A Study on the Micro Tool Fabrication using Electrolytic In-process Dressing (전해 연속 드레싱을 이용한 마이크로 공구 제작)

  • With increasing the needs for micro and precision parts, micro machining technology using micro tools has been studied to fabricate a small part with high density such as electronics, optics, communications, and medicine industry more than before. Though these micro tools have developed rapidly, it is difficult to apply them to micro fabrication technologies, because of the inherent manufacturing. In this study, micro tools (WC) to produce micro structures and parts were manufactured by cylindrical grinding machine employing ELID (Electrolytic In-process Dressing) technique and the micro tools are fabricated as square shape with the dimension less than 100${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. With the micro tools on the same machine, characteristics of micro grooving and drilling are evaluated. Also we compare normal micro machining with ultrasonic micro machining on the vibration table. It is confirmed that the developed micro tools are fully applicable to micro grooving, micro drilling and free form cutting.

  • Recently, demand on machine tools has been increased because the machine and automobile industry is booming. Therefore, the machine tools need to have a high accuracy and productivity. To build a high precision machine tool and increase its productivity, structural analysis needs to be carried out for vibration and stiffness of the machine tool before its detail design. However, it is the fact that many manufacturers of machine tools depend on their know-how about design experience. Therefore, in this paper, the static and dynamic analysis is carried out for evaluating a horizontal CNC lathe and then, applied to its detail design. It is positive that the analysis can lead to reduction of design time and improvement of the quality of the lathe as its design proceeds.

  • Since the most exclusive machines of the modern industries which require the nano precision rates are evolved from the machine tools, the design of the stable machine tool structure is very critical. Exclusive machines for the modern industries such as semiconductor, solar cell and LED have surface machining processes which are similar to the face cutting and grinding of conventional machine tools. This study was initiated to stabilize a milling machine structure and further to help design those exclusive machines which have similar machining mechanisms. The vibrations inherent to the machine tool structures hurt the precision machining as well as damage the longevity of the structures. There have been numerous researches in order to suppress the vibrations of machine tool structures using the extra modules such as actuators and dampers. In this paper, the dynamic properties are analyzed to obtain the natural frequencies and mode shapes of a machine tool structure which reflect the main reasons of the biggest vibrations under the given operating conditions. And the feasibility of improving the stability of the structure without using any additional apparatus has been investigated with minor design changes. The result of the study shows that simple changes based on proper system identification can considerably improve the stability of the machine tool structure.

  • In this study, very accurate computational mechatronics method has been developed for typical N.C. machine model applying to manufacturing industry in these days. Computation analysis of high speed machine tools like N.C. machine needs consideration about mechatronical features because the machine shows close interaction between dynamic behavior of the mechanical structure, drives and numerical control. For this, nonlinear structural analysis tools based on FEM are linked numerical control program to control the dynamic behavior. In this study, we studied the dynamic feature of N.C. machine by using SAMCEF as nonlinear computational structural analysis tool and simulink as drivers.

In this study, micro tools(wc) to produce micro structures and parts were manufactured by cylindrical grinding machine employing ELID(Electrolytic In-process Dressing) technique and good dimensional accuracy was achieved. Furthermore we researched the characteristics of machining on the micro drilling using micro drills and manufactured micro tools. Finally it is confirmed that manufactured micro tools can be used for micro machining.

  • Recently, micromilling process has been progressed to meet the variety of the industry demands in micromolds and precision components. As a result, more and more commercialized micro tools and machines become available during last few years. This paper reviews the recent progress of micromilling technology in last five years. The results in process, machine tools, and micro tool fabrications are discussed.

  • Machine tools are one of the energy-intensive equipment used in the manufacturing industry. The importance of energy has increased and the machine tools are required to be energy-efficient. The servo systems of the machine tool consume electrical power to rotate a spindle and to feed a tool during machining. Servo system consumes a lot of energy when the machine tool is operated. The energy consumption pattern of each axis needs to be investigated in order to optimize the machining process with regard to energy cost. In this paper, an energy monitoring system is developed considering various measuring points of servo system in order to grasp the energy consumption pattern of each axis.

  • In order to improve the international competitiveness of ferrule industry, the core technology of the second stage for ferrule grinding system is under developing. A high speed (10,000RPM) and high precision spindle system(Radial Runout 0.2 micrometer) bearing more cutting torque and force is designed considering the limitation of cost and size, the effect of heat, and various work-piece materials. A CAE software for machine elements and general machine system is used for preliminary evaluation and selection of design parameters. A dedicated program for the analysis of spindle system is used for final evaluation and selection of design parameter. The process how to evaluate and select using such tools are presented.

  • This paper presents a developing algorithm of checking errors of feed mechanism in the NC machine tool with DAC method. It is useful to check static and dynamic rigidity with relation between lost motion and current of rotor. For checking error of feed in assembly tuning with machining center proposed checking algorithm is useful.

  • In order to improve in quality and productivity using the CNC machine tools, it has been endeavored to elevate production process by adding supplementary axes(2 axes) to 2,3 axial CNC machine tools. It is because the movement between the progress of work in processed goods is remarkably decreased more than that of general CNC machine tools that productivity improvement with precision maintenance can be improved. VBScript in CAD/CAM is applied to utilize CNC machine tools added supplementary axes so that Multi-axial &Multi-process manufacturin g program can be conveniently drawn up. However, there is generally much skilful work and operation by the manual program of CAD(2.5D) and CNC machine tools in the filed. As a result of conducting an experiment by COM-filing VBScript at the spot of Insert Tip for milling Face Cutter in CAD/CAM Software(2.5D), it was not only timesaving to draw up program but also more convenient than complicated Multi CAD/CAM Software to approach and possible to program various products instantaneously.
