  • Silicate glasses with different $Nd_2O_3$ concentrations were prepared through conventional melt-quenching methods while PbS quantum dots (QDs) were precipitated through heat treatment. The peak wavelengths of absorption and the photoluminescence of PbS QDs shifted to the short-wavelength side as the concentration of $Nd_2O_3$ increased. The electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) indicated that $Nd^{3+}$ ions were preferentially distributed inside the PbS QDs instead of the glass matrix. In addition, there was no significant change in the lifetimes of the $Nd^{3+}:^4F_{3/2}$ fluorescence between the as-prepared glass ($607{\mu}s$) and the heat-treated glass($576{\mu}s$). $Nd^{3+}$ ions were surrounded by oxygen instead of sulfur and the Nd-O clusters probably acted as nucleating centers for the formation of PbS QDs inside the glasses.

  • At the previous papers, we showed that K2O-CaO-P2O5 glasses had a solubility in air so that they could be used for glass fertilizer. In this work, we fabricated the Eco-glass fertilizer containing trace elements such as B, Mg, Zn, Fe, Cu, Co, and Mo by a melt-quenching process and the dissolution properties of these glasses were investigated with pH meter and ICP analyzer. In case of the glasses containing the trace elements, effect of trace elements on the dissolutions is not obvious and ignorant the stability of mother glass. Also, the dissolution amounts of each trace elements depend on the mother glass composition and the quantity of each trace element, and mother glasses determined the dissolving velocity of chemical elements.

  • Nanostructured or partially amorphous Al-and Zr-based alloys are attractive candidates for advanced high-strength lightweight materials. Such alloys can be prepared by quenching from the melt or by powder metallurgy using mechanical attrition techniques. This work focuses on mechanically attrited powders and their consolidation into bulk specimens. Selected examples of mechanical deformation behavior are presented, revealing that the properties can be tuned within a wide range of strength and ductility as a function of size and volume fraction of the different phases.

  • A series of $Er^{3+}/Yb^{3+}$ co-doped fluorophosphate glasses with varying $YbF_3$ concentration were prepared by a high temperature melt quenching technique. Absorption and emission cross-sections were determined by using the McCumber theory. The larger emission cross-section ($9.86{\times}10^{-21}cm^2$) and longer fluorescence lifetime (12.37 ms) were obtained for the $^4I_{13/2}{\rightarrow}^4I_{15/2}$ transition of ABS3Er4Yb glass. The sensitivity and temperature of the maximum sensitivity were evaluated by the fluorescence intensity ratio method from the measured upconversion spectra. The results were discussed and compared to the other reported glasses.

  • We have investigated the ionic conductivity and dielectric relaxation in $Li_2B_4O_7$ (LBO) and $Li_2O-B_2O_3-Ta_2O_5$ (LBTO) glasses. The sample was synthesized by using the melt quenching method. The frequency dependence of the electrical data from the LBO and LBTO glasses has been analyzed in the frameworks of the impedance Cole-Cole formalism and the universal power-law representation driven by the modified fractional Rayleigh equation. The potential barriers in the LBO and the LBTO glasses turn out to be the same. Comparing with the dc and ac activation energies of the LBO glass, these energies of the LBTO glass decrease due to the increasing Coulomb interaction of inter-cationic interaction.

  • The crystallization behaviours of nanocomposite made by a function of quenching rate (roller speed) were studied. The results showed that there was one step c$\mathbb{r}$ystallization process for the alloy quenched at roller speed of 32 m/s, which could be shown as, Am (amorphouse) + ${\alpha}-Fe/Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ ${\rightarrow}$ ${\alpha}-Fe/Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ . For the alloy quenched at roller speed of 40 m/s, there was steps crystallization process taking place at different temperatures, which could be shown as, Am ${\rightarrow}$ ${\alpha}-Fe/Nd_2Fe_{23}B_3+Nd_2Fe_{14}B+Am`$ ${\rightarrow}$ ${\alpha}-Fe/Nd_2Fe_{14}B$. The presence of transition phase ($Nd_2Fe_{23}B_3$) was harmful to get fine and uniform grain size during crystallization process. Uniform microstructures and high magnetic properties could be attained for the as-quenched alloy containing less amorphous phase and no presence of transition phase during annealing treatment. For the alloy prepared at roller speed of 32 m/s, the following properties were obtained, $B_r= 0.904 T,_iH_c = 801 kA/m, (BH)_{max} = 122 kJ/m^3 and M_r/M_s = 0.6$.

  • $Nd_{x}Fe_{77}B_{23-x}(x=4,\;6,\;8,\;11,\;13)$ alloys were prepared by rapid quenching technique. They were crystallized at higher than $650^{\circ}C$ and subsequently the magnetic properties were investigated The melt-spun alloy of x=8 consisted of nearly single metastable compound $Nd_{2}Fe_{23}B_{3}$ and showed the soft magnetic property. In $8{\leq}x{\leq}13$ alloys, the coercivities were increased according to the increase of Nd content but the remanences decreased. In $4{\leq}x{\leq}6$ alloys, the coercivities and the remanences were increased by lowering Nd content. In x=4 alloy, the ratio of soft to hard magnetic phase was 70:30 and the energy product was $96kJ/m^{3}(12MG.Oe)$.

  • In the present work, the gamma ray backscattering technique was used to determine the effective atomic numbers for certain binary alloys. With the help of a muffle furnace, the binary alloys were synthesized using the melt quenching technique with different compositions of $_{82}Pb$, $_{50}Sn$, and $_{30}Zn$. The intensity distribution of backscattered photons from radioactive isotope $^{22}Na$ (511 keV) was recorded with the help of GAMMARAD5 [$76mm{\times}76mm$ NaI(Tl) scintillator detector] and analyzed as a function of both atomic number and thickness of the target material. The effective atomic numbers for the same binary alloys were also computed theoretically using the atomic to electronic cross-section method with the help of the mass attenuation coefficient database of WinXCom (2001). Good agreement was observed between theoretical and experimental results for the effective atomic numbers of all the selected alloys.

  • Ternary tellurite glassy systems ($Li_2O-V_2O_5-TeO_2$) have been synthesised using Vanadium oxide as a network former and Lithium oxide as network modifier. The addition of a metal oxide makes them electric or mixed electric-ionic conductors, which are of potential interest as cathode materials for solid-state batteries. This glass-ceramics crystallized from the $Li_2O-V_2O_5-TeO_2$ system are particularly interesting, because they exhibit high conductivity (up to $5.63{\times}10^{-5}$ S/cm) at room temperature the glass samples were prepared by quenching the melt on the copper plate and the glass-ceramics were heat-treated at crystallizing temperature determined from differential thermal analysis (DTA). The electric DC conductivity result have been analyzed in terms of a small polaron-hopping model.
