  • Purpose: Mefenamic acid (MEF) as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug is used as a medication for relieving of pain and inflammation. Radiation-induced inflammation process is involved in DNA damage and cell death. In this study, the radioprotective effect of MEF was investigated against genotoxicity induced by ionizing radiation in human blood lymphocytes. Materials and Methods: Peripheral blood samples were collected from human volunteers and incubated with MEF at different concentrations (5, 10, 50, or $100{\mu}M$) for two hours. The whole blood was exposed to ionizing radiation at a dose 1.5 Gy. Lymphocytes were cultured with mitogenic stimulation to determine the micronuclei in cytokinesis blocked binucleated lymphocyte. Results: A significant decreasing in the frequency of micronuclei was observed in human lymphocytes irradiated with MEF as compared to irradiated lymphocytes without MEF. The maximum decreasing in frequency of micronuclei was observed at $100{\mu}M$ of MEF (38% decrease), providing maximal protection against ionizing radiation. Conclusion: The radioprotective effect of MEF is probably related to anti-inflammatory property of MEF on human lymphocytes.

  • Background: Although radiotherapy is one of the most effective strategies in the treatment of cancers, it is associated with short and long term side effects on normal tissues. Zataria multiflora Boiss (Laminacea) (ZM) has several biological properties such as antioxidant and anti-inflammation activities. Here we investigated cell killing effects of a hydroalcoholic Zataria multiflora extract on cell death induced by ionizing radiation in a human glioblastoma cell line (A172) and human non-malignant fibroblasts (HFFF2) in vitro. Materials and Methods: A172 and HFFF2 cells were treated with a hydroalcoholic extract of dried aerial parts of Zataria multiflora at different concentrations (25, 50, 100, 150 and $200{\mu}g/ml$) and then exposed to ionizing radiation (IR). Cell proliferation and DNA fragmentation were evaluated. Thymol content in the extract was analyzed and quantified by HPLC methods. Results: A172 cell proliferation was significantly inhibited by ZM. The percentage cell survival was $91.8{\pm}8.57$ for cells treated with $200{\mu}g/ml$ of ZM extract alone while it was $76.0{\pm}4.27$ and $66.2{\pm}8.42$ for cells treated with ZM and exposed to IR at doses of 3Gy and 6Gy, respectively. Radiation-induced apoptosis in A172 cells was significantly increased following treatment with ZM at doses of $200{\mu}g/ml$. ZM extract did not exhibit any enhanced cell killing effects and apoptosis caused by IR on HFFF2 cells. Conclusions: These data show selective radiosensitization effects of ZM in A172 cells apparently due to increased radiation-induced apoptosis.

  • Objective: Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a form of obsessive-compulsive disorder that may be negatively associated with the self-image. It might be associated with orthodontic treatment demand and outcome, and therefore is important. Thus, this study was conducted. Methods: The Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale modified for Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD-YBOCS) questionnaire was used in 699 orthodontic patients above 12 years of age (222 males, 477 females), at seven clinics in two cities (2020-2021). BDD diagnosis and severity were calculated based on the first 3 items and all 12 items of the questionnaire. The dental health component of the index of orthodontic treatment need (IOTN-DHC) was assessed by orthodontists. Multivariable and bivariable statistical analyses were performed on ordinal and dichotomized BDD diagnoses to assess potentially associated factors (IOTN-DHC, age, sex, marital status, education level, and previous orthodontic consultation) (α = 0.05). Results: IOTN-DHC scores 1-5 were seen in 13.0%, 39.9%, 29.8%, 12.4%, and 4.9% of patients. Age/sex/marital status/education were not associated with IOTN-DHC (p > 0.05). Based on 3-item questionnaire, 17.02% of patients had BDD (14.02% mild). Based on 12-item questionnaire, 2.86% had BDD. BDD was more prevalent or severer in females, married patients, patients with a previous history of orthodontic consultation, and patients with milder IOTN-DHCs (p < 0.05). Conclusions: IOTNDHC was negatively/slightly associated with BDD in orthodontic patients. Being female and married may increase BDD risk.

  • In this paper, differential transform method (DTM) is considered to obtain solution to the generalized Fisher's equation. This method is easy to apply and because of high level of accuracy can be used to solve other linear and nonlinear problems. Furthermore, is capable of reducing the size of computational work. In the present work, the generalization of the two-dimensional transform method that is based on generalized Taylor's formula is applied to solve the generalized Fisher equation and numerical example demonstrates the accuracy of the present method.

  • N-Bromosaccharin/$Mg(ClO_4)_2$ is an effective and regioselective system for ${\alpha}$-monobromination of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds. A wide variety of ${\beta}$-keto esters and 1,3-diketones in reaction with this system afforded a regioselectively ${\alpha}$-monobrominated products. The bromination reaction can be conducted at 0-5 $^{\circ}C$ either in solution or under solvent-free conditions.

  • We develop an intelligent information system in a multilayer electronic supply chain network. Using the internet for supply chain management (SCM) is a key interest for contemporary managers and researchers. It has been realized that the internet can facilitate SCM by making real time information available and enabling collaboration between trading partners. Here, we propose a multi-agent system to analyze the performance of the elements of a supply network based on the attributes of the information flow. Each layer consists of elements which are differentiated by their performance throughout the supply network. The proposed agents measure and record the performance flow of elements considering their web interactions for a dynamic route selection. A dynamic programming approach is applied to determine the optimal route for a customer in the end-user layer.

  • Web information systems have been utilized extensively over the past decade. The Internet allows for the entire sales cycle to be conducted on one medium, nearly instantaneously. From making the consumer aware of the product to providing additional information to transacting the final purchase, the Internet can accomplish them all. The Internet is like one big point-of-sales display, with easy access to products and the ability for impulse shopping. Here, we point out different aspects of information technology (IT) in marketing. Consequently, we propose two frameworks as decision aids in web-based marketing environment.

  • Recently, Li et al proved that ${\Phi}$ which satisfies the following condition on factor von Neumann algebras $${\Phi}([[A,B]_*,C]_*)=[[{\Phi}(A),B]_*,C]_*+[[A,{\Phi}(B)]_*,C]_*+[[A,B]_*,{\Phi}(C)]_*$$ where $[A,B]_*=AB-BA^*$ for all $A,B{\in}{\mathcal{A}}$, is additive ${\ast}-derivation$. In this short note we show the additivity of ${\Phi}$ which satisfies the above condition on prime ${\ast}-algebras$.

  • In a recent paper, M.A. Noor et al. (Hindawi publishing corporation, Mathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2008, Article ID 696734, 11 pages, doi:10.1155/2008/696734) proposed the variational homotopy perturbation method (VHPM) for solving higher dimentional initial boundary value problems. In this paper, we consider the proposed method for analytic treatment of the linear and nonlinear ordinary differential equations, homogeneous or inhomogeneous. The results reveal that the proposed method is very effective and simple and can be applied for other linear and nonlinear problems in mathematical.

  • A simple and effective procedure for conversion of primary, secondary, allylic and benzylic alcohols into the corresponding iodides is described using $CeCl_3{\cdot}7H_2O/NaI\;over\;SiO_2$ under microwave irradiation. Benzylic alcohols are selectively converted in the presence of saturated alcohols into their corresponding benzylic iodides under these conditions.
