Development of a Mobile Robot for Handicapped People

  • This paper describes a mobile robot intended for being employed in a multi-agent system. We have already proposed a multi-agent system which realizes patient-aid by helping a lying patient take a distant object on the table. In this paper, a mobile robot agent is developed and is included in the system. An effective man-machine communication strategy is proposed by use of a vision agent settled on the ceiling. If a human (assumed to be a patient) wishes to take an object distant on the floor, he points to the object. The vision agent detects the direction of his arm by image processing and guesses which object he intends to take. The vision agent asks him if it is what he wants and, if yes, the mobile robot runs to take and bring it to him. The system is overviewed with the explanation of a mobile robot. Some experimental results are shown with discussion.

Application of Image Processing on the Laser Welded Defects Estimation (레이저 용접물 결함 평가에 대한 화상처리의 이용)

  • The welded defects are usually called user's unsatisfaction for appearance and functional usage. For checking these defects effectively without time loss, setup of weldability estimation system is an important for detecting whole specimen quality. In this study, after catching a rawdata on welded specimen profiles and treating vision processing with these data, the qualitative defects are estimated from getting these information by laser vision camera at first. At the same time, the weldability estimation for whole specimen is produced. For user friendly, the weldability estimation results are shown each profiles, final reports and visual graphics method. So, user can easily determined weldability. By applying these system to welding fabrication, these technologies are contribution to on-line setup of weldability estimation system.

  • Micro jetting drop inspection system is essential to measuring micro drop volume. Measuring pico-liter drop volume is useful for new LCD color filter product process that is based on inkjet printing technology. To upgrade the reliability in drop measurement system, we use the auto focusing & multi drop reiteration & blurring average algorism. First of all we used standard mark for gage R&R in the vision system. Finding the most suitable threshold for multi blurring drop, is the main key of this research. Sensitivity of vision system is a standard in measuring the upgrade system level. So, suitable threshold can upgrade the performance of jetting drop inspection system.

  • In a the present day, many vision inspection techniques are used in productive industrial areas. In particular, in the semiconductor industry the vision inspection system for wafers is a very important system. Also, inspection techniques for semiconductor wafer production are required to ensure high precision and fast inspection. In order to achieve these objectives, parallel processing of the inspection algorithm is essentially needed. In this paper, we propose the GPU (Graphical Processing Unit)-based parallel processing algorithm for the fast inspection of semiconductor wafers. The proposed algorithm is implemented on GPU boards made by NVIDIA Company. The defect detection performance of the proposed algorithm implemented on the GPU is the same as if by a single CPU, but the execution time of the proposed method is about 210 times faster than the one with a single CPU.

  • A development and application of machine vision system is introduced, which automatically recognizes the serial number of nuclear fuel tube. For the recognition, a indirect back light illuminating system is designed and a pattern matching algorithm based on neural network is applied. The various operation and management functions are also developed, on a PC under windows OS, for easy operation and data management, respectively. By the successful application of the vision system the productivity of the nuclear fuel tube recognition process is highly improved.

  • It is a great number of problem for the man to perform maintenance and repairing work owing to radioactive effusion for a nuclear fuel and the pollution of an related equipment in nuclear power plants.   • This pc-vision system digitizes/displays 512*512*8 bit pixel image in real time and is capable of the various image processing. This system provides a versatile solution to those users pursuing high performance image processing system compatible with the VME bus, and is general purpose imaging system giving the optimal efficiency for machine vision, medical use and various task. In this paper, Image processing technique has classified image enhancement and image analysis in order to design and implement the pc-vision system. In order to improve processing speed, This system unilizing ROI processing performs point operation, local operation and global operation as well as common arithmetic/logic operation in real time.

  • This paper addresses the problem of vision-based mask filter inspection for mask production systems. Machine learning-based approaches can be considered to solve the problem, but they may not be applicable to mask filter inspection if normal and anomaly mask filter data are not sufficient. In such cases, handcrafted image processing methods have to be considered to solve the problem. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical correlation-based approach that combines handcrafted image processing methods to detect anomaly mask filters. The proposed approach combines image rotation, cropping and resizing, edge detection of mask filter parts, average blurring, and correlation-based decision. The proposed approach was tested and analyzed with real mask filters. The results showed that the proposed approach was able to successfully detect anomalies in mask filters.

  • It is well known that the interest on the on-line sensing of tool wear is growing more and more with the aim of controlling machine tools productivity from the point of view of quality. This paper describes the sensing of the amount of flank wear with vision system. To obtain a proper image He-Ne laser generator is used as the lighting source and obtained image is processed with block processing algorithm and morphological image processing method. By means of this system it is possible to evaluate the parameters of tool wear. Experimental tests performed with this system on an NC lathe have shown good performances here described and discussed.

  • DTM (Diamond Turning Machine) is using for ultra precision manufacturing such as, plastic lens die or aspherical optics. This study is on a design of precision 2-axis stage for DTM. We designed and manufactured a back lash free stage using different weights and measured the positioning accuracy using Interferometer. Also, the 2-D moving accuracy is measured using the high magnification CCD technique. Then, the stage is tested with the machining of spherical and aspherical lens in a DTM with air bearing spindle. It was shown that the back lash free stage is effective for improving the positioning accuracy. Also, positioning control errors in motion control board were able to be found using the proposed stages system.
