy input into the filler material has to be regulated in such a way that the wire will melt but not vaporize. For th is reason, special characteristics of power sources hue been examined and optimized with the help of high-speed-photographs of the welding process with particular consideration of the drop detachment. An important improvement of the weld seam profile has been achieved by using filler material of only 1.2 mm in diameter. The experiments hue been made with 2.5 mm thick extruded profiles of AZ31 and AZ6l. The results of tensile testing showed strength values of 80 to 100% of the base metal. B ending angles up to 60$^{\circ}$ have been reached. The fatigue strength under reversed bending of the examined magnesium alloys after welding reaches 50% of the strength of the base metal. When the seam reinforcement is ground of the fatigue strength can be raised up to 75% of the base metal.

  • The Daehwa Mo-W deposit is located within the Gyeonggi massif. Quartz and calcite vein mineralization occurred in the Precambrian gneiss and Jurassic granites. Three main types (Type I: liquid-rich $H_2O$ type, Type II: vapor-rich $H_2O$ type, Type III: $CO_2-H_2O$ type) of fluid inclusions were observed and are classified herein based on their phase relations at room temperature. Within ore shoots, type III fluid inclusions have been classified into four subtypes (type IIIa, IIIb, IIIc and IIId) based on their volume percent of aqueous and carbonaceous ($CO_2$) phase at room temperatures combined with their total homogenization behavior and homogenization behavior of $CO_2$ phase. Homogenization temperatures of primary type I fluid inclusions in the quartz range from $374^{\circ}C$ to $161^{\circ}C$ with salinities between 13.6 and 0.5 equiv. wt.% NaCl. Homogenization temperatures of primary type III fluid inclusions in quartz of main generation, are in the range of $303^{\circ}C$ to $251^{\circ}C$. Clathrate melting temperatures of the type III fluid inclusions were 7.3 to $9.5^{\circ}C$, corresponding to salinities of 5.2 to 1.0 equiv. wt. % NaCl. Melting and homogenization temperatures of $CO_2$ phase of type III fluid inclusions were -57.4 to $-56.6^{\circ}C$ and 29.0 to $30.8^{\circ}C$, respectively. Fluid inclusion data indicate a complex geochemical evolution of hydrothermal fluids. The Daehwa early hydrothermal system is characterized by $H_2O-CO_2$-NaCl fluid at about $400^{\circ}C$. The main mineralization occurred by $CO_2$ immiscibility at temperatures of about 300 to $250^{\circ}C$. At the late base-metal mineralization aqueous fluid formed by mixing with cooler and less saline meteoric groundwater.

  • Hot melt adhesive which is solventless type has been widely used due to the possibility of automated adhesion process. The main purpose of this study is the development of polyamide based hot melt adhesive to improve the property of conventional ethylene-vinyl acetate hot melt adhesive, which has an inherent problem against heat resistance. In this study, it was found that the terpolymers of nylon 6, nylon 66, and nylon 12(CM831, 843P types) instead of nylon homopolymer were suitable base resins for hot melt adhesive, since the disruption of regularity in the polymer chains reduced the crystallinity, resulting in lower melting point and melt viscosity. According to the results, the optimum adhesion property could be obtained by the using 75/25~50/50 weight radio of CM831/843P resin as a base resin. Terpene resin was used as tackifier to improve adhesion and wetting properties. The best result can be obtained with the 10 wt.% addition of terpene resin. The terpene resin acted as proper tackifier in this system which decreased the melt temperature and viscosity, but increased the mechanical strength of adhesive itself. Also, the rheological property of the adhesive changed from typical non-Newtonian behavior to Newtonian behavior as terpene resin was added.

  • If a hydrogen explosion occurs in a containment building, its multiplex defense wall may be destroyed and a large amount of radioactive material may be released. The hydrogen occurred interacting with melting fuel rods must be effectively controlled and removed. however, the countermeasures for reducing explosion risk are difficult to carry out, due owing to the various variety of accident scenarios causes and the irregularity of hydrogen distribution and behavior. In this study, We examine the guide structures while considering the ambient flows, in order to improve the efficiency of PAR the widely used Passive Autocatalytic Recombiner(PAR). We simulate the fluid behavior and the hydrogen reduction rate were simulated when a guide is attached to the two-step catalyst PAR. For an upward flow, the consisting of a height of 150mm, a gap of 0mm, and a performs $60^{\circ}$ showed the best. In contrast, for a sideways flow, a consisting of the height of 150mm, a gap of 100mm, and a performs $60^{\circ}$ showed the best in the case of side ward flow. for a downward flow, a consisting of the height of 50mm and a directly attached guide produce the best in the case of down ward flow results.

  • Three kinds of $Al_3Ti-Cr$ alloys, namely, $Al_{67}Ti_{25}Cr_8,\;Al_{66}Ti_{24}Cr_{10}\;and\;Al_{59}Ti_{26}Cr_{15}$, were prepared by induction melting followed by the thermomechanical treatment. The corrosion behavior in 3.5% NaCl solution and the high-temperature oxidation behavior at 1000, 1100 and $1200^{\circ}C$ for the prepared alloys were investigated. Electrochemical results indicated increased resistance to localized corrosion with increasing Cr content. Cr additions were found to prevent passive film from undergoing brittle fracture. XPS results revealed the passive films of $Al_3Ti-Cr$ alloys were composed mainly of $Al_2O_3$ that coexisted with $TiO_2$ and $Cr_2O_3$. The overall oxidation resistance of the prepared alloys were excellent. Specifically, the oxidation resistance increased in the order of $Al_{59}Ti_{26}Cr_{15},\;Al_{66}Ti_{24}Cr_{10}\;and\;Al_{67}Ti_{25}Cr_8$. As the Al content in the base alloys increased, the $Al_2O_3$ formation was facilitated leading to the increased oxidation resistance.
