Space Optimization for Warehousing Problem: A Methodology for Decision Support System

  • This article presents a way of tackling a special class of space optimization problems that arise in a number of practical applications in industry and elsewhere. It presents an elegant solution to a problem that was considered by (Das, 2005) in optimizing storage space in warehouse of a footwear manufacturing company. In (Das, 2005), the problem was formulated as a nonlinear programming problem. In this article, it is shown that the problem can be formulated as a generalized transportation problem which is a special case of generalized network flow problems. Further, an elegant scheme is devised to handle the dynamic situation of warehousing problem which can be easily translated into a decision support system for the warehouse management system. Also, the article points out certain obscurities and gaps in (Das, 2005).

  • Bankruptcy prediction is an important and widely studied topic since it can have significant impact on bank lending decisions and profitability. Recently, support vector machine (SVM) has been applied to the problem of bankruptcy prediction. The SVM-based method has been compared with other methods such as neural network, logistic regression and has shown good results. Genetic algorithm (GA) has been increasingly applied in conjunction with other AI techniques such as neural network, CBR. However, few studies have dealt with integration of GA and SVM, though there is a great potential for useful applications in this area. This study proposes the methods for improving SVM performance in two aspects: feature subset selection and parameter optimization. GA is used to optimize both feature subset and parameters of SVM simultaneously for bankruptcy prediction.

Exploring the determinants of information systems performance: A case of Korean SMEs

  • The performance of informatization differs depending on its utilization, investment and construction methods. This study analyzed the key factors affecting the performance of informatization based on a public survey on the information system operation of small and medium-sized companies in Korea. Through structural equation modeling and one-way ANOVA, the study identified the pathways leading to performance. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that higher levels of top management support are associated with increased information system use and performance. Similarly, higher levels of information system use are correlated with better performance of information systems. This research is significant as it investigates and reveals how top management support and information system usage work in the cases of SMEs in South Korea, which is a leading country in manufacturing. The findings of this study will provide valuable insights for SMEs, whether they have already developed an information system or plan to do so, in their efforts to enhance corporate competitiveness.

상업스포츠시설의 발전방안 (Developmental Solutions of Commercial Sports Facilities)

  • 우리나라의 상업스포츠시설은 선진 국가에 비견해 볼 때 아직도 미흡한 점이 많으며, 여러 가지 해결해야 할 시설경영적 사회제도적 문제점을 지니고 있다. 상업스포츠시설의 발전을 위해서는 시설경영 능력을 제고하고 사회제도적 자원을 확대해야 한다. 첫째, 시설경영능력을 제고하기 위해서는 지도자 처우개선 및 고용확대, 경영 마케팅 능력 강화, 서비스품질 및 고객만족 향상, 시설의 현대화에 노력을 집중시켜야 한다. 둘째, 사회제도적 지원 확대를 위해서는 전문인력 양성 배치의 강화, 스포츠시설 규제완화 제도개선, 조세 금융 지원 확대, 스포츠시설업 정보망 구축 등에 많은 노력을 기울여야 한다. 결국, 상업스포츠시설업 주체는 시설경영 능력 향상을 위한 혁신적 노력을 기울여야 하며, 정부나 지자체에서는 상업스포츠시설이 발전할 수 있는 최적의 사회환경을 만들어 주어야 할 것이다.

Critical Success Factors for the Adoption of Health Management Information Systems in Public Hospitals in Zimbabwe

  • The Zimbabwean healthcare sector faces huge challenges due to increased demands for improved services for a growing number of patients with fewer resources. The use of information and communications technologies, prevalent in many industries, but lacking in Zimbabwean healthcare, could increase productivity and innovation. The adoption of health management information systems (HMISs) can lead to improved patient safety and high-level patient care. These technologies can change delivery methods to be more patient focused by utilising integrated models and allowing for a continuum of care across healthcare providers. However, implementation of these technologies in the health care sector remains low. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the advantages to be attained by using HMISs in healthcare delivery and to ascertain the factors that influence the uptake of such systems in the public healthcare sector. A conceptual model, extending the technology, organization, and environment framework by means of other adoption models, underpins the study of adoption behavior. A mixed method methodology was used to conduct the study. For the quantitative approach, questionnaires were used to allow for regression analysis. For the qualitative approach, thematic analysis was used to analyse interview data. The results showed that the critical success factors (namely, relative advantage, availability, complexity, compatibility, trialability, observability, management support, information and communication technology expertise, communication processes, government regulation, infrastructure support, organizational readiness, industry and competitive support, external support, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, attitude, and intention to use) influenced adoption of HMISs in public hospitals in Zimbabwe.

스트레스와 우울에 대한 부모의 사회적 지원, 어려움극복효능감, 스트레스 관리행동의 영향: 초, 중, 대학생 집단을 중심으로 (The influence of parental social support and resiliency of efficacy on stress, depression, and stress management behavior: Comparative analysis of elementary school, middle school and university students)

  • 이 연구는 스트레스와 우울에 대한 부모의 사회적 지원, 어려움극복효능감, 스트레스 관리행동의 영향을 분석하는데 주된 목적이 있다. 분석대상은 총 799명(남 386명, 여 413명)으로서, 초등학생 184명, 중학생 354명, 대학생 274명이었다. 측정도구는 간편형 로드아일랜드 스트레스 척도(Horiuchi, Tsuda, Tanaka, Yajima & Tsuda, in press), 스트레스 관리행동 척도(Evers, Prochaska, Johnson, Mauriello, Padula & Prochaska, 2006), 우울 척도(BDI-II, Beck, Steer & Brown, 1996; CES-D, Radloff, 1977), 어려움극복효능감 척도(Bandura, 1995), 부모의 사회적 지원 척도(김의철, 박영신, 1999)를 활용하였다. 경로분석 및 효과분석 결과, 어려움극복효능감이 높을수록 우울과 스트레스가 현저하게 낮았고, 스트레스 관리행동을 잘 하였다. 그러나 스트레스 관리행동은 스트레스에 영향이 없었다. 그리고 부모의 사회적 지원을 많이 받을수록 자녀의 어려움극복효능감이 높았다. 따라서 스트레스와 우울에 대한 어려움극복효능감의 직접효과와 부모 사회적 지원의 간접효과가 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 초, 중, 대학생 집단 모두에서 일관되게 나타났다. 한편, 우울 측정도구를 BDI-II로 했을 때와 CES-D로 했을 때, 스트레스 관리행동이 우울에 미치는 영향은 다르게 나타남으로써, 다양한 우울 측정도구의 구인에 대한 검토가 요구된다.

  • 본 연구는 RFID를 이용한 창고관리시스템(Warehouse Management System; WMS), 통합주문관리시스템(Customer Service & Support System; CSS), 국제물류시스템(Delivery Management System)을 성공적으로 구축한 CJ GLS주식회사의 사례를 통한 구축효과에 대한 연구이다. 이를 위해 먼저 산업자원부 등에서 정책적으로 육성되고 있는 RFID, 즉 차세대 유비쿼터스 네트워크 사회의 핵심기술로 기대되고 있는 RFID의 개요 및 특징, 활용분야, 기술 및 실용화 동향 등에 관해 국내 및 외국의 사례를 소개하였다. 다음으로 효율적인 통합물류시스템 구축을 위해 RFID를 이용한 CJ GLS의 시스템 도입배경 및 목표, 시스템 구축의 개요 및, 구축효과를 분석하고, 결론으로 RFID의 향후전망 및 SCM 발전 방향을 제시하였다.

  • Factors influencing the success or failure of information systems9IS) have been discussed in many literes. However, little thertical development or empirical research has examined effectiveness of information systems in health center. This study evaluates several model that contribute to IS success in bealth center. In this study, we propose a process model that exhibits several variables influence one after another. These can be classified into six different dimensions. These inclube system aspect, invidual effect. The system aspect is classified by system quality, information quality and service quality. On individual and organizational aspect, this study uses computer self-efficacy and support of top management. The results of this study are as follows: according to multiple regression analysis of user satisfaction, information quality and support of top management are statistically significant influence on user satisfaction. System quality and service quality are a partially significant influence on user satisfaction. Hypothesis 5, proposing that computer self-efficacy would relate positively to user satisfaction, ws not supported by the questionnaire results. Based on these results, information quality and support of top management are very important variables for IS success.

Customer Level Classification Model Using Ordinal Multiclass Support Vector Machines

  • Conventional Support Vector Machines (SVMs) have been utilized as classifiers for binary classification problems. However, certain real world problems, including corporate bond rating, cannot be addressed by binary classifiers because these are multi-class problems. For this reason, numerous studies have attempted to transform the original SVM into a multiclass classifier. These studies, however, have only considered nominal classification problems. Thus, these approaches have been limited by the existence of multiclass classification problems where classes are not nominal but ordinal in real world, such as corporate bond rating and multiclass customer classification. In this study, we adopt a novel multiclass SVM which can address ordinal classification problems using ordinal pairwise partitioning (OPP). The proposed model in our study may use fewer classifiers, but it classifies more accurately because it considers the characteristics of the order of the classes. Although it can be applied to all kinds of ordinal multiclass classification problems, most prior studies have applied it to finance area like bond rating. Thus, this study applies it to a real world customer level classification case for implementing customer relationship management. The result shows that the ordinal multiclass SVM model may also be effective for customer level classification.

A Study on the Effect of Win-win Growth Policies on Sustainable Supply Chain and Logistics Management in South Korea

  • Purpose: In Korea, win-win growth policy has been successfully implemented in supply chain and logistics management. In the policy, it is recommended to support supply chain partners with various mechanisms including financial and technical aids. This study attempts to scientifically analyze the effects of direct and indirect win-win growth policy factors on supply chain and logistics management performance through partnership factors. Research design, data and methodology: This study builds a structural equation model reflecting the relationship between the win-win growth policy, partnership and performance factors. The proposed model is verified with the PLS (Partial Least Squares regression) methodology. Data from shipper and logistics companies were collected and analyzed by the PLS model. Results: The analysis showed that both direct and indirect policy factors are meaningful to improve supply chain and logistics performance. Indirect support factors including R&D, management innovation, human resources development and educational supports have positive impacts on partnership factors. Direct support factors including financial aids and fairness also have positive impacts on the performance. Conclusions: This study is meaningful in that it suggests a turning point in which supply chain Win-win growth and partnership efforts are perceived as new value-creating mechanism rather than unilateral cost reduction for logistics industry.
