This paper investigates the effects of China's participation in global value chains (GVC) on the productivities focusing on the manufacturing industries. In this study, several indicators of participation in global value chains were used. These include GVC participation, forward GVC participation, backward GVC participation and GVC position index. In particular, we used the data obtained from 18 manufacturing industries in China during 15 years from 2000 to 2014. The main results of the analysis are as follows. First, the higher the degree of total participation in GVC, the higher the productivity. This means that with the increase in exports and imports of intermediate goods, productivity has increased through technology spillover effects or competition effects, and so on. Second, the backward participation does not increase the productivities significantly while forward participation leads higher productivity. Third, the productivity improvement effects of GVC participation was larger in the high-tech industries than in the low-tech industries. These results show that GVC participation was helpful for the economic growth of China and the efforts for moving toward upstream production stage in GVC is necessary for the improvement of international competitiveness in Chinese manufacturing industry.
Does servitization improve manufacturing firms' performance, and in what condition? Following the seminal work of Crozet and Milet (2017), this study analyzes disaggregated firm-level data that covers 40,000 South Korean manufacturing firms surveyed by the Survey of Business Activities of Korea. We compute firm-level servitization intensity with available sales data of each firm by two-digit SIC sub-sectors. We find two novel empirical regularities: Korean servitization intensity distribution shows a very different shape from the French benchmark; Servitized firms tend to perform higher profitability and higher productivity than non-servitized firms.

Using the Malmquist productivity index, this paper compares the productivity of Korean manufacturing industries from 1999 to 2006. The malmquist productivity index has more advantages than previous methods such as solow model, endogenous growth theory. The malmquist productivity index can be decomposed productivity into two parts. The first part is an index of the technical efficiency change. This index has high value when the elements of production is used more efficiently. The second part is an index of technical change. This index has high value if the advent of new technology and process innovation occur.
This paper is to estimate the total factor productivity(TFP) in the Korean manufacturing and service industries during the period 1975:1-2016:4 using the stochastic frontier analysis model. In order to analyze the determinants for the total factor productivity the paper estimates the industry-specific determinant elasticities of TFP using the autoregressive distributed model. The industry-specific determinants, which reflect the industrial structure and properties include markup, the ratio of capital to labor(KL), and the ratio of foreign intermediate goods (FIG) to industrial output. The average value for total factor productivity growth was estimated to be 0.0199 in manufacturing and 0.0063 in the service industry. The markup and KL elasticities of TFP were estimated to be 2.481 and 0.651 in manufacturing respectively and -1.403 and 0.042 in the service industry respectively. The empirical results suggest that the industrial markup and the ratio of capital to labor have had decisive effects on the changes in the total factor productivity in the Korean manufacturing and service industries during the period 1975:1-2016:4.
According to the macroeconomic allocation efficiency measure, particularly based on the methodology of Hsieh and Klenow (2009), Korea's allocation efficiency in the manufacturing industry deteriorated in the 2000s compared to that in the 1990s. This study compares the potential TFP gain when resource allocation is removed, an indicator of allocation inefficiency according to Hsieh and Klenow (2009), and the productivity dispersion in the Korean manufacturing industry. It finds that the TFP gain may be better explained by TFP dispersions rather than proxies related to factors of distortion. The findings imply that we should investigate the sources of TFP dispersion rather than the sources of distortion to explain increases in the TFP gain (or TFP loss), which is considered as allocation inefficiency in the literature.

The technology of manufacturing freeform molds with S-LOM based 3D printer has advantages in the production period and the curvature range. However, there is no any support tool about productivity analysis of S-LOM technology because S-LOM technology is early-stage technology. There can be problems about increase of construction time and cost without any decision support tool like productivity analysis models etc. Therefore, in this study, the productivity analysis simulation model for freeform formwork based on S-LOM technology was developed using ARENA software. The process and logic of manufacturing freeform molds can be easily visualized in this model. Futhermore, the resource like labor, equipment and material can be easily optimized with this model. As a result, it can contribute to preventing the increase of construction time and cost in formwork with further productivity analysis.
Semiconductor manufacturing is one of the most complex and capital-intensive processes composed of several hundreds of operations. In today’s competitive business environments, it is more important than ever before to manage manufacturing process effectively to achieve better performances in terms of customer satisfaction and productivity than those of competitors. So, many semiconductor manufacturing companies implement advanced planning and scheduling (APS) system as a management tool for the complex semiconductor manufacturing process. In this study, we explain roles of production planning and scheduling in semiconductor manufacturing and principal factors that make the production planning and scheduling more difficult. We describe the APS system implementation project at Korean semiconductor manufacturing company in terms of key issues with realistic samples.
Today's manufacturing enterprise relies heavily on the collaboration and coordination among the distributed manufacturing systems. The effective exchange of the various manufacturing information among the distributed organizations contributes a great deal to their productivity. An Internet-Based Manufacturing Desk is developed for the production of the press dies in the automobile industry in order to solve the manufacturing problems among the distributed organizations, to maintain their smooth and immediate information flow, and to increase their productivity finally. The CBR(Case-Based Reasoning) method is applied to achieve those effects. Using the method, the solutions and methods of the predetermined case-bases are retrieved and applied to solve a newly introduced problem. The developed system is implemented and applied successfully.
In recent, rapid manufacturing (RM) technology is widely used to develop an injection mould with a high performance. The objective of this paper is to develop the injection mould with a high productivity using a hybrid RM technology combining Laser-aided Direct Metal Tooling process with a machining process. The geometry decomposition has been utilized to improve the speed of the manufacturing for the mould. Mould with conformal cooling channels has been designed to improve cooling characteristics. Several experiments have been carried out to evaluate characteristics of the mould manufactured from the hybrid RM technology. In addition, injection molding tests have been performed to examine the performance of the manufactured mould. The results of the injection molding tests have been shown that a cooling time and the injection time of the designed mould are reduced to one-fifth and one-second that of the mould with convention cooling channels.

The trouble of business management of the mining and manufacturing companies in Korea are constituted by that average 28.3% of production management in the worst trouble of business management from 1973 to 1980 So that Industrial productivity in Korea lower than an industrially advanced nation and then a change for the better of effective production management operations manufacturing companies are suggested by the application effects and achievement points of production management. Therefor Industrial Engineering technics is applied systematic route and the manufacturing company grow more than better its Business Physical condition for the improve productivity applied system approach for a rational product ion management system model.
