  • We designed and fabricated a travelingwave CPW(coplanar waveguide) electrode for LiNbO$_3$ optical modulator. To Investigate the variation of microwave refractive index of these electrodes, we prepared the CPW electrode samples as a function of electrode thickness and measured the TDR and S-parameter. From this results, we could know the electrode conditions of index matching to 2.20 for 1550nm optical wave index for applying LiNbO$_3$ optical modulator and described. Also, we discussed the some properties of CPW electrode for applying LiNbO$_3$ optical modulator.

  • Taylor-Couette flow may appear when the angular velocity is different between two concentric rotating cylinders. This kind of Taylor-vortex flow can be easily seen in lots of engineering problems. In general the geometries of rotating cylinders are generally complex in these cases. In this study, we investigated Taylor-Couette flow when the outer cylinder has the slit along the annulus. The radius ratio and aspect ratio of the experimental model used was 0.825 and 48, respectively. The depth of slits is 5mm and total 18 slits are azimuthally located along the inner wall of outer cylinder. We used PIV method to measure the flow and applied index matching method to resolve the complex geometry effect. The results show the model with slit has no stable wavy vortex region above Re=143.

  • We have constructed a disp1acerrent sensor for measuring dynamic magnetostriction of an arrvrphous ribbon under alternating magnetic field using fiber optic Fabry-Perot interferorreter. The signal of the sensor was depen¬dent on the index matching oil and the optical isolator. The resolution of the sensor was $30{\AA}$ and the measured peak to peak magnetostriction of the amorphous ribbon $Fe_{81}B_{13.5}Si_{3.5}C_{2}$ was $28{\times}10^{-6}$.

  • The effect of axial slit wall of outer cylinder on Taylor-Couette flow was experimentally investigated. The axial slits were azimuthally located along the inner wall of outer cylinder and the number of slits was 6, 9 and 18. The radius ratio and aspect ratio of the experimental models was 0.825 and 48, respectively. We used PIV method to measure the flow field and applied refractive index matching method to resolve the image distortion due to the complex model geometry. The results showed the effect of slit on the flow transition is increased as the number of slit increased. When the model has 6 slits, there were hardly the effect of axial slit wall and the flow transition happened at the same Reynolds number of plain smooth wall model case.

We used PIV method to measure the flow field and applied refractive index matching method to resolve the image distortion due to the complex model geometry. The results showed the axial slit did not affect the transition from laminar Couette flow to Taylor vortex. The effect of slit wall appeared when the Reynolds number is larger than Re=143 and the slit model shows the transition to turbulent Taylor vortex flow above Re=143.

  • Optical parametric oscillator(OPO) has been used to generate coherent and tunable laser source with birefringent phase-matching technique in various nonlinear materials. In birefringent phase-matching, the output wavelength is controlled with angle or temperature tuning of the refractive index. However these tuning methods have several limitations such as restriction of tuning wavelength due to reasonable angular and temperature tuning ranges, Poynting vector walk-off which limits the interaction length, and thermal stabilization time. • Purpose: The aim is to study the dependence of deformable based auto-segmentation of head and neck organs-at-risks (OAR) on anatomy matching for a single atlas based system and generate an acceptable set of contours. Methods: A sample of ten patients in neutral neck position and three atlas sets consisting of ten patients each in different head and neck positions were utilized to generate three scenarios representing poor, average and perfect anatomy matching respectively and auto-segmentation was carried out for each scenario. Brainstem, larynx, mandible, cervical oesophagus, oral cavity, pharyngeal muscles, parotids, spinal cord, and trachea were the structures selected for the study. Automatic and oncologist reference contours were compared using the dice similarity index (DSI), Hausdroff distance and variation in the centre of mass (COM). Results: The mean DSI scores for brainstem was good irrespective of the anatomy matching scenarios. The scores for mandible, oral cavity, larynx, parotids, spinal cord, and trachea were unacceptable with poor matching but improved with enhanced bony matching whereas cervical oesophagus and pharyngeal muscles had less than acceptable scores for even perfect matching scenario. HD value and variation in COM decreased with better matching for all the structures. Conclusion: Improved anatomy matching resulted in better segmentation. At least a similar setup can help generate an acceptable set of automatic contours in systems employing single atlas method. Automatic contours from average matching scenario were acceptable for most structures. Importance should be given to head and neck position during atlas generation for a single atlas based system.

  • This paper proposes an effective algorithm that combines both the stereo matching and the marching cube algorithm. By applying the stereo matching technique to an image obtained from various angles, 3D geometry data are acquired, and using the camera extrinsic parameter, the images are combined. After reconstructing the combined data into mesh using the image index, the normal vector equivalent to each point is obtained and the mesh smoothing is processed. This paper describes the successive processes and techniques on the 3D mesh reconstruction, and by proposing the intermediate iso- surface algorithm. Therefore it improves the 3D data instability problem caused when using the conventional marching cube algorithm.

  • As a greedy algorithm reconstructing the sparse signal from underdetermined system, orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) algorithm has received much attention in recent years. In this paper, we present an extension of OMP for pursuing efficiency of the index selection. Our approach, referred to as generalized OMP (gOMP), is literally a generalization of the OMP in the sense that multiple (N) columns are identified per step. Using the restricted isometry property (RIP), we derive the condition for gOMP to recover the sparse signal exactly. The gOMP guarantees to reconstruct sparse signal when the sensing matrix satisfies the RIP constant ${\delta}_{NK}$ < $\frac{\sqrt{N}}{\sqrt{K}+2\sqrt{N}}$. In addition, we show recovery performance and the reduced number of iteration required to recover the sparse signal.
