  • This study examined the structural stability of nonlocal magneto-electro-elastic nano plates on elastic foundations using first-order shear deformation theory. Navier's method has been used to solve the buckling loads for all edges simply supported boundary conditions. On the other hand, biaxial buckling analysis of nano-plates has beenrarely studied. According to the Maxwell equation and the magneto-electro boundary condition, the change inthe magnetic and electric potential along the thickness direction of the magneto-electro-elastic nano plate wasdetermined. To reformulate the elasticity theory of the magneto- electro-elastic nano plate, the differential constitutive equation of Eringen was used and the governing equation of the nonlocal elasticity theory was studied using variational theory. The effects of the elastic foundation arebased on Pasternak's assumption. The relationship between nonlocal theory and local theory was analyzed through calculation results. In addition, structural stability problems were investigated according to the electric and magnetic potentials, nonlocal parameters, elastic foundation parameters, and side-to-thickness ratio. The results of the analysis revealedthe effects of the magnetic and electric potential. These calculations can be used to compare future research on new material structures made of magneto-electro-elastic materials.

  • In this paper, the ECT(eddy current testing) signal analysis of eddy current array probe for inspection of SG(steam generator) tube in NPP(nuclear power plant) using electromagnetic FEM(finite element method) was performed. To obtain the electromagnetic characteristics of probes, the governing equation was derived from Maxwell's equation, and the problem was solved by using the 3-dimensional FEM. The types of defects were FBH(flat bottomed hole) and OD groove, Spiral groove, natural defects(pitting, SCC, multiple SCC, wear). The depth of FBH defects were 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100 of SG tube thickness, and it was assumed that the defects were located on the tube outside. And the operation frequency of 100kHz, 300kHz and 400kHz were used. Material of specimen was Inconel 600 which is usually used for SG tubes in NPP. The signal difference could be observed according to the variation of size and depth on FBH defects and operation frequencies. The results in this paper can be helpful when the ECT signals from EC array probe are evaluated and analyzed.

  • The design and analysis of the transversely fed EMC(electromagnetically coupled) microstrip dipole have been accomplished by using the integral equation and MOM(method of moment)in frequency domain in order to find the current distribution of the dipole. In this study, we proposed the possibilities for design and analysis of EMC micro-strip dipole array antenna by means of calculating the current distribution of each dipole directly using the FDTD(finite difference time domain) method. In this case, we applied the formulation which is the finite difference expression of the Maxwell's integral equation. From the current distribution of each dipole, we calculated the far field electric component and showed that the calculation process and running time was reduced with respect to the method which calculates the radiation field with surface electric and magnetic current density.

  • In this paper, a microstrip patch antenna was analyzed by using FDTD method. Firstly, the electric field in the microstrip patch antenna was obtained by approximating a Maxwell's equation to a finite difference equation by means of Yee's algorithm. In this case, Mur's 1st approximation and dispersive boundary condition(BBC) were applied to an absorbing boundary condition. We also analyzed a single microstrip patch antenna by using the FDTD method, then calculating the propagative process in the wave of a return loss. Also, as the result that FDTD was applied to 2-array antenna designed to increase the gain of antenna, the measured results was in relatively good accordance with the values calculated by the FDTD method. The calculated impedance, return loss and VSWR were comparatively good. And these results were In relatively good accordance with the measured values.

  • As the recently advanced scientific developments result in high lever of the usability and the needs for the electrical equipment and devices in various situations, the safety technologies protecting malfunction and electrical critical damages including soft and hardware from the unexpectedly radiated electromagnetic interferences are required gradually. In addition, the numerical analysis for the miniaturized electrical components and equipments as well as the conventional electrical devices installed inside the electrically large enclosures and structures requires the memory requirement and time consumption too big to be handled in a realistic situation, which will result in a limitation in solving the complete set of maxwell's equations. In this paper, PWB method based on statistical theory and topological modeling with appropriate zoning concepts are introduced for the EM analysis of an electrically large complex structures.

  • The computational fluid dynamic analysis has been conducted for the thermo-chemical flow field in an arcjet thruster with mono-propellant Hydrazine (N2H4) as a working fluid. The Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations are modified to analyze compressible flows with the thermal radiation and electric field. the Maxwell equation, which is loosely coupled with the fluid dynamic equations through the Ohm heating and Lorentz forces, is adopted to analyze the electric field induced by the electric arc. The chemical reactions of Hydrazine were assumed to be infinitely fast due to the high temperature field inside the arcjet thruster. The chemical and the thermal radiation models for the nitrogen-hydrogen mixture and optical thick media respectively, were incorporated with the fluid dynamic equations. The results show that performance indices of the arcjet thruster with 1kW arc heating are improved by amount of 180% in thrust and 200% in specific impulse more than frozen flow. In addition thermo-physical process inside the arcjet thruster is understood from the flow field results.

  • The self diffusion distributions of viscoelastic molten polyurethanes were determined from the relationship between the relaxation spectra and the distribution of self diffusion. The relaxation spectra of ester, PCL and PCL dyed type molten polyurethanes were obtained by applying the experimental stress relaxation curves to the theoretical equation of the Ree-Eyring and Maxwell non-Newtonian model(REM model) from computer calculation. The experiments were carried out at various temperatures using the physica rheometer with the temperature controller. The self diffusion and hole distance of amorphous region of polyurethane samples were investigated by experiments of stress relaxation. The diffusion coefficients and hole volumes were calculated from rheological parameters and crystallite size in order to study the diffusion of flow segments in amorphous region. It was observed that the relaxation spectra and self diffusions of these polymer samples are directly related to the distribution of molecular weights, viscosities, hole volumes and activation energies of flow segments.

  • In recent, there have been several developments in lamp technology that promise savings in electrical power consumption and improved quality of the lighting space. Above all, the advantage of ring-shaped electrodeless fluorescent lamp is the removal of internal electrodes and heating filaments that are a light-limiting factor of conventional fluorescent lamps. The ring-shaped electrodeless lamp is intended as a high efficiency replacement for the incandescent reflector lamp in many applications. Therefore, the life time of ring-shaped electrodeless fluorescent lamps is substantially higher than that of conventional fluorescent lamps and last up to 60,000 hours. In this paper, maxwell 3D finite element analysis program(Ansoft) was used to obtain electromagnetic properties associated with the coil and nearby structures. The electromagnetic emitting properties were presented by 3D simulation software operated at 250 KHz and some specific conditions. The optical characteristics were measured luminance and a temperature and an optical spectrum distribution for 10 min in a one minute interval at the same time. With a goal of finding alternative materials, we show measurement results of electrical characteristics of a ring-shaped electrodeless fluorescent lamp as a function of frequency and the number of coil turns using a highly permeable($\mu$$_{r}$(equation omitted) 2,000) Mn-Zn ferrite. These results are compared with those of conventional ring-shaped electrodeless fluorescent lamp. It is found that the resistance, inductance and impedance are increased while the quality factor decreases as frequency increases.s.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of single-phase induction motors is studied using TDFE(Time Domain Finite Element) analysis. The magnetic field equation from the Maxwell's equations is solved using 2-Dimensional TDFE method, and the circuit equations from the stator and rotor are solved simultaneously. The 3-D effects, which are the end-leakage reactance and the resistance of end-rings are considered in 2-D combined equations. The proposed method is applied to the commercial single-phase induction motor. The calculated waveforms of the currents shows a good agreement with the measured ones.

  • This paper is concerned with a computational method for recovering a crack shape of steam generator tubes of nuclear plants. Problems on the shape identification are discussed arising in the characterization of a structural defect in a conductor using data of eddy current inspection. A surface defect on the generator tube ran be detected as a probe impedance trajectory by scanning a pancake type coil. First, a mathematical model of the inspection process is derived from the Maxwell's equation. Second, the input and output relation is given by the approximate model by virtue of the hybrid use of the finite element and boundary element method. In that model, the crack shape is characterized by the unknown coefficients of the B-spline function which approximates the crack shape geometry. Finally, a parameter estimation technique is proposed for recovering the crack shape using data from the probe coil. The computational experiments were successfully tested with the laboratory data.
