The Effects of Service Orientation on the Organizational Commitment and Management Performance of Public Health Center Workers (보건소 직원이 지각하는 서비스지향성이 조직몰입과 경영성과에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of service orientation on the organizational commitment and management performance of public health center workers. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was used. A convenience sample of 280 workers was recruited from six public health centers in J province, South Korea. Data were collected by self-report questionnaires, including general characteristics, service orientation, organizational commitment, and management performance. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and hierarchical regression using the SPSS 22.0 program. Results: The service orientations explained 34.1%of the variance in organizational commitment and explained 31.4% of the variance in management performance. The service orientation was a significant predictor of organizational commitment and management performance. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that better strategies for service orientations will be helpful to enhance organizational commitment and management performance in the public health center.

Determinants Influencing Labor Union Commitment of General Hospital Employees' by the Characteristics of Unions (종합병원 직원의 노동조합성격에 따른 노조몰입 결정요인)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic materials needed to enhance quality of organizational life by identifying the improvements of labor union management in the perspective of general hospital organization management. The subject of this study were 686 employees in 12 General Hospitals in Metro Capital including Seoul. Materials were collected from administrators, nurses and medical technicians in target hospitals from March 20 to May 10, 2005 through survey questionnaires. The main results of this study were as follows: 1. the commitment level of the subjects according to their characteristics was higher in older employees than the younger ones, large family to support than small family to support and those who had higher positions in labor union. 2. The commitment level of the subjects according to the job and role related variables were higher those who had higher satisfaction level to their job and manager, role conflict in all hospitals. 3. The commitment level of the subjects according to union related variables, variables jointly controlled by union and employer was satistically significant positive correlation. In other words, the commitment level of the subjects according to the subjects' labor union involvement was higher in those who had higher satisfaction in labor union and perceived their colleagues' attitudes more positively in all hospitals. Regarding the atmosphere of the relationship between union and employer and the level of commitment in labor union, the better the atmosphere of the relationship between union and employer was, the higher the level of commitment in labor union was in all hospitals. 4. The results of multiple regression analysis shows that formal and informal socialization, union participation to the union management cooperation program, job satisfaction, satisfaction with the labor union's were all found as important antecedents of labor union commitment. 5. Job and role-related variables, union-related variables, variables jointly controlled by union and employer, and labor union commitment level were all found significantly different in accordance with the characteristics of unions concerned. To summarize study results, the level of commitment in labor union depends on job satisfaction, manager's attitudes, satisfaction to their jobs, union satisfaction, their colleagues attitudes toward union and the atmosphere of employer-employee relationship. Therefore hospital managers should have democratic and flexible attitudes toward labor union. Additionally, as formal and informal socialization, union participation to the union-management cooperation program is important determinant in union commitment, hospital managers should have countermeasures to enhance the colleague attitude and job satisfaction level of hospital employees. Since this study deals with psychological nature of workers not a few drawbacks and shortcomings may be detected in the finding. Nevertheless, the finding of this study, to become a momentum that will stimulate further research to detect all the cues of labor union commitment and to provide valuable reference in forming logical union commitment and labor union-management cooperation.

Effects of authentic leadership on organizational commitment for employees (진성리더십이 종업원의 직무만족 및 조직몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • Authentic leadership emphasizes not only increases of production and profits but also establishment of morals and authentic in organizational management. In modern management theories, traditional so-called pseudo-leadership, which focuses on maximizing financial profits, are gradually diminishing as the importance of authentic leadership are widely accepted in various organizations. However, a few researches have focused on organizational outcome produced by authentic leadership. In this research, the relationship between authentic leadership and organizational commitment is examined in an endeavor to present the direction of leadership-related researches. Results include: first, the reliabilities of survey tools for authentic leadership, job commitment and organizational commitment were excellent using Cronbach's alpha; second, relationships between authentic leadership, job commitment and organizational commitment indicated positive correlations showing statistical significance in job commitment and organizational commitment; and finally, the relationship between job commitment and organizational commitment were positive by regression analysis.

An Analysis of the Effect of Employer's Safety Management Commitment on Occupational Accident - Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Safety Climate and Safety Expenditure - (사업주의 안전경영의지가 산업재해에 미치는 영향 분석 - 안전분위기와 안전지출의 매개효과를 중심으로 -)

  • We need a new approach to reduce serious occupational accidents. This needs a commitment to secure employer's safety, characterized by a culture that prevents occupational accidents and appropriates safety expenditure. This study analyzed the factors that relate how a safety management commitment to safety climate in the workplace and safety expenditure affects the generation of occupational accidents. The summary of the result is as follows. First, both safety climate and safety expenditure have direct negative effects on the generation of occupational accidents (-0.136 [p = 0.010] and -0.100 [p = 0.008] respectively). Second, the safety management commitment has no significant direct effect towards generating occupational accidents (p = 0.105). Third, the safety management commitment has positive effects toward both building a safety climate and increasing safety expenditure (0.664 [p = 0.000] and 0.178 [p = 0.000] respectively). The safety management commitment however, has negative effects on generating occupational accidents (-0.090 [p = 0.004] through safety climate and -0.018 [p = 0.004] through safety expenditure). Hence, the safety management commitment has positive effects on decreasing occupational accidents through safety climate and safety expenditure (-0.108 [p = 0.004]). In conclusion, the safety management commitment by employers reduces occupational accidents through its impact on safety climate and safety expenditure in work places. Therefore, in order to reduce accidents, the employer should focus on creating a safety climate and investing in safety expenditure in the work place.

Comparison of Commitment in Labor Union Employees' in the Private Hospitals and Public Hospitals (민간병원과 공공병원 직원들의 노동조합몰입수준 비교분석)

Materials were collected from administrators, nurses and medical technicians in target hospitals from March 3 to March 3 to March 30, 2010 through survey questionnaires. The main results of this study were as follows: 1. The commitment level of the subjects according to their satisfaction was higher when the administrators both in Private hospitals and Public hospitals were not satisfied in their works. 2. The commitment level of the subjects according to the subjects' job dedication level was higher those who had higher emotional attachment to their job in all vocations in both Private hospitals and Public hospitals. 3. The commitment level of the subjects according to the subjects' labor union involvement was higher in those who had higher satisfaction in labor union and perceived their colleagues' attitudes more positively in all vocations in both Private Hospitals and Public Hospitals. 4. From the results of multiple regression analysis to identify major influencing factors of labor union commitment level, In Private hospital employees, those who had senior officer posts in labor union and higher normative commitment showed higher commitment union. Therefore hospital managers should have democratic and flexible attitudes toward labor union. Additionally, as colleagues attitudes is important determinant in union commitment, hospital managers should have countermeasures to enhance the work atmosphere of hospital employees.

The relationship between perceived safety climate and safety participation, and the mediating effect of safety motivation in small business employee (중소기업 종사자들의 안전분위기 인지도와 안전참여의 관계 및 안전동기의 매개효과)

  • This paper reviewed the relationship between safety climate(management commitment, safety education, preventive activity) and safety participation, and the mediating effect of safety motivation(intrinsic and extrinsic motivation) in small business employee. Based on the responses from 270 employees, the results of multiple regression analysis appeared as follow; 1) management commitment, safety education, and preventive activity effect positively on intrinsic/extrinsic safety motivation. 2) management commitment, safety education, and preventive activity effect positively on safety participation. 3) intrinsic and extrinsic safety motivation effect positively on safety participation. 4) intrinsic safety motivation mediates between 3 climate factors(management commitment, safety education, preventive activity) and safety participation. 5) extrinsic safety motivation mediates between only management commitment and safety participation.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the influence of wage satisfaction and personnel management policy on hotel employees 'organizational commitment and job satisfaction in Korean hotels. In the standpoint of management, almost all hotels seek to meet their employees' satisfaction whether they try to or not. The survey was performed on hotel employees in Seoul and 231 sheets are returned out of 300 sheets. This study use SPSS for WIN 12.0 and AMOS 4.0 to analyze the hypotheses. There are several prerequisites for employees' job satisfaction according to researches and theories. The main factors for employees' job satis-faction are drawn by the prior researches on wage satisfaction and personnel management policy. Then job satisfaction and organizational commitment are extracted to study how the two factors are affected. As a result, the satisfaction with wages affects job satisfaction not significantly. Followed by the results, the effects of the organizational commitment on the job satisfaction and the job satisfaction on personnel management policy were shown significantly. Based on the results, this study will give a suggestion that to get the organizational commitment from employees through job satisfaction, hotels should apply fair personnel management policy to their employees.

The Effects of Time Management on the Clinical Nurse's Organizational Commitment and Job Satisfaction (임상간호사의 시간관리 요인이 조직몰입 및 직무만족에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of time management on the clinical nurse's organizational commitment and job satisfaction. Methods: Subjects were recruited in two general hospitals in Seoul and Incheon. Data collection was done using a self-report questionnaire. Time management was measured using the questionnaire developed by Han (1992). Organizational commitment and job satisfaction were measured using the questionnaire developed by Yoon (2000), based on Mowday et al. (1979) and Stamps et al. (1978). The data were analyzed using the SAS statistical package program, version 10.0. Specifically, descriptive statistics and stepwise multiple regression were performed. Results: The predictive time management factors for organizational commitment included deadline decision, simplification, and goal-setting. The predictive time management factors for job satisfaction included planning/making the priority order, deadline decision, simplification, asking for help, and responsibility reduction. Conclusion: Time management factors are highly correlated with organizational commitment and job satisfaction in clinical nurses. Deadline decision and simplification are common predictive factors for organizational commitment and job satisfaction. These results can be used to develop more effective time management strategies for increasing organizational effectiveness in clinical nurses.

  • This study was aimed to demonstrate how the analysis of the impact on confidence in the safety-conscious organizations target the clothing distribution center employees and organizational commitment. Safety awareness of employees of the clothing distribution center safety rules, safety education, road safety interests, divided into risk handling and trusted organization with the emotional trust and cognitive trust, organizational commitment was divided into affective, cognitive and normative commitment. Data collection was surveyed 185 people clothing distribution center workers, tested the hypothesis through regression analysis. The results are safety conscious exerts a positive effect on organizational trust, organizational trust was found to have a positive impact on organizational commitment.

The Effects of Organizational Justice on Job Satisfaction, Professional Commitment and Organizational Commitment among Hospital Physicians (조직공정성이 종합병원 의사들의 직무만족, 전문직업몰입 및 조직몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the impacts of distributive and procedural justice on job satisfaction, professional commitment and organizational commitment among hospital physicians. The sample of this study consisted of 185 physicians from 8 general hospitals located in Metropolitan area and Youngnam area in Korea. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires with the response rate of 40.2% and analyzed using hierarchical regression technique. The results of this study showed that procedural justice had a direct impact on job satisfaction, professional commitment and organizational commitment among hospital physicians, whereas distributive justice had no significant impact. The results imply that hospital administrators should take measures to establish procedural justice to increase job satisfaction, professional commitment and organizational commitment among hospital physicians.
