  • In this article, we study rotation surfaces in the 4-dimensional pseudo-Euclidean space E$_2$$^4$. Also, we obtain the complete classification theorems for the flat rotation surfaces with finite type Gauss map, pointwise 1-type Gauss map and an equation in terms of the mean curvature vector. In fact, we characterize the flat rotation surfaces of finite type immersion with the Gauss map and the mean curvature vector field, namely the Gauss map of finite type, pointwise 1-type Gauss map and some algebraic equations in terms of the Gauss map and the mean curvature vector field related to the Laplacian of the surfaces with respect to the induced metric.

  • Consider the problem of estimating a $p{\times}1$ mean vector ${\underline{\theta}}(p{\geq}4)$ under the quadratic loss, based on a sample ${\underline{x}_{1}},\;{\cdots}{\underline{x}_{n}}$. We find an optimal decision rule within the class of Lindley type decision rules which shrink the usual one toward the mean of observations when the underlying distribution is that of a variance mixture of normals and when the norm ${\parallel}\;{\underline{\theta}}\;-\;{\bar{\theta}}{\underline{1}}\;{\parallel}$ is known, where ${\bar{\theta}}=(1/p){\sum_{i=1}^p}{\theta}_i$ and $\underline{1}$ is the column vector of ones.

  • In this paper the one of image hide method for good compression ratio and satisfactory image quality of the cover image and the embedding image based on the singular value decomposition and the vector quantization using fuzzy c-mean clustering is introduced. Experimental result shows that the embedding image has invisibility and robustness to various serious attacks.

  • In the treatment of the sequential beta-protection procedure, we define the reasonable stopping time and investigate that for the stopping time Wijsman's requirements, coverage probability and beta-protection conditions, are satisfied in the estimation for the mean vector ${\mu}$ by the sample from the multivariate normal distributed population with unknown mean vector ${\mu}$ and a positive definite variance-covariance matrix ${\Sigma}$.

  • We develop an invariant local theory of Lorentz surfaces in pseudo-Euclidean 4-space by use of a linear map of Weingarten type. We find a geometrically determined moving frame field at each point of the surface and obtain a system of geometric functions. We prove a fundamental existence and uniqueness theorem in terms of these functions. On any Lorentz surface with parallel normalized mean curvature vector field we introduce special geometric (canonical) parameters and prove that any such surface is determined up to a rigid motion by three invariant functions satisfying three natural partial differential equations. In this way we minimize the number of functions and the number of partial differential equations determining the surface, which solves the Lund-Regge problem for this class of surfaces.

  • We studied this experiment to compare the effects of exercise and other body conditions: i.e., Flack test, cold pressor test and bicycle ergometry on the electrocardiogram. We had sixty healthy college students who were thirty nine men and twenty one women. Their $mean{\pm}SD$ values of physical characteristics were as follows: age; $22.0{\pm}1.4$, weight; men $61.7{\pm}5.6\;kg$, women $46.2{\pm}7.47\;kg$. We observed the changes of P-Q and Q-T interval, R and T amplitude, mean QRS vector, S-T segment deviation, and P and T vector. The result obtained were summarized as follows: P vector was shifted rightward regardless of the type of stress. T vector was shifted var-in each stress but in the bicycle ergometry T vector was shifted leftward. Mean QRS vector was shifted rightward immediately after the bicycle ergometry. Percentage of the occurrence of the depression of S-T segment was 21.7% at the immediately after the submaximal bicycle ergometry in lead II. The elevation of S-T segment was often observed after the mild stresses. Increased amplitude of T wave in the cold pressor test and decreased amplitude of T wave in the bicycle ergometry were observed. In the bicycle ergometry and other stresses, the precise mechanism of S-T segment changes was unexplained but insufficient repolarization in base or apex of the left ventricle due to heart strain was indicated by so called S-T vector analysis.

  • This study compared the plywood demand prediction accuracy of econometric and vector autoregressive models using Korean data. The econometric model of plywood demand was specified with three explanatory variables; own price, construction permit area, dummy. The vector autoregressive model was specified with lagged endogenous variable, own price, construction permit area and dummy. The dummy variable reflected the abrupt decrease in plywood consumption in the late 1990's. The prediction accuracy was estimated on the basis of Residual Mean Squared Error, Mean Absolute Percentage Error and Theil's Inequality Coefficient. The results showed that the plywood demand prediction can be performed more accurately by econometric model than by vector autoregressive model.

  • Consider the problem of estimating a $p{\times}1$ mean vector ${\theta}$ (p ${\geq}$ 3) under the quadratic loss from multi-variate normal population. We find a James-Stein type estimator which shrinks towards the projection vectors when the underlying distribution is that of a variance mixture of normals. In this case, the norm ${\parallel}{\theta}-K{\theta}{\parallel}$ is known where K is a projection vector with rank(K) = q. The class of this type estimator is quite general to include the class of the estimators proposed by Merchand and Giri (1993). We can derive the class and obtain the optimal type estimator. Also, this research can be applied to the simple and multiple regression model in the case of rank(K) ${\geq}2$.

  • We consider transmission beamforming techniques for frequency-division-duplex (FDD) wireless communication systems using adaptive arrays to improve the signal quality of the array transmission link. We develop a simple effective transmission beamforming technique based on an approximated frequency tranlsation (AFT) to derive the tranmsiion beamforming weights from the uplink channel vector. This technique exploits the invariance of the short-time averaged fast fading statistics to small frequency translations. A simple approximate relationship that relates the transmission channel vector to the reception channel vector is derived. We have developed its practical alternative in which the frequency translation of the channel vector is performed at the principal angle of arrival (AOA) of the u;link synthestic angular spectrum instead of the mean AOA. To analyze the performance of the proposed methods, we consider the power loss incurred by applying the estimated channel vector instead of the true downlink channel vector. The performance is analyzed as a function of the mean AOA, the angular spread, the number of elements, frequncy difference between the uplink and the downlink, and the angle distribution. Their performance is also compared with that of the direct weight reuse method and the AOA based methods.

  • Least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) is a kernel trick gaining a lot of popularities in the regression and classification problems. We use LS-SVM to propose a iterative algorithm for a nonlinear generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity model in the mean (GARCH-M) model to estimate the mean and the conditional volatility of stock market returns. The proposed method combines a weighted LS-SVM for the mean and unweighted LS-SVM for the conditional volatility. In this paper, we show that nonlinear GARCH-M models have a higher performance than the linear GARCH model and the linear GARCH-M model via real data estimations.
