Background: The use of smokeless tobacco (SLT) among women is increasing in India, especially among those with limited education and resources. Preventing the initiation of SLT among women is critical since it has known negative consequences for oral and reproductive health. Most research on tobacco initiation in India focuses on adolescents. This paper addresses the unrecognized issues of post marital initiation among women of reproductive age, highlighting the importance of reproductive stages in women's tobacco initiation. The objective is to examine the correlates of SLT initiation among low income women in Mumbai from pre-marriage through early marriage, first pregnancy and beyond, using case examples to illustrate initiation during each of these stages. Materials and Methods: In 2011-2012, cross-sectional community level survey data were collected from a representative sample of 409 daily SLT-using married women aged 18-40 years in a low income community in Mumbai. Information on socio-demographics, initiation by reproductive stage, types of tobacco use, childhood exposure to tobacco, learning to use, and initiation influences and reasons were collected through a researcher-administered survey. Univariate and bivariate analysis assessed factors influencing initiation of SLT use by reproductive stage. In addition 42 narratives of tobacco use were collected from a purposive sample of pregnant and non-pregnant married women addressing the same questions in detail. Narratives were transcribed, translated, and coded for key concepts including initiation of tobacco use. Results: Thirty-two percent of women initiated SLT use before marriage, 44% initiated after marriage but before pregnancy, 18.1% initiated during their first pregnancy and the remainder started after their first pregnancy. Mean age of marriage among women in this study was 16 years. Younger women (i.e. age at time of the interview of less than 30 years) were 0.47 [95% CI (0.32, 0.87)] percent less likely to initiate after marriage than women aged more than 30 years. Women who got married before 18 years of age were 2.34 [95% CI (1.40, 3.93)] times more likely to initiate after marriage than their counterparts. Childhood exposure was a predictor for initiating SLT use prior to marriage but not after. Women reporting tooth and gum pain were 1.85 times more likely to initiate after marriage than their counterparts. Husband and neighbours were the most significant influences on post-marital initiation. Narratives highlighted differences in processes of initiation pre and post marriage and during pregnancy. Conclusions: Most tobacco prevention interventions are directed to adolescents in school. This study suggests that especially for low literate or illiterate women, school based interventions are ineffective. To be effective strategies to prevent SLT initiation must reach women in urban areas at or immediately after marriage and during their first pregnancy. Messages must negate culturally rooted beliefs about the health benefits of SLT in order to prevent initiation and onset of daily use.
This paper investigates the meaning and methods of analysis in courtship & marriage narratives songs using the analysed data as the base work for establishing songs using the analysed data as the base work for establishing the digital archive of Korean narrative songs. Initially, this paper presents some samples of the archiving data : types, narrative paragraphs, theme words and outlines of narratives analyzed from 386 versions of courtship & marriage narrative songs in The Comprehensive Collection of Korean Folklore for the purpose of establishing the Korean narrative songs digital archive. Especially, these include specifications of theme words and sequences of narrative paragraphs to look into the syntagmatic and paradigmatic relationship aspects of narrative songs. This archiving method has the advantages of being able to suggest not only the general aspects of the narrative songs, but also the specific in theme words of narrative paragraphs, while the conventional archives are limited to type classification or title search. Therefore, this method overcomes disadvantages that the conventional archives cannot reveal the narrative characteristic or difference which each version has. Subsequently, this paper examines the gender differences, frequency of theme words and comparison of theme words in the related types and the meanings of the analysis examples to find the utility value of the digital archiving data of 'courtship & marriage' narrative songs. The results are as follows; The main recipients of 'courtship and marriage' narrative songs are women, they deal with unusual and shocking events such as 'affairs' or 'death'. Women express their real sufferings and consciousness in the process of courtship and marriage through singing 'courtship & marriage' narrative songs. On the contrary, men mostly focus on the inadequate relationship between unmarried couples and reveal their enjoyment. It will be necessary to expand the scope of this study to clarify the interacting aspects with other narrative genres beyond narrative songs. Therefore, more consistent research efforts are required for this clarification to be satisfactory obtained.
This paper examines the role of gender ideology in early British and American detective fiction focusing on the female detectives. Since a detective's attributes honor and idealize such traditionally masculine qualities as independence, intelligence, heroism, and bravery, the woman detective fiction has potentiality to operate against the established gender norms. The narratives about women in pursuit of justice and order through their criminal investigation can allow women to possess the masculine rationality and power. The subversive possibility inherent in the woman detective fiction is, however, contained by the representation of the female detectives and the negotiation through narratives. A female detective is represented either as unfeminine and thus unattractive and unlikeable or as desperate for survival. Her threatening potentiality is easily dismissed as that of an inadequate woman or a desperate one. The compromise in narratives is effected by the following three ways: first, a female detective is assigned to investigate crimes as an assistant to the male detectives; second, staying within the domestic sphere, she solves crimes by using her expert knowledge of the domestic service; and third, her detective narrative ends with the conventional marriage plot. Confining the female detectives within the conventional feminine roles and domains, the woman detective fiction supports and reestablishes the dominant gender ideology.
This study examines how full-time housewives manage family resources, make decisions, handle pressures, and negotiate the constraints of everyday life in a society that places unrealistic expectations upon them. We approached housewives with an assumption that they are individuals who think, strategize, and solve problems. We also imagined that they are capable of speaking for themselves and making choices under situational and personal limits. Eleven full-time housewives were interviewed on how they experience their marriage, child (or children), family, and society. Their narratives were then analyzed to sort out the strategies the women employ to maintain their identities. The narratives demonstrate the women's will and agency as they work to resolve the contradictions from their daily life, and reveal individual differences in their midst, despite the fact that they had been often considered homogeneous.

Oral-Performance in itself, which successfully narrates one's life, constitutes a kind of decent Verbal arts. The term 'Sijipsali-Narrative' refers to oral narratives portraying a series of events in the course of Women's Life-Story which arise from family life and socio-cultural issues through marriage. As a result, Sijipsali-Narrative belongs to a subcategory of Women's Life-Story. Sijipsali-Narrative can be divided into two categories as follow. One type of Sijipsali-Narrative is the 'Family-Connection sijipsali-narrative,' which results from the relationship between a daughter-in-law and the rest members of the family. Among the 'Family-Connection sijipsali-narratives,' including several forms of Sijipsali such as that of father-in-law and that of husband and that of children, Sijipsali of the mother-in-law is most distinctive. The other type of Sijipsali-Narrative is 'Sociocultural-Connection Sijipsali-narrative', which comes not from human relationship but from general issues a narrator is suffering from as a daughter-in-law in a family. The most universal narrative comes from Sijipsali connected with poverty and historical events, and family history, appearance, attitude of the daughter-in-law and so on can be materials for the narratives. Actually, the two types of Sijipsali narrative is not so much distinguished from each other as intermingled with each other. Sijipsali arising from family relationship can inevitably be related with poverty and some events, which result in conflicts among family members and so harass daughter-in-laws. This thesis has a clear-cut orientation to overview the aspects of the Relationships and Hardships on a 'Sijipsali' Narratives in Korean Women's Married Life.

This study attempted literary therapy approach to establish a healthy identity of Korean married immigrant women by using . The research suggests the difficulties of forming a healthy identity in the process of adaptation of Korean marriage imm6igrants to international marriage, and suggests a literary therapeutic alternative using the narrative structure of Ondal tales. In this study, we used the proven narrative, classical literature, to help the marriage migrant women to develop healthy self - narration, and furthermore, the possibility of reestablishing a healthy identity is centered on their human relations. The research suggests that self-narratives can provide a confidence that a happy life can be managed by providing a literary therapeutic alternative to establish a healthy identity. Through this study, it was positively pointed out that married immigrant women can utilize classical literature in their programs for establishing a healthy identity and that they can have an expected effect on their understanding of Korean culture and Korean language ability.
An increase in the number of immigrants to Korea since the late 1980s' has signified the proliferation of globalization and global capitalism. In Korea, most married immigrants are women, as the culture emphasizes patrilineage and the stability of the institution of marriage, particularly in rural areas. Immigrant women have experienced dual ordeals. The Aogra Internet community in Korea has been one of the most representative sites that has shown the power of communities in cyberspace since 2002, leading the discussion of social issues and deliberative democracy both online and offline. This paper analyzed Koreans' writings (such as long comments) on immigrant women in the Agora community. The analysis revealed the following results: first, immigrant women were referred to using terms related to prostitution, with excessive expression of disgust, which is called a "narrative of identity." Second, anti-multiculturalists called Korean men victims of married immigrant women and expressed hatred toward immigrant women, which is called a "narrative of sacrifice." Third, anti-multiculturalists justified their emotions as just resentment based on ideas of justice, equality, and patriotism, concealing the emotion of disgust, which is called the "narrative of justice, equality." Fourth, antimulticulturalists played roles to spread the emotion of disgust, by repeatedly referring to international marriage fraud and immigrant workers' crimes, which is called "narrative of crime." Fifth, some positive writings on immigrant women were based on empathy(a concept defined in this context by Martha Nussbaum), but they can be analyzed as narratives encouraging cultural integration through the perspective of orientalism. Therefore, comments on immigrant women in the Agora represent a "catch-22" dilemma. To deal with conflicts arising from disgust and violations of human rights, civic education focusing on humanism is needed in this multicultural era.
Remarriages constitute an increasing proportion of all marriage in Korea. In 2005 26.1% of marriages were remarriages for one or both partners. Also, remarriages are more likely to end in divorce than first marriages. This study is conducted to understand how and why the remarriage is ended in divorce in Korea. Seven ex-stepmothers were asked in-depth interview to describe the whole story from courtship to divorce of remarriage. Their narratives were analyzed by a qualitative software program, Nvivo2, which assured us the validity and the reliability of method of the study. Qualitative analysis revealed several major concepts related to the dissolution of remarriage: lack of feeling of love in a motive of marriage, lack of understanding of and preparation for remarriage, fragile tie of remarried couple, frictions between step-children and step-mothers, feeling excluded from family-in-law, and wife battering. The results of the study highlighted that the social work interventions should be actively done in the area of family life education including remarriages and remarried families.
This paper examines the aspect of the novel which appeared in the union of the male and female relationship of "OkSuki", one of the novels of the 19th century. "Oksuki" is a work focusing on the relationship between men and women. It takes a narrative structure based on the relationship. It shows various aspects of the relationship through the structure in which the pluralities of plural persons are repeated. Other events and illustrations, except for the talk, are both an occasion of the alliance and an auxiliary role. At the beginning of the work, the main character's parents are described in detail.By arranging the prophecies related to the relationship between the protagonist and the brothers, it suggests that subsequent narratives will flow into the center of the relationship. The male characters that make up the alliance are characteristically trained and have a good taste, and the Caines are colorfully colored. It is believed that the marriage pattern faithfully follows the medieval status order. The reason why the figure of the person who becomes his wife and the person of the concubine are set differently is because the image of the wife and the concubine are different from each other ideally. The characters who are going to be hungry are emphasized on the clause, efficacy, knowledge, and inner peace, and are actively involved in. On the other hand, conciliatory characters emphasize talent and craftsmanship, and their role is reduced after marriage. The wife is a person who has both Confucian culture and knowledge and is able to care for her husband and family well. Concultation is shaped as a person who can enjoy joyful life and emphasize more affection in relation with his wife.
