  • ACK generates optimized code using the string pattern matching technique in pattern table generator and peephole optimizer. But string pattern matching method is not effective due to the many comparative actions in pattern selection. We designed and implemented the EM intermediate code optimizer using tree pattern matching algorithm composed of EM tree generator, optimization pattern table generator and tree pattern matcher. Tree pattern matching algorithm practices the pattern matching that centering around root node with refer to the pattern table, with traversing the EM tree by top-down method. As a result, compare to ACK string pattern matching methods, we found that the optimized code effected to pattern selection time, and contributed to improved the pattern selection time by about 10.8%.

  • To make digital terrain data, automatic correlation matching by stereo airborne/satellite images has been researched. The result of automatic correlation matching has a limit on extracting exact ground height because of angle of sensor, tree of height. Therefore, the amount of editing works depend on the distribution of spatial feature in images as well as image quality. This paper shows that the automatic correlation matching result was affected by density and height of tree.

  • Semantic-based information retrieval techniques understand the meanings of the concepts that users specify in their queries, but the traditional semantic matching methods based on the ontology tree have three weaknesses which may lead to many false matches, causing the falling precision. In order to improve the matching precision and the recall of the information retrieval, this paper proposes a multi-agent improved semantic similarity matching algorithm based on the ontology tree, which can avoid the considerable computation redundancies and mismatching during the entire matching process. The results of the experiments performed on our algorithm show improvements in precision and recall compared with the information retrieval techniques based on the traditional semantic similarity matching methods.

  • Pattern matching algorithms are widely used in computer security systems such as computer networks, ubiquitous networks, sensor networks, and so on. However, the advances in information technology causes grow on the amount of data and increase on the computation complexity of pattern matching processes. Therefore, there is a strong demand for a novel high performance pattern matching algorithms. In light of this fact, this paper newly proposes a suffix tree based pattern matching algorithm. The suffix tree is constructed based on the suffix values of all patterns. Then, the shift nodes which informs how many characters can be skipped without matching operations are added to the suffix tree in order to boost matching performance. The proposed algorithm reduces memory usage on the suffix tree and the amount of matching operations by the shift nodes. From the performance evaluation, our algorithm achieved 24% performance gain compared with the traditional algorithm named as Wu-Manber.

  • An energy-efficient object matching accelerator is proposed for mobile object recognition based on matching prediction scheme. Conventionally, vocabulary tree has been used to save the external memory bandwidth in object matching process but involved massive internal memory transactions to examine each object in a database. In this paper, a novel object matching accelerator is proposed based on matching predictions to reduce unnecessary internal memory transactions by mitigating non-target object examinations, thereby improving the energy-efficiency. Experimental results show a 26% reduction in power-delay product compared to the prior art.

  • We propose a new external-memory index data structure, the Suffix B-tree. The Suffix B-tree is a B-tree in which the key is a string like the String B-tree. While the node in the String B-tree is implemented with a Patricia trio, the node in the Suffix B-tree is implemented with an array. So the Suffix B-tree is simpler and easier to be Implemented than the String B-tree. Nevertheless, the branching algorithm of the Suffix B-tree is as efficient as that of the String B-tree. Consequently, the Suffix B-tree takes the same worst-case disk accesses as the String B-tree to solve the string matching problem, which is fundamental and important in the area of string algorithms.

  • This paper reports the application of radiocarbon wiggle matching for Korean wooden artifacts such as furniture and Buddhist statues for precise dating. Ten biannual samples of 20 years (AD 1249-1268) for AMS (accelerator mass spectrometry) radiocarbon measurements were prepared from a board of the pedestal for Buddhist statue at Jeongsusa (temple) in Kangwhado, Korea, which was dendrochronologically dated. The average 95.4% confidence interval of radiocarbon dating without wiggle matching was 123 year. When wiggle matching technique was applied, it became 37 year, 3.3 times smaller than that without wiggle matching. The results indicated that wiggle matching technique using the calibration curve for northern hemisphere (IntCal04: International radiocarbon calibration curve announced in 2004) can produce precise dates for Korean wooden artifacts which possess as much as 20 tree rings.

  • In this paper, we address efficient processing of subsequence matching in time-series databases. We first point out the performance problems occurring in the index searching of a prior method for subsequence matching. Then, we propose a new method that resolves these problems. Our method starts with viewing the index searching of subsequence matching from a new angle, thereby regarding it as a kind of a spatial-join called a window-join. For speeding up the window-join, our method builds an R*-tree in main memory for f query sequence at starting of sub-sequence matching. Our method also includes a novel algorithm for joining effectively one R*-tree in disk, which is for data sequences, and another R*-tree in main memory, which is for a query sequence. This algorithm accesses each R*-tree page built on data sequences exactly cure without incurring any index-level false alarms. Therefore, in terms of the number of disk accesses, the proposed algorithm proves to be optimal. Also, performance evaluation through extensive experiments shows the superiority of our method quantitatively.

  • Recently, the needs for effective real time change detection algorithms for XML/HTML documents and increased in such fields as the detection of defacement attacks to web documents, the version management, and so on. Especially, those applications of real time change detection for large number of XML/HTML documents require fast heuristic algorithms to be used in real time environment, instead of algorithms which compute minimal cost-edit scripts. Existing heuristic algorithms are fast in execution time, but do not provide satisfactory edit script. In this paper, we present existing algorithms XyDiff and X-tree Diff, analyze their problems and propose algorithm X-tree Diff which improve problems in existing ones. X-tree Diff+ has similar performance in execution time with existing algorithms, but it improves matching ratio between nodes from two documents by refining matching process based on the notion of efficiency of matching.
