사업장 근로자의 흡연실태, 흡연지식 및 흡연태도에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Smoking Condition and Smoking Related Knowledge and Attitudes in White Color Workers)

  • Purpose: This cross-sectional study was to find out smoking condition, smoking related knowledge and attitudes of white color workers to provide baseline data which were to develope smoking cessation programs. Methods: The subjects were 303 workers in G-city. Data were collected from July 1st to Aug. 31st 2003 by self-reported questionnaire. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Duncan's multiple comparison test, using SAS-pc 8.0 version. Results: Average age of the laborers was 32.3 years, and 50.7% of male were smoking currently, and 2.4% of female were so. Starting age of smokers was average 20.1 and smoking period was average 12.4 years. Majority of smokers smoked more than one pack of cigarettes in a day. Average points of nicotine dependency was 3.9 out of 10 and 12.5% were more than 7. Those who wanted to 'quit smoking very soon' and 'decided to quit smoking right now' were 29.1%. But those who got any helps and advices from professional experts in smoking cessation were 6.4%. 83.5% of the smokers had tried to quit smoking but failed due to their stress(44.6%), lack of will(36.6%) etc. Laborers knowledge related smoking score were average 11points out of 15, and attitudes were average 75.7points out of 125. Smokers showed significantly low knowledge(p=.012), and more allowing attitudes(p=.001). Conclusions: The smoking cessation programs for the workers should consist of stress management skills, and strengthened willingness. And should be run the program for those who want to 'quit smoking very soon' and 'decided to quit smoking right now' first of all.

철도 차량 정비 작업자의 부직포 보호 작업복 착용 실태에 관한 연구 (A Survey on the Actual Condition of Wearing Disposable Coveralls of Railroad Rolling Stock Maintenance Workers)

  • The purpose of this study was to survey on the actual condition disposable coveralls of railroad rolling stock maintenance workers. The data were obtained from 100 male workers of railroad rolling stock maintenance wearing disposable coveralls using a questionnaire. The results were as follows. Disposable coveralls were exchanged into new ones in a week or 1-2 weeks. The major reasons of the exchanges were 'Because it was contaminated(76.2%)' and then 'It was torn(23.0%)' The response to the wearing frequency was the highest in 'As possible as freqeuntly', and then 'Sometimes' When workers were reluctant to wear the coveralls, the first reason was heat owing to wearing the coveralls. Therefore, wearing frequency became lowered in Summer. The torn parts of disposable coveralls most frequently were around the armhole and the crotch. The contaminated parts followed with the cuffs, the arm, and then the back. The uncomfortable parts were around the neck and the armholes. Workers felt uncomfortable because of heat and sweat caused by garment design obstructed convective airflow. Second, they complained that the coveralls make them irritated in a toilet. Third, they dissatisfied with materials of coveralls because the soils like oil were soaked into the coveralls and stained on the inner clothing. In regard of the color of coveralls, worker's favorite color was blue. In regard of style, the preferences to the separate style with a hood and the coveralls style with a hood were 49.0% and 25.0%, respectively.

외국인 근로자의 건강신념이 건강행위에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Foreign Workers' Health Beliefs on Health Behavior)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of personal characteristics and health beliefs on health behaviors of foreign workers living in Korea. Methods: The subjects of this study were foreign workers who understood the purpose of this study and allowed participation in the workplaces in northern Gyeonggi Province. The final subjects were 206, and collected all data were analyzed by SPSS 23.0. Results: The personal characteristics of the subjects were 51.0% for male and 49.0% for female, and the average age was 31.76(±6.96) years old. The mean for each health belief factors was perceived benefits 4.03(±.56), perceived severity 3.75(±.73), perceived susceptibility 3.65(±.64), self-efficacy 3.56(±.83), and perceived barriers 3.34(±.73). The mean of each health behavior factors was non-smoking 4.02(±.83), drinking 3.92(±.80), health responsibility 3.42(±.83), exercise 3.37(±1.01), dietary habits 1.91(±.11), and stress management 1.72(±.27). The correlation between sub-factors of health belief was all at the level of p <0.01. The sub-factors of health belief were health behavior and perceived susceptibility(r=.773, p<0.01), followed by self-efficacy(r=.760, p<0.01), and perceived severity(r=.574, p<0.01). The factors affecting health behavior were self-efficacy(β=.540, p<.001), perceived susceptibility(β=.461, p<.001), perceived benefits(β=.152, p<.05), marriage status(β=-. 100, p <.05), and income(β=-. 120, p <.05) in order. Conclusion: In-depth consideration of factors that can affect the physical, psychological and social health of foreign workers, and various program development and intervention strategies based on these factors should be sought.

  • 이 연구는 사회복지종사자의 성별 임금격차와 영향요인을 규명하기 위해 대구광역시 사회복지기관 보수실태자료를 이용하여 임금회귀모형 및 이에 기반한 블라인더-옥사카분해모형을 분석하였다. 연구결과 사회복지종사자의 성별 임금격차는 전체 근로자에 비해 다소 적은 것으로 나타났으며, 임금격차의 2/3이 생산성의 차이로 인한 것이고 나머지 1/3은 차별에 의한 것으로 분석되었다. 생산성 차이를 통해 임금격차에 영향을 미치는 요인 중 가장 중요한 것은 경력의 차이이며, 그 외에 교육수준, 직위, 고용형태 및 소속기관의 특성 등에서의 차이도 임금격차를 발생시키는 요인이 되고 있다. 차별요인 중에서는 연령에 대한 보상에 있어서의 차별이 임금격차를 심화시키는 주요 요인이다.

급성관상동맥증후군 남성 환자의 흡연과 스트레스에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Predicting Factors of Smoking and Emotional Stress among Male Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the factors that predict a current smoking behavior and higher emotional stress among male patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Methods: The study was approved by an institutional review board from a university hospital, 2010. A face to face interview using questionnaires was performed with 185 first-time ACS male patients who were undertaken a percutaneous coronary intervention at a cardiovascular care unit. Data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 15.0. Results: About 54% of the study subjects were currently smoking. The current smokers had dyslipidemia and reported bad eating habits compared to the non-smokers. The current smokers were younger, living alone, and reported lower perceived benefit on smoking cessation than the non-smokers, and 15% of them did not consider quitting (precontemplation stage). Smoking status was not significantly related to emotional stress. Logistic regression analysis revealed that being employed including professional or labor increased the odds of current smoking four or three times compared to the non-employed or retired. Low income or dyslipidemia also increased the likelihood of current smoking 2.8 and 2.1 times, respectively. Blue collar workers or heavy drinkers had 2.9 and 2.8 times more risks of having higher level of stress. Conclusion: An occupational background and health habits should be considered to develop an effective educational strategy for smoking cessation and stress reduction among male patients with ACS.

Influence of Occupational Exposure to Bisphenol A on the Sex Hormones of Male Epoxy Resin Painters

  • Epidemiological studies demonstrate an adverse effect of several environmental and occupational exposures on male sex hormone. Bisphenol A (BPA) is a weak estrogen and a widely used industrial chemical. Epoxy resin painters may be continuously exposed to BPA at high concentrations. The effect of occupational exposure of BPA on male reproduction was examined by measuring the urinary BPA, testosterone and gonadotropic hormones of epoxy resin painters in the shipyard. The painters had significantly higher concentrations of urinary BPA (2.61${\pm}$1.08 ${\mu}g$/g creatinine) than controls (1.38${\pm}$0.5 9 ${\mu}g$/g creatinine). In serum, the testosterone level of painters was significantly decreased but the luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels of painters were significantly higher than controls. Occupational exposure to BPA influences testosterone and gonadotropic hormones in male workers.

The Effect of Forward Head Posture and Tension Type Headache on Neck Movement: For Office Worker

  • Purpose: This study examined the effects of the forward head posture and tension type headache on neck movement among office workers. Methods: The subjects were 6 male and 21 female patients composed of a forward head posture group, forward head posture group with a tension type headache and a normal group. Each group consisted of 2 males and 7 females. The cranio-vertebral angle of the head and the angle of motion of the neck were measured. SPSS 23.0 was used for data analysis and one-way ANOVA was performed for the mean comparison of the neck movements in the three groups. Results: The participants had a limitation in the movement of all necks between the forward head posture group and forward head posture with tension type headache group compared to the normal subjects. The forward head posture with tension headache group had limited neck extension and lateral bending compared to the forward head posture group. Conclusion: Office workers have limitations in the movement of the neck when they are accompanied by forward head posture and tension headache. In particular, when accompanied with a tension headache, there is a restriction on the neck extension and side bending. This study is expected to provide basic data for the relief of tension headache and the treatment of forward head posture in office workers.

Effects of Styrene-metabolizing Enzyme Polymorphisms and Lifestyle Behaviors on Blood Styrene and Urinary Metabolite Levels in Workers Chronically Exposed to Styrene

  • The aim of this study was to investigate whether genetic polymorphisms of CYP2E1, GSTM1, and GSTT1 and lifestyle habits (smoking, drinking, and exercise) modulate the levels of urinary styrene metabolites such as mandelic acid (MA) and phenylglyoxylic acid (PGA) after occupational exposure to styrene. We recruited 79 male workers who had received chronic exposure in styrene fiberglass-reinforced plastic manufacturing factories. We found that serum albumin was significantly correlated with blood styrene/ambient styrene (BS/AS), urinary styrene (US)/AS, and US/BS ratios as well as urinary metabolites, that total protein correlated with US/MA and US/PGA ratios, and that low density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol significantly correlated with US/BS, US/MA, and US/PGA ratios. Multiple logistic regression analyses using styrene-metabolizing enzyme genotypes and lifestyle habits as dependent variables and blood and urine styrene concentrations and urine styrene metabolite levels as independent variables revealed that $CYP2E1^*5$ was associated with the MA/US ratio and GSTM1 with US/BS, that a smoking habit was associated with US/AS and MA/US ratios and MA and PGA levels, and that regular exercise was correlated with PGA/US. In conclusion, the results suggested that genetic polymorphisms of styrene-metabolizing enzymes, lifestyle behaviors, and albumin and LDL-cholesterol serving as homeostasis factors together are involved in styrene metabolism.

여자의 적은 여자인가?: 상사 성별이 여성 근로자의 노동시장 성과에 미치는 영향 분석 (The Effects of Female Leadership on Job Stress and Promotion of Female Workers)

  • 본 연구는 여성관리자패널조사(Korean Women Manager Panel)를 이용하여 한국 여성 근로자의 직장 내 스트레스 및 승진에 상사의 성별이 미치는 영향을 분석한다. 분석결과 직속 상사가 여성일 때 여성 근로자의 직장 내 스트레스는 높았고, 사원 및 대리 직급 여성의 승진에 부의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 여왕벌 현상과 역할일치이론에 따르면 한국과 같이 유리천장이 견고하고 상위 직급의 남성 밀집도가 높은 구조에서는 여성 리더십의 긍정적인 특성이 발휘되기보다 다른 여성에 대해 높은 인정 기준을 요구하거나 경쟁적인 모습을 보여 여성 상사를 둔 여성 근로자의 직장 내 스트레스는 높고 낮은 직급의 여성 승진확률은 낮추는 것으로 해석할 수 있다.

이중의제접근을 통한 가족친화경영 (A Theoretical Study on Family-Friendly Management - Dual Agenda Approach -)

  • The purpose of this study is to review previous domestic and foreign studies and to investigate personal work-life harmonization through theoretical research on familyfriendly management using a dual agenda approach. The authors briefly identified trends and critically reviewed domestic researches on family-friendly management and foreign studies of scholars that overcame the limitations of domestic studies to present a foundation for work-life harmonization through a dual agenda approach. As a result, the existing family-friendly management was found to be compatible with work and family but was not effective in developing personal careers. The workers who actively accepted family-friendly management as part of their work-life balance were mostly female laborers who were employed part-time, had lower academic education, earned lower wages and, in general, were non-professional workers without specific skills or career aspirations. The remainder of the workers, full-time male employees, with higher education and with professional knowledge and skills, inevitably worked longer, more labor-intensive hours, due to the advent of the dual agenda approach. A new work-life harmonization program is urgently needed not only for family-friendliness but also for healthy organizations, individual career development and personal wellbeing.
