  • The Purpose of this study is to detect morphological changes of the maxilla following the operation of paranasal sinuses in the orthopantomogram. 1) The measurement of the angle set up by two reference lines which represent posterior aspect of the maxilla and skull base was made. 2) The mean angle in the post-operative patients showed significantly smaller than that in the normal subjects. 3) The forms of posterior aspect of maxilla were classified into 5 types. (flat, convex, concave, uneven and obliterated.) 4) In contrast with the convex type in the majority of normal subjects, approximately half of the post-operative patients showed the concave type. 5) These results may suggest that the superior part of the posterior aspect of the maxilla tend to depress following the operation of these paranasal sinuses.

Synthesis of PSSQs Siloxane Resin Polymer Using Monomolecular Fluoro Silane

  • Herein, resin-formed polysilsesquioxanes (PSSQs) were synthesized using monomolecular fluoro silane as a precursor. The synthesized PSSQs exhibited anti-smudge performance and were used as coating liquid. Two structures were acquired by controlling the amount of the silane precursor and the K2CO3 catalyst; these materials were used to prepare the anti-smudge coating liquid solution. The synthesized product was analyzed by various methods such as nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, gel permeation chromatography, and water contact angle measurement. The results confirmed that the as-synthesized PSSQs exhibited the ladder structure and had a molecular weight of 5,117 g/mol and water contact angle of 102.31°.

Synthesis of N-doped Ethylcyclohexane Plasma Polymer Thin Films with Controlled Ammonia Flow Rate by PECVD Method

  • In this study, we investigated the basic properties of N-doped ethylcyclohexene plasma polymer thin films that deposited by radio frequency (13.56 MHz) plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) method with controlled ammonia flow rate. Ethylcyclohexene was used as organic precursor with hydrogen gas as the precursor bubbler gas. Additionally, ammonia ($NH_3$) gas was used as nitrogen dopant. The as-grown polymerized thin films were analyzed using ellipsometry, Fourier-transform infrared [FT-IR] spectroscopy, UV-Visible spectroscopy, and water contact angle measurement. We found that with increasing plasma power, film thickness is gradually increased while optical transmittance is drastically decreased. However, under the same plasma condition, water contact angle is decreased with increasing $NH_3$ flow rate. The FT-IR spectra showed that the N-doped ethylcyclohexene plasma polymer films were completely fragmented and polymerized from ethylcyclohexane.

A Study on Rubbing-induced Molecular Alignment on an Orientation Layer of Polyimide for Liquid Crystal Display (LCD의 폴리이미드 배향막에서 Rubbing에 의한 분자배향에 관한 연구)

  • To elucidate the liquid crystal(LC) molecules alignment mechanism, it is important to determine the molecular orientation of the rubbed polymer surface molecules that directly contact with LC molecules. In this work, the molecular orientation on a rubbed surface of polyimide (SE-3310, Nissan) film has been studied by polarized FTIR absorption spectroscopy. It has been found that molecular chain on the rubbed surface of polymide film are oriented along the rubbing direction and are tilted up on an average by 5.0$^{\circ}$. In the SHG(Second Harmonic Generation) measurement, the pretilt angle of molecular chain on the poylmide fim was 4.6$^{\circ}$ fro, the surface plane. And the pedit angle of liquid crystal (ZLI-2293, Merck) molecules measured by crystal rotation method was 5.4$^{\circ}$in the same rubbing condition.

  • The SiOC film of carbon centered system was prepared using bistrimethylsilylmethane and oxygen mixed precursor by the chemical vapor deposition. The chemical properties of the SiOC film were analyzed by the I-V measurement and FTIR spectra. The main bond of 950~1200 cm-1 was composed of the Si-C, Si-O-C and Si-O bonds. The leakage current of the SiOC film increased with the increasing of the carbon content, and the drift of the current was similar to the Si-O-C bond content.

Distribution of Tropical Tropospheric Ozone Determined by the Scan-Angle Method applied to TOMS Measurements

  • This study introduces the first method that determines tropospheric ozone column directly from a space-based instrument. This method is based on the physical differences in the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) measurement as a function of its scan-angle geometry. Tropospheric ozone in September-October exhibits a broad enhancement over South America, the southern Atlantic Ocean, and western South Africa and a minimum over the central Pacific Ocean. Tropical tropospheric ozone south of the equator is higher than north of the equator in September-October, the southern burning season. Conversely, ozone north of the equator is higher in March, the northern burning season. Overall, the ozone over the southern tropics during September-October is significantly higher than over the northern tropics. Abnormally high tropospheric ozone occurs over the western Pacific Ocean during the El Nino season when the ozone amounts are as high as the ozone over the Africa.

  • We prepared Co-Cr-Ta and Co-Cr-Ta/Ti thin film for perpendicular magnetic recording media by facing targets sputtering system (FTS system). Ti underlayer effects on crystallographic and magnetic characteristics of Co-Cr-Ta perpendicular magnetic recording media have been investigated. Crystallgraphic and magnetic characteristic of prepared thin films were evaluated by x-ray diffractometry(XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM) and kerr hysteresis loop measurement. The coercivity and anisotropy field increase by introduced Ti underlayer when substrate temperature is higher than 150$^{\circ}C$. The c-axis dispersion angle and grain size of Co-Cr-Ta/Ti thin film is decrease than Co-Cr-Ta when substrate temperature is higher than 100$^{\circ}C$. Consequently, the use of a Ti underlayer highly orientated can be improved crystallographic and magnetic characteristics of Co-Cr -Ta perpendicular media layer.

  • The effect of accelerated weathering(UV) on three type of ethylene propylene diene monomer(EPDM) composite used for higher voltage insulator were investigated by weather-emoter. For weatherability of EPDM composite, surface resistance, dielectric breakdown strength, change of contact angle, surface composition were measured according to UV accelerated weathering time. From the resort of the measurement of surface resistivity, contact angle of EPDM composite decreased and showed chalking and cracking phenomenon when UV weathweing time was for 1500 h and 2000 h. The analysis of surface atomic composition indicated that surface aluminiu(Al) content was detected due to chalking phenomenon after 1500 h of UV weathering, Oxygen content of all composite increased due to the oxidation.

  • Crystalline order and surface stability of 1,4,5,8,9,11-hexaazatriphenylene-hexanitrile (HATCN) thin films on organic surface were investigated using grazing incidence wide angle x-ray scattering and x-ray reflectivity measurements. In the initial growth regime (less than 20 nm), HATCN molecules were stacked to low crystalline order with substantial amorphous phase. Meanwhile, a thicker film with 50 nm thickness showed high crystalline order of hexagonal phase with three different orientational domains. The domain distribution was quantitatively obtained as a function of tilted angle. By an organic-inorganic interface formation of IZO/HATCN thin film from an indium zinc oxide (IZO) electrode deposition, the surface stability of HATCN film was investigated and the sharp interface was confirmed by the x-ray reflectivity measurement.

  • In general, in order to operate an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) in an underwater environment, a navigation system such as a Doppler Log (DVL) using a Doppler phenomenon of ultrasonic waves is used for speed and direction estimation. However, most of the ultrasonic sensors in underwater is large for long-distance sensing and the cost is very high. In this study, not only canal neuromast on the fish's lateral lines but also superficial neuromast are studied on the simulation to obtain pressure values for each pressure sensor, and the obtained pressure data is supervised using spherical CNN. To this end, through supervised learning using pressure data obtained from a pressure sensor attached to an underwater vehicle, we can estimate the speed and angle of the underwater vehicle in a quasi-static underwater environment and propose a method for a non-ultrasonic based navigation system.
