  • In this study, an efficient algorithm is developed to compute steady state probabilities for the following M$_{x}$G/1 server vacation system under control-operating poligy: At the end of a busy period, the server takes a sequence of vacations, each for a random amount of time. At the end of each vacation, he inspects the length of the queue. If the queue length at this time is equal to or greater than a prespecified threshold value r, he begins to serve the queue until it is empty.y.

  • The Classical multi-server heterogeneous queuing system can be more generalized by using the concept of the switching rules. The descriptions of these systems, the relations among the state probebilities at the various points of interest, and comparisons with the single-server system will be presented. Instead of using the imbedded markov chain we set up the simultaneous equations for the state probabilites by the supplementary variable method.

  • This paper addresses an optimization problem faced by a multi-server and multi-class customer system in manufacturing facilities and service industries. This paper presents a model of an integrated problem of server allocation and customer type partitioning. We approximate the problem through two types of models to make it tractable. As soution approach, the simulated annealing heuristic is constructed based on the general simulated annealing method. Computational results are presented.

  • Server consolidation and virtualization have become an integral part of IT planning to reduce TCO cost and ensure the high availability for customer, enlarge the flexibility to computing resource in today' enterprise data centers. In spite of having the variety advantages of server consolidation and virtualization, they cause many problems such as the software licensing issues, virtual server sprawl, network complexity issues, hardware start-up costs, and failover costs. In particular, software licensing problem brings about the serious results in operating of data center and also presents a significant challenge to virtualization because many vendors have realized that licensing policies applicable to physical systems are not compatible with virtual machines. So, the IT planers must be considering this problem before they conducts the server consolidation and virtualization. In this paper, we proposed the efficiency strategy of SW licensing for server consolidation and virtualization analyzing the N-Datacenter case in Korea. As a result, we suggest the two strategies as technical and management/contract aspect. First, as the technical aspect, we propose i) the adaptation of suitable licensing for virtualization, ii) differentiation of license according to the characteristics of server, iii) the core distribution of licenses to minimizing. Second, as the management/contract aspect, we suggest following three things. i) The existing license agreement is changed to the right licensing for virtualization. ii) The license agreement is contracts the active focused. iii) When a new contract should be added to virtualization provisions.

  • Traffic monitoring, a part of the system management, is a vital function lot the proper operation of a system in use. Currently OMG has been trying to standardize CORBA system management. Besides, many companies and research laboratories have been developing and studying CORBA system management. In this paper, we have designed the proxy to monitor the CORBA traffic using the OSI management technology. To manage CORBA traffic resources, 6 parameters have been made into managed objects. The monitoring system consists of a CORBA server, a proxy object and an MIB. The CORBA server is made up of a service provider, a proxy server, and a event sewer. The proxy object acts as a process of a CORBA object, and is made up of a proxy client, a event client, and an IPC server.

  • In recent years, Internet/Intranet represents the next generation of computing environment. Therefore, it is necessary to integrate WWW((World Wide Web) over internet/intranet and DBMS(Database Management System) in proportion to the increase of various users' request and an amount of data variety. Also, also full variety of service over WWW need to accomplish rapidly modification of bug and make a betterment of system according to a feature of rapid change of information and an importance of interaction with users. The typical CGI method commonly used to connect with database has a disadvantage in time and resources in system due to frequent connection with database. Therefore, this paper provides the conceptual structure and implementation of information management system over WWW with applying a recent information technology called ASP(Active Server Pages) that controls and arranges client logic dynamically in server-side and introducing a concept of working group and folder to database design.

  • In this paper, we develop system to backup automatically personal data by real time based on ECA model. This system backups data that is changed in user PC using CDP technology based on ECA model. Proposed ECA model defines file's change such as file creation, update, remove etc. in user PC to event for synchronization between server and user PC. If event is detected about file, proposed system examines condition that is defined and backup the file to server. Backup data that is stored to server can recovery on point of time that user wants. The proposed system can be applied to data management system for business, personal data management system, high-capacity contents management system etc.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of a CAD object management system for the design library in VHDL design environment. For the efficient manipulation of design objects, the library is managed independently of the underlaid CAD system. Management and revision of design objects can be performed by a batch script of server commands or through the user interaction in the X/MOTIF graphic environment. Through the library server, design management tasks can be efficiently performed, such as configuration of design objects, version control, and management of attributes and methods for versions. Experimental results show that the proposed system is a viable tool for the management of design data in VHDL design environment.

A Design of the Active Web Server Supporting Synchronous Collaboration in the Web-Based Groupware Systems (동기화된 협동을 지원하기 위한 능동형 웹 서버 설계)

  • The web-based groupware systems hold many possibilities for system developers and users. Especially, web-based group collaborative systems are emerging as enterprise-wide information systems. Since data in group collaborative systems are apt to be shared among multiple concurrent users and modified simutaneously by them, the web-based group collaborative systems must support synchronous collaboration in order to provide users with synchronized and consistent views of shared data. However, current web technologies have limitations in supporting this, largely because the existing Hypertext Transfer Protocol(HTTP) is unidirectional and does not allow web servers to send messages to their web browsers without first receiving requests from them. This paper proposes an active web server that can overcome such limitations and facilitate synchronous collaboration in web-based group collaborative systems. To accomplish such goals, the active web server manages dependency relationships beween shared data and web browsers referencing them and actively propagates changing details of the shared data to all web browsers referencing them. And, this paper examines usefulness and effectiveness of the active web server to apply it to the ball-bearing design example of concurrent engineering design systems. The prototype system of the active web server is developed on a commercial Object-oriented Database Management System(0DBMS) called OBJECTSTERE using the C++ programming language.

  • This paper describes design and implementation of a distributed rendering management system using existing rendering module. Currently, most of 3D commercial software provide modeling, rendering and distributed environment in the whole package. So, the server and client should use the given renderer as is, without the required features. In this paper, we propose a distributed rendering management system that consist of rendering module and distributed rendering client-server. The rendering module can be executed independently and managed by the distributed rendering client. The server requests rendering for each connected client. After the execution, the server gathers rendering result from each client. After gathering, the server provides the rendering result to the user.
