The Effect of Adolescent Sexual Media Literacy and Sexual Permissiveness on Gender Sensitivity (청소년의 성미디어리터러시, 성허용성이 성인지감수성에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the effects of adolescent sexual media literacy and sexual permissiveness on gender sensitivity and to provide evidences useful in developing a sex education program that would promote gender sensitivity among adolescents. Methods: Data were derived from 250 adolescents' responses to questionnaires. Collected data were analyzed using ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Results: Gender sensitivity according to gender was significantly different (t=-6.54, p=0.001). Gender sensitivity was positively correlated with sexual media literacy (r=0.36, p<0.001), and negatively correlated with sexual permissiveness (r=.22, p<.001). Sexual media literacy was negatively correlated with sexual permissiveness (r=-0.39, p<0.001). The variables affecting the participants' gender sensitivity on media literacy were gender (β=0.33, p<0.001) and sexual depiction scene (β=0.24, p<0.001). Conclusion: Gender and sexual media literacy influenced participants' gender sensitivity. Therefore, when developing a school-based sex education program, sexual media literacy should be included as a key concept; moreover, gender-specific programs need to be developed. Furthermore, teaching methods should enhance media literacy related to sexual depiction scenes and promote safe and healthy sexual permissiveness.

Study on Agenda-Setting Structure between SNS and News: Focusing on Application of Network Agenda-Setting

  • This study applied network agenda-setting theory to analyze the impact of the agenda-setting function of the media on certain issues by focusing on the agenda at the center of controversy, 'Creative Economy'. To this end, the study extracted the data referred to creative economy in the media and SNS from 1 January 2008 to 31 December 2014, and analyzed the data using the network analysis program UCINET and the Korean language analysis program Textom. The results of the present study show that, during the period under former President Lee (2008-2011), the media's creative economy agenda-setting function did not exert a significant impact on the agenda-setting within SNS. However, from 2012 when the government of former President Park Geun-hye had started, the agenda-setting function of the media starts to show increasingly strong influence on the agenda cognition in SNS. The central words and sub-words configuration forming the center of the semantic network moved in the direction of a high correlation, in addition to the gradually increasing correlation based on QAP correlation analysis. In 2014, the semantic networks of the media and SNS bore a close resemblance to each other, while the shape of networks and sub-words structure also had a high level of similarity.

The Effects of Smart Media Based STEAM Program of 'Chicken Life Cycle' on Academic Achievement, Scientific Process Skills and Affective Domain of Elementary School Students (스마트미디어 기반의 '닭의 한살이' 융합인재교육(STEAM) 수업이 초등학생의 학업성취도, 과학 탐구 능력 및 정의적 영역에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper examines the effects on academic achievement, scientific process skills and affective domain for elementary students learning the 'Chicken life cycle' through traditional science class versus a smart media based STEAM approach. Students designed and built a hatching jar and created a smart media content for chickens using time-lapse technology. This STEAM program was developed to improve their scientific concepts of animals over nine periods of classes using integrated education methods. The experimental study took place in the third grade of public schools in a province, with the STEAM approach applied in 2 classes (44 students) and the traditional discipline approach implemented in 2 classes (46 students). The STEAM education significantly influenced the improvement of academic achievements, basic scientific process skills and affective domain. The results suggest that this STEAM approach for teaching scientific concepts of animal life cycles has the performance in terms of knowledge, skills and affect gain achievements in elementary school students' learning when compared to a traditional approach. Moreover, the smart media based STEAM program is helpful to lead students to engage in integrated problem-solving designs and learning science and technology.

Media Criticism on TV for the Last 10 Years: A Content Analysis of (TV 미디어 비평의 어제와 오늘: <미디어비평(KBS)> 10년, 내용분석)

  • It has been 10 years since KBS first broadcasted TV program for the purpose of expanding mutual criticism among Korean mass media. This study conducted a content analysis of KBS episodes for the last 10 years. Through the content analysis, this study explored what the program had showed us in the aspects of 'the subject of criticism', 'the ground of criticism', 'the attribution of criticism'. The content analysis could show meaningful results to the study of media criticism, because it not only provides a meta-analysis of the problems Korean mass media have had for the last 10 years but also examines the program has been consistent in the regard of criticism fairness. The result of this study showed that has pointed out the practices of unfairness, political bias and superficial and shallow reporting as the most critical problems the Korean mass media have. Also, the result showed that had not been consistent in the regards of 'the subject of criticism', 'the ground of criticism', 'the attribution of criticism'. While the program mostly focused on the problems of political bias and unfairness in the early stage, the focus of criticism moved to the problems of sensationalism and superficial reporting laster. This study discussed that the change of criticism might have a relation with the change of KBS governance.

A Study on the Development of Personality Education Program Using Media in Middle School (미디어 활용 중학교 인성교육 프로그램 개발 연구)

  • This study was conducted to understand media and cultivate personality by using media as data for personality education. To achieve this purpose, the Personality Education Promotion Act and the Korea Educational Development Institute's personality virtues were selected as educational elements, and a personality education program using media was developed in combination with the middle school curriculum. For this study, first, in order to extract personality virtues, 13 personality virtues were finally selected as educational elements by comparing and synthesizing the personality virtues of the Personality Education Promotion Act and the Korea Education Development Institute. The final personality virtues selected are self-esteem, courage, sincerity, self-regulation, wisdom, consideration, communication, courtesy, social responsibility, cooperation, citizenship, justice, and respect for human rights. Second, in order to select media and set the direction of development of personality education programs, the process of collecting media data was confirmed, and the direction and goal of the program were set by analyzing the middle school curriculum. Third, in order to propose a method of applying a personality education program using media, the personality grafting unit was selected by referring to the commentary on all subjects of the 2015 revised curriculum.

  • The recent broadcasting environment has shifted to embrace multimedia and multi-channel features through terrestrial, satellite and cable media. This has multiplied the number of broadcasting programs. With the information on a myriad of programs provided to TV viewers, information overload occurs, and thus, the TV viewing environment is shifting to one where viewers cannot select programs passively. Thus, a growing need is emerging to ensure a personalized electronic program guide (EPG) to help individuals select TV programs according to their taste. This paper presents a personalized EPG that enables a purpose-oriented broadcasting service to provide personalized broadcasting programs in tune with the user's requirements and preferences.

The Effects of Media Literacy-focused Sex Education Program on Teachers (교사에게 적용한 미디어 리터러시 중심 성교육 프로그램의 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was aimed to examine the effects of sexual education programs focusing on media literacy on teachers as a pilot study. Methods: This study is a quasi-experimental study and a total of 81 teachers (intervention n=42, control n=39) participated. Results: A sexual education program focusing on media literacy was conducted in the form of an 18-hour structured education module. The results were mainly assessed by measuring the teachers' pre- and post-study awareness and self-efficacy related to sexual media literacy. Awareness related to sexual media literacy of the intervention group (86.3) showed greater improvement than that of the control group (76.8). Also, self-efficacy related to sexual media literacy among the intervention group (20.1) showed greater improvement than that of the control group (17.4). Conclusion: The results highlight the effects of sexual education programs focusing on media literacy, which can improve teachers' competence in sexual education.

Studies on the Demands of Development Program of Silver Industrial Professionals in the Northern Gyeonggi-do Area (경기 북부 실버관리인력 양성 과정에 관한 수요도 조사)

  • The principal objective of this study was to assess the demands of the development program of silver health care professionals for elderly individuals residing in the Northern Gyeonggi-do area. To this end, a survey was conducted to investigate college students and employees related with elderly individuals in the area regarding their recognition, interest, and involvement in the labor training program. In the case of college students, the health education they had received was only 1 to 2 hours, from a school lecture(35%). The content of health education they desired was exercise(34%) and stress management skills(28%). The sources of health information they received included mass media(77%) and the internet(12%), and they trusted the information they received from health professionals(45%), and the mass media(34%). In the case of health professionals who were working at silver care facilities, the sources of health information to which they had access were mass media(51%), internet(14%), reliable health professionals(56%), mass media(22%), and books related to health (18%). The principal issues they reported as being relevant to the elderly were dementia(39%), hypertension(14%), arthritis (11%), and they reported that the most important personnel for elderly in the future would be care managers(44%), and care helpers(21%). 88% of subjects believed that there was a need for a silver welfare integrated information system. 43% of subjects used the internet, 77% of them required in-service training programs for the welfare of the elderly. Via this developmental program of silver health care professionals, a variety of new job opportunities can be provided in the future, and a program related to the silver service industry must be established as soon as possible.

Effects of a Prevention Program for Media Addiction on Television Addiction, Internet Addiction, Cellular Addiction, and Impulsiveness in Elementary School Students (매체 중독 예방 프로그램이 초등학생의 텔레비전 중독, 인터넷 중독, 휴대전화 중독 및 충동성에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop a prevention program for media addiction in elementary school students, and to examine its effects on television addiction, internet addiction, cellular phone addiction, and impulsiveness. Methods: The study was designed using a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The participants were 58 elementary school students (29 in the experimental group and 29 in the control group). Students in the experimental group were given the prevention program for media addiction. The data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 19.0 program. Results: Students in the experimental group reported a significant decrease in television addiction compared to students in the control group. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that the prevention program for media addiction was effective in decreasing television addiction in elementary school students.

  • 대용량의 네트워크 인프라가 확대되고, 네트워크를 통한 DV, HD 급의 고화질 비디오 전송이 보편화 되면서, 고화질의 비디오에 몰입감, 현실감을 증진시키기 위한 스테레오 HD 비디오 전송이 가능하게 되었다. 본 논문은 IP 네트워크를 통해서 스테레오 HD 비디오 전송을 가능하게 해주는 소프트웨어 기반의 HD 비디오 전송 시스템에서 효과적으로 몰입감과 입체감을 제공하기 위해 충족되어야 하는 좌우 영상의 동기화에 필요한 요소들을 다룬다. 제안된 동기화 기법은 수신 측에서 최종적으로 동기화된 좌우 영상을 통해 스테레오 HD 비디오를 얻기 위해서 좌우 카메라로부터 영상의 획득 시, 획득된 영상의 네트워크 전송 시, 또 수신된 영상의 재생 시 좌우 영상의 동기화한다. 결과적으로 동기화 된 좌우 영상을 통하여 몰입감과 현실감을 가지는 스트레오 HD 비디오를 실시간으로 감상할 수 있다.
