Case Study on the Success Factors of NPD Process Transformation : From IT to Automotive Product Development Process (신제품 개발 프로세스 변환의 성공 요인에 관한 사례연구 : IT제품에서 Automotive 제품으로)

  • This paper investigates changing processes of new product development (NPD) systems. In order to continuously develop first-class products, world wide super-class products and hit products, R&D (Research & Development) must be competitive. Firms must achieve competitiveness in terms of quality and cost by launching new products. Most films focus on improving effectiveness and efficiency of NPD process. However, sometimes, they face to the critical challenge of transforming NPD processes entirely reflecting dramatic change of their core products. Transforming of NPD process is difficult in that it involves technological and organizational changes in marketing, R&D, Engineering and manufacturing systems. The purpose of this paper is to shed light on processes and factors affecting successful transformation of new product development systems. We present a case study on the changing processes of S company's NPD process. S company has changed new product development systems successfully from a major IT equipment supplier to an automotive supplier. Empirical results show successful changes of 10 core NPD processes from understanding the market and customers process to after sales process. In case of transformation of NPD, adaption of attribute of business is crucial for success factors in the process innovation. This paper shows the bridging the gap between IT and automotive industrial dynamics and growth through adaption of two processes in the NPD.

  • The industrial revolution 4.0 in general and the trend of the digital economy in particular have affected all aspects of the economy. In the orther hand, Digital Technology has the power to impact the strategies and competitiveness of businesses in the market. It is ever evolving and creating a revolutionary stand for different professions as well. Accounting is considered to be one of the oldest and traditional professions. The rules and methodology of this profession has remained uniform for a long period of time. But due to the advent of the digital technology accounting industry is experiencing some great changes. Challenges for the accounting profession are reflected in the need for rapid adaptation and transformation of business practice and business processes. Gradually it was difficult to manage the accounting of large firms without having any machine help. This profession faced a lot of challenges and required the need to adapt technology. The requirements of finance and digital accounting, as well as the requirements of regional and international financial and accounting integration, require proactive preparation, taking full advantage of the advantages as well as limiting the impacts. disadvantage. Digital Orientation for Emerging Multinationals and the Location Strategies in Internationalization: The Chinese Experience

  • Purpose Despite the ongoing digital transformation, it is not clear whether emerging market firms follow their manufacturing FDI path in the emerging digital industries. This paper examines how digital orientation affects the location strategies in internationalization and how the existing innovation capacities moderate the link between digital orientation and the location strategies. Design/methodology/approach This study chooses the Chinese setting for research design because digital transformation is already prevalent in the society and the cases of outward expansion are salient among the emerging markets. It uses the panel dataset of 976 Chinese listed firms that consists of 6,648 observations spanning from 2007 to 2017. Ordinary least square regression is used for the statistical approach with a one-year lag in the model. Findings Digital orientation increases a likelihood of emerging multinationals' entries in developed countries, and a high level of innovative capacities strengthens the link. Two groups seem to prefer entries in developed countries: firms with a high level of digital orientation with a high level of innovative capacities and firms with a low level of digital orientation, if with a low level of innovative capacities. The former reflects the context of digital transformation and the latter hints at the tax avoidance or interests in real estate. Research implications or originality While emerging multinationals are known to prefer entries in developing countries for capacity arbitrage, our results forecast that their FDI strategies may have a drastic change as digital transformation deepens.

  • The purpose of this study is to test whether prices of personal computers reflect their varying degrees of non-marketable characteristics including after-sales service. This purpose is carried out using the hedonic price model. In this paper, we estimated 74 functional forms of hedonic price model using the quadratic Box-Cox transformation function and selected one based on the three criteria: expected signs, the statistical significance of estimated coefficients, and goodness of fit in terms of root-mean-square-percentage-error. In this study, we found hat as the after-sales service level increases the price of the personal computer increases. This result is consistent with the hypothesis that the less after-sales service offered with a personal computer, the less consumers are willing to pay for the personal computer, when all else remain constant. This finding shows that since the market works indirectly to influence pricing, the need to rely on consumer protection legislation to guarantee after-sales service is lessened. This study also found that after-sales service supported by each personal computer producer is not a free service, thus produces have a profit incentive for providing after-sales service.

On Parameter Estimation of Growth Curves for Technological Forecasting by Using Non-linear Least Squares

  • Growth curves including Bass, Logistic and Gompertz functions are widely used in forecasting the market demand. Nonlinear least square method is often adopted for estimating the model parameters but it is difficult to set up the starting value for each parameter. If a wrong starting point is selected, the result may lead to erroneous forecasts. This paper proposes a method of selecting starting values for model parameters in estimating some growth curves by nonlinear least square method through grid search and transformation into linear regression model. Resealing the market data using the national economic index makes it possible to figure out the range of parameters and to utilize the grid search method. Application to some real data is also included, where the performance of our method is demonstrated.

Policies to Promote Green Economy Innovation in East Asia and North America

  • Although there is progress in developing green sectors in North America and East Asia, the key challenge facing the expansion of economy-wide green innovation and structural change in these regions is the absence of relevant policy follow-up to the green stimulus enacted during the Great Recession. The boost to green sectors provided by such measures is waning quickly, given that much of the green stimulus focused on energy efficiency. The biggest obstacles to sustaining green growth in North America and East Asiaare major market disincentives, especially the under-pricing of fossil fuels and market failures that inhibit green innovation. A three-part strategy to overcome these obstacles would involve: first, removing fossil fuel subsidies; second, employing market-based instruments to further reduce the social costs of fossil fuel use; and third, allocating any resulting revenue to public support for green innovation and investments. Such a strategy would ensure that green growth is not about promoting niche green sectors but instigating economy-wide innovation and structural transformation in North America and East Asia.

Measuring Seasonality in Maldivian Inbound Tourism

  • The tourism sector of the Maldives has seen rapid growth since its inception in 1972. One significant development is the transformation of the market composition in recent years. China has surpassed traditional European markets as the single largest source market. In this regard, this study seeks to assess the seasonality in the Maldivian tourism sector using a monthly dataset of visitor arrivals from 2003 to 2019. The seasonality ratio, the seasonality indicator, the Gini coefficient and the seasonal index were used to examine the seasonality patterns. The results of this study show that there are three distinct peaks (January to April, August, and November to December) and two off-peaks (May to July and September) periods. The findings also reveal that the rise of the Chinese market has significantly lessened the seasonality of Maldivian inbound tourism. Finally, some important implications are discussed.

  • As the utilization of chatbots grows and the AI market grows, many companies are interested. And everybody is spurring growth by offering chatbot build services so that they can create chatbots. This makes chatbots easier to service on the messenger platform, which is changing the existing application market. In this paper, we present a methodology for designing and implementing existing DB-based applications as instant messenger platform-based applications, and summarize what to consider in actual implementation to provide an optimal system structure. According to this methodology, we design and implement a chatbot that serves as an teaching advisor who provides information to the students in the curriculum. The implemented application objectively visualizes the user's desired information from the user's point of view and delivers it through the interactive interface quickly and intuitively.   • Recently, 3DTV and 3D displays have been released in the market. Accordingly, the production of stereoscopic images has gained much interest. Stereoscopic image being composed of left and right images are currently delivered to viewers without any modifications. The researches on the enhancement of depth perception using high-frequency components and the re-production of natural color by color compensation have been carried out for 2D images. The application of such 2D technologies to 3D stereoscopic images is an aim of this paper. This paper proposes the enhancement of 3D perception by color transformation. For this, we propose a stereo matching method for obtaining a depth map and two color transformation methods such as contrast transformation and background darkening. The effectiveness of the proposed method was verified through experiments.

  • In this paper, we investigate industrial product intermediary's transformation strategy by exploiting advantages afforded by web based information technologies. Our motivation for this research stems from exploring intermediary's responding strategy to cope with supplier's threatening to disintermediation. From transaction cost perspective, internet can induce both the vertical quasi-integration (electronic hierarchy) and outsourcing (electronic market). Our rationale on directing one of these bi-directional movements is specified on intermediary's value adding on the supply chain. As such, we investigated supply chain performance, IT effects on customer's requirement of channel functions, and channel power structure. Propositions to suggest contingent e-transforming strategic alternatives are logically derived from dyadic nature of supply chain characteristics such as efficiency versus customer services, and supplier dominant versus easy replaceability of suppliers. The contingent e-transformation framework developed from intermediary's perspective is reviewed through longitudinal industry case analysis. Implications from the industry case analysis give us insights for the effectiveness of the framework to combine supply chain characteristics with intermediary's e-transformation.
