A Study on the Design of a New Web Guiding Mechanism Using a Tilting Roller (롤의 웹 표면 수직방향 기울임을 이용한 새로운 웹 가이더 설계에 관한 연구)

  • The alignment of the rollers carrying the web is found to be one of important factors to the lateral behavior of the moving web and to the quality of the final web products. But, the perfect alignment of the rollers is not always possible and the web itself can be cambered. Thus the control of lateral behavior of the moving web is critical in the most of web handling systems. The web guiding system that adjusts the angle of the alignment between two adjacent rollers is commonly used in industry. But, in this paper a new web guiding system is proposed by using the lateral dynamics of the moving web induced by a tilted roller in normal direction of a web. The computer simulation study was carried out to verify the steering performance of the suggested guiding system. Computer simulation study shows that the performance of the new guiding mechanism is better than that of an existing guiding mechanism.

  • For agile production methods, manufacturing system requires development of a motion controller which has flexibility of general-purpose motion controller and productivity of specialized-purpose one. In this study we developed a flowchart programming development environment for motion language and process control. A controller designed on this environment can be used as a general purpose motion controller of a machine tool. Design of control programming based on a flowchart has the advantages such as reducing the programming time and improving intuitiveness of interface for users.   • With the development of precision manufacturing technologies, the importance of precision positioning devices is increasing. Conventional actuators, dual stage or mechanically contacting type, have limitation in coping with performance demands. As a possible solution, magnetic suspension technology was studied. Such a contact-free system has advantages in terms of high accuracy, low production cost and easy adaptability to high precision manufacturing processes. This paper deals with magnetically suspended multi-degrees of freedom actuator which can realize large linear motion. In this paper, the operating principle is explained with the magnetic force analysis, and the equations of motion are derived. Experimental results of the implemented system are also given.

  • Nowadays, flat-shaped cover glass is widely used for mobile devices. However, for its good design and convenience of use, curved cover glass has been demanded. Thus, many companies have tried to produce curved cover glass through the shaving technique, but the production efficiency is very low. Therefore, the molding technique has been adopted to increase the efficiency for the curved-glass production system. For a glass-molding system, several heating blocks are installed, and the flat cover glass is sequentially heated and molded. The production time for the cover glass is very different depending on the heating conditions; thus, the prediction of the production time for different heating conditions should be needed. Therefore, in this study, the computations were performed with different heating conditions (uniform and non-uniform) in the present cover glass-molding machine. For uniform and non-uniform heating conditions, the simple correlation between the heating time and the heater capacity and the heating time to achieve higher durability can be suggested, respectively.

  • In the shipbuilding industry, three-dimensional (3D) templates play a key role in the completeness evaluation of shell plates with a large curvature in the shell-plate fabrication process. Currently, the information of 3D templates from a ship computer-aided design system is limited; thus, manufacturers depend on their experience to produce the templates manually. This results in the inaccuracy of templates in addition to increased production time. Therefore, if the pieces of the 3D templates can be produced automatically with accurate information, the lead time of the fabrication process can be reduced. In this study, we define a new type of template piece and develop methods for extending a boundary template and converting manufacturing information into numerical control machine input. In addition, based on the results of the study, we propose a production automation system for 3D template pieces. This system is expected to reduce the lead time of the fabrication process.

  • An open loop vibrational control of underactuated mechanical systems with amplitude and frequency modulations is investigated. The underactuated systems considered in the paper are assumed to have free joints with no brake. The active joints are positioned first by a linearizing control, and then periodic oscillatory inputs are applied to them to move the remaining free joints to their desired states. A systematic way of obtaining averaged systems for the underactuated systems with oscillatory vibrations is developed. A complete solution to the open loop control strategy in terms of determining amplitudes and frequencies for general system is still under investigation. However, a specific control design for 2R manipulator which is obtained the averaging system is demonstrated.

  • Almost all injection molds have multi-cavity runner system for mass production, which are designed with geometrically balanced runner system in order to accomplish filling balance between cavity to cavity during processing. However, even though geometrically balanced runner is used, filling imbalance have been observed. Filling imbalance could be decreased by modifying processing conditions such as injections rate, mold temperature, injection pressure, melt temperature that are related to shear, viscosity. In this study, a series of experiment was conducted to investigate filling imbalance variation when modifying runner layout and polymer and to determine which processing condition influences as the primary cause of filling imbalance in geometrically balanced runner system.

  • Recently, LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) has been replaced by OLDE (Organic Light Emitting Diode) in high resolution display industry. In the process of OLDE production, it inspects defective products by sending a signal using a probe during OLED panel inspection. At this time, the cause of the detection of failure is divided into two. One is the self-defect of the OLED panel and the other is the poor contact occurring in the process of contact between the two. The second case is unknown at the time of testing, which increases the time for retesting. To this end, we made a system that can identify in real time whether the probe is in contact during the inspection. A contact probe unit was designed for the system, and a stage system was implemented. An inspection system was constructed through S / W and circuit configuration for actual inspection. Finally, a system that can check contact and non-contact in real time was constructed.

  • In this research, we are trying to develop the new hydraulic driven tire roller which is conventionally operated by mechanical transmission system. The reason why we would like to develop it is that tire roller is one of the most useful machine for the road construction site and also imported totally from overseas. In this paper, we conceptualize the new hydraulic system and derive the equations of motion for dynamic analysis. And we investigate system modeling by using DAQ system. Finally, we will design the controller, which can manage the hydraulic circuit of steering and traction mechanism system. The advent of modern high-speed computers coupled with the application of high-fidelity simulation technology can be used to create “virtual prototypes of construction equipment. Tests conducted on these virtual prototypes may be used to augment actual machine testing, thereby lowering costs and shortening time to production. So, we studied tire roller to integrate development technology. In System Analysis, We formulate hydraulic driving system model and hydraulic steering system model. Also, We integrate DAQ system to acquire experimental result in real tire roller equipment.

  • The machine vision has been applied to a number of industrial applications for quality control and automations to improve the manufacturing processes. In this paper, the automation system using the machine vision is developed, which is applicable to the marking process in a steel production process line. The working environment is very harsh to workers so that the automatic system in the steel industry is required increasingly. The developed automatic marking system consists of several mechanical and electrical elements such as the laser position detecting sensor system for a structured laser beam which is projected to the billet in order to detect the geometry of the billet. An image processing algorithm has been developed to percept the two center positions of a camera and a billet, respectively, and to align two centers. A series of experiments has been conducted to investigate the performance of the proposed algorithm. The results show that two centers of the camera and the billet could be detected very well and differences between two center positions could be also decreased via the proposed tracking algorithm.
