  • This study aims to analyze the network structure of technological innovation resources in SMEs, especially manufacturing firms, and reveal the differences between innovative and non-innovative firms. The study first analyzes connection centrality, flow-mediated centrality, and power centrality for all firms, and derives structural equivalence through CONCOR analysis. Then, the network structure of innovative and non-innovative firms was compared and analyzed according to innovation performance and creation. The results show that entrepreneurship and corporate innovation strategy have a significant impact on the analysis of technological innovation resources of all firms. According to the CONCOR analysis, the innovation resources of SMEs are organized into seven clusters, which can be defined as intrinsic product innovation resources, competitive advantage promotion resources, cooperative activities resources, information system resources, and innovation protection resources. The network analysis of innovative and non-innovative firms showed that innovative firms focused on enhancing competitiveness and improving quality, while non-innovative firms tended to focus more on existing products and customers. In addition, innovative firms had eight clusters, while non-innovative firms had six clusters, suggesting that innovative firms utilize resources diversely to pursue structural change and new value creation, while non-innovative firms operate technological innovation resources in a more stable form. This study emphasizes the importance of entrepreneurship and corporate innovation strategy in SMEs' technological innovation, and suggests that strong internal efforts are needed to increase innovativeness. These findings have important implications for strategy formulation and policy development for technological innovation in SMEs.

  • Reconfigurable manufacturing system (RMS), alternatively called changeable manufacturing, is a new manufacturing paradigm designed for rapid change in hardware and software components in order to quickly adjust production capacity and functionality in response to sudden changes in market or in regulatory requirements. Although there has been much progress in hardware components during the last decade, not much work has been done on operational issues of RMS. As one of starting studies on the operational issues, we suggest a framework for the system setup and scheduling problems to cope with the reconfigurability of RMS. System setup, which includes batching, part grouping, and loading, are concerned with the pre-arrangement of parts and tools before the system begins to process, and scheduling is the problem of allocating manufacturing resources over time to perform the operations specified by system setup. The framework consists of 8 scenarios classified by three major factors: order arrival process, part selection process, and tool magazine capacity. Each of the scenarios is explained with its subproblems and their interrelationships.

  • The importance of innovative capability, the driving force behind innovation as a company's intangible resources, is increasing. In general, companies with high innovation capability are more likely to be successful in innovation, which can be expected to have a positive impact on corporate performance. The innovation capacity of SMEs considered in this study is R&D capability and manufacturing capability. The reason for this is that not only the continuous efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of SMEs are focused on stabilizing manufacturing capability, but also considering the situation in which governmental support for SMEs' R&D capability has been actively developed. This study examines whether R&D capability and manufacturing capability have a significant influence on corporate performance and securing competitive advantage, and analyzes whether competitive advantage acts as a mediator between innovation capability and corporate performance through regression analysis. SPSS 23.0 software was used for the empirical analysis of the data obtained through the survey. The research results are as follows. First, both R&D and manufacturing capabilities of SMEs were found to have a significant positive effect on corporate performance. Second, manufacturing capability had a significant effect on securing competitive advantage of SMEs, but R&D capability was not significant. Third, the competitive advantage of SMEs was found to play a mediating role between manufacturing capability and corporate performance.

  • This study uses traditional alum coagulation and sedimentation process to treat CMP wastewater from cleaning after polishing. The primary goal is to successfully recycle both solid fines and water for semiconductor manufacturing. Results indicated that CMP wastewater may be successfully treated to recover clean water and fine particles by alum coagulation. The optimum operating conditions for coagulation are as fellowing: alum dosage of 10 ppm, pH at 5, rapid mixing speed at 800 rpm, 5 min rapid mixing time, and long slow mixing time. The treated water with low turbidity and an average residual aluminum ion concentration of 0.23 ppm may be considered for reuse. The settled sludge after alum coagulation contains mainly SiO$_2$particle with a minor content of aluminum (1.7 wt%) may be considered as raw materials for glass and ceramic industry.

  • Nowadays, manufacturing industries undergo constantly growing pressures for global competitions, and they must shorten time and cost in product development and production to response varied customers' requirements. Digital virtual manufacturing is a technology that can facilitate effective product development and agile production by using digital models representing the physical and logical schema and the behavior of real manufacturing systems including products, processes, manufacturing resources and plants. For successful applications of this technology, a digital virtual factory as a well-designed and integrated environment is essential. In this paper, we developed a new classification and coding system for effective managements of digital virtual factory objects, and implement a supporting application to verify and apply it. Furthermore, a digital virtual factory layout management system based on the classification and coding system has developed using XML, Visual Basic.NET and FactoryCAD. By some case studies for automotive general assembly shops of a Korean automotive company, efficient management of factory objects and reduction of time and cost in digital virtual factory constructions are possible.

  • Manufacturing today is becoming increasingly competitive. If a company is to exist and successfully compete, it must pay very careful attention to production management, total quality assurance and total proactive maintenance issues. Overall machine performance, repair efficiency, system level utilization, productivity and quality of output need to be optimized as possible. To accomplish that objective, the behavior of manufacturing equipment and systems need to be monitored and measured continuously if it is possible. Then early warning of possible failure should be generated and proacted on that type of the situation to improve overall operation performance of manufacturing environment. In this paper, Proactive maintenance framework using performance-based reliability structure as enabler technology is proposed. Its paradigm enables one to maximize system through-put and product quality as well as resources in the performance domain. In the case of inadequate knowledge of the failure mechanics, this empirical modeling concept along with performance degradation knowledge can serve as an important product and process improvement tool. The real-time framework extension to proposed framework uses on-line performance information and is capable of projecting the remaining useful period.
