  • AR(Augmented Reality) technology is now easily shown around us with respect to its applicable areas' being spreaded into various shapes since the usage is simply generalized and many-sided. Currently existing camera vision based AR used marker based methods rather than using real world's informations. For the marker based AR technology, there are limitations on applicable areas and its environmental properties that a user could immerse into the usage of application program. In this paper, we proposed a novel AR method which users could recognize objects from the real world's data and the related 3-dimensional contents are also displayed. Those are done using image processing skills and a smart mobile embedded camera for terminal based AR implementations without any markers. Object recognition is done from the comparison of pre-registered and referenced images. In this process, we tried to minimize the amount of computations of similarity measurements for improving working speed by considering features of smart mobile devices. Additionally, the proposed method is designed to perform reciprocal interactions through touch events using smart mobile devices after the 3-dimensional contents are displayed on the screen. Since then, a user is able to acquire object related informations through a web browser with respect to the user's choice. With the system described in this paper, we analyzed and compared a degree of object recognition, working speed, recognition error for functional differences to the existing AR technologies. The experimental results are presented and verified in smart mobile environments to be considered as an alternate and appropriate AR technology.

  • Various interaction techniques have been studied for providing the feeling of touch and improve immersion in augmented reality (AR) environments. Tangible AR interaction exploiting two types (product-type and pointer-type) of simple objects has earned great interest for cost-effective design evaluation of digital handheld products. When the sizes of markers attached to the objects are kept big to obtain better marker recognition, the pointer-type object frequently and significantly occludes the product-type object, which deteriorates natural visualization and level of immersion in an AR environment. In this paper, in order to overcome such problems, we propose tangible AR interaction using fingertip touch combined with small-sized markers. The proposed approach facilitates the use of convex polygons to recover the boundaries of AR markers which are partially occluded. It also properly enlarges the pattern area of each AR marker to reduce the sizes of AR markers without sacrificing the quality of marker detection. We empirically verified the quality of the proposed approach, and applied it in the process of design evaluation of digital products. From experimental results, we found that the approach is comparably accurate enough to be applied to the design evaluation process and tangible enough to provide a pseudo feeling of manipulating virtual products with human hands.

  • The importance of emotional intelligence education in the development of children's augmented reality education content is overlooked. Therefore, in-depth research is needed to develop children's emotional intelligence. This study was conducted through theoretical consideration and case analysis. The proposal of this paper is that the augmented reality type for children aged 2 to 7 is suitable for indoor activities with marking recognition technology. To promote an understanding of emotions, a large screen is selected, and emoticon dolls or emoticon books are recommended for learning content. Children aged 7 to 11 are suitable for indoor activities of non-marker recognition technology, and can induce emotional control and emotional recognition through active manipulation. For the learning content, "3D art teaching content" and "Online Classic Musical" are recommended. Children after the age of 11 are suitable for non-marker recognition technology outdoor activities and improve each element of emotional intelligence through interaction with nature and society. For the learning content, 'Forest Play Activity through Art' and 'EQ Theater Play' are recommended. Through this paper, we intend to promote the development of children's augmented reality emotional intelligence education.

  • A quantitative method for determining levels of three bioactive compounds based on pattern recognition was developed and fully validated for the quality control of Alismatis Rhizoma (AR) by HPLC. Separation conditions were optimised using an Optimapak $C_{18}$ column ($250mm{\times}4.6mm$, 5 ${\mu}m$) with a mobile phase of acetonitrile and 0.1% aqueous phosphoric acid and detection wavelengths of 205 and 245 nm. Method validation yielded acceptable linearity ($r^2$ > 0.9998) and percent recovery (98.06%-101.71%). Limits of detection ranged from 0.08 to 0.15 ${\mu}g/mL$. Levels of the three bioactive compounds, alisol C acetate, alisol B, and alisol B acetate, in AR were 0.07-0.45, 0.38-10.32, and 1.13-8.59 mg/g dried weight, respectively. Pattern analyses based on these three compounds were able to differentiate Chinese and Korean samples accurately. The results demonstrate that alisol B and its acetate may be used as marker compounds for AR quality and can be regulated to no less than 0.36 and 1.29 mg/g of dried sample, respectively. The method described here is suitable for quantitative analyses and quality control of multiple components in AR.

  • The indoor areas for the commercial use of automatic monitoring systems of mobile robot localization improves the cognitive abilities and the needs of the environment with this emerging and existing mobile robot localization, and object recognition methods commonly around its great sensor are leveraged. On the other hand, there is a difficulty with a problem-solving self-location estimation in indoor mobile robots using only the sensors of the robot. Therefore, in this paper, a self-position estimation method for an enhanced and effective mobile robot is proposed using a marker and CCTV video that is already installed in the building. In particular, after recognizing a square mobile robot and the object from the input image, and the vertices were confirmed, the feature points of the marker were found, and marker recognition was then performed. First, a self-position estimation of the mobile robot was performed according to the relationship of the image marker and a coordinate transformation was performed. In particular, the estimation was converted to an absolute coordinate value based on CCTV information, such as robots and obstacles. The study results can be used to make a convenient self-position estimation of the robot in the indoor areas to verify the self-position estimation method of the mobile robot. In addition, experimental operation was performed based on the actual robot system.

  • Substance P and neuropeptide Y were discovered as early diagnostic biomarkers of acute myocardial infarction in Korean patients and confirmed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). We screened 12 peptides from the sera of Korean acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients and detected 3 peptides (neuropeptide Y, substance P, and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide) to be elevated from patients' sera by liquid chromatography mass/mass spectrometry. The elevated concentration of 3 peptides was confirmed by ELISA. The screening results revealed the substance P, neuropeptide Y, and pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (47-76) concentrations were higher in patients' sera than in healthy controls. The sensitivity and specificity of substance P for AMI diagnostic marker were 80% and 83%, respectively, and those of neuropeptide Y were 87% and 90%, respectively compared to healthy controls. These results suggest that substance P and neuropeptide Y could be used as early diagnostic biomarkers in patients with AMI.

  • This paper presents a novel approach for human activity recognition (HAR) using the joint angles from a 3D model of a human body. Unlike conventional approaches in which the joint angles are computed from inverse kinematic analysis of the optical marker positions captured with multiple cameras, our approach utilizes the body joint angles estimated directly from time-series activity images acquired with a single stereo camera by co-registering a 3D body model to the stereo information. The estimated joint-angle features are then mapped into codewords to generate discrete symbols for a hidden Markov model (HMM) of each activity. With these symbols, each activity is trained through the HMM, and later, all the trained HMMs are used for activity recognition. The performance of our joint-angle-based HAR has been compared to that of a conventional binary and depth silhouette-based HAR, producing significantly better results in the recognition rate, especially for the activities that are not discernible with the conventional approaches.

  • We propose a novel method to conceal fiducial markers observed in augmented scenes using patch-based texture synthesis. Despite the efficiency for simple object recognition and tracking, the markers deliver inherent obtrusiveness. They do not only reduce immersiveness, but also severely degrade usability of augmented reality. The proposed method constructs alternative images in real time to overlay markers present in the sequence of images. The global characteristics of background textures are retained and the results are more adaptive to illumination changes.
