  • We have achieved very low threshold current densities with high light output powers for InGaAs/ GaAs surface-emitting lasers using a periodic gain active structure in which three quantum wells are inserted in two-wavelength-thick (2${\lambda}$ ) cavity. Air-post type devices with a diameter of 20~40${\mu}m$ exhibit a threshold current density of 380~410$A/cm^2$. Output power for a 40${\mu}m$ diameter device reaches over 11 mW. A simple theoretical calculation of the threshold and power performances indicates that the periodic gain structure has an advantage in achieving low threshold current density mainly due to the high coupling efficiency between gain medium and optical field. The deterioration of power, expected from the long cavity length of $2{\lambda}$, is negligible.

  • In this paper, we present a high-performance SiGe HBT's RF input impedance parameter extraction method. The SiGe HBT has emitter width of 0.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and length of 6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. S-parameter has been measured with the collector current of 1~3㎃ using on-wafer RF measuring system . The pre-calculation method was used in order to overcome the local minimum problem. This method enabled us to extract a RF(1~10㎓) input impedance parameter.

  • In this paper, the measurement algorithm of PCB alignment error is developed using image processing. The X-Y-$\theta$ table correcting PCB alignment error is driven by drive module based on microprocessor according to calculation results obtained through image processing procedure. In order to recognize the X-Y-$\theta$ position errors, two fiducial points are marked on PCB and two cameras of ultraviolet rays types are used for detection of the points to capture exactly fiducial points under disturbance of illumination change. Through application for a practical screen printer, the precision control using the developed position control system can be realized about 2.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in table moving range and 8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in camera processing precision.

  • The effects of surface relaxation on surface and interface magnetism in Fe/Cr (001) are investigated using the highly precise all-electron total-energy full-potential linearized augmented plane wave method. The Fe-Cr interlayer spacing is deter-mined by total-energy calculation and it is found to be relaxed downward by 18%. For the relaxed system, the magnetic moment of surface Fe is highly suppressed to be $1.72\mu_B$compared to the unrelaxed case ($2.39\mu_B$). This reduction of magnetic moment is considered as a result of the enhanced hybridization between Fe-d and Cr-d states, which can be seen from the calculated density of states. This work suggests the importance of effect of relaxation to the surface and interface magnetism in Fe/Cr system.

  • The results of the experimental and theoretical studies conducted on terahertz filtering using two parallel-plate waveguides (PPWGs) are presented herein. The first PPWG with 355 ${\mu}m$ plate separation generates 4 THz bandwidth TM modes ($TM_0,\;TM_2,\;and\;TM_4$), whereas the second PPWG with 100 ${\mu}m$ plate separation operated the THz filter for the generated TM modes with 1.5 THz cutoff frequency. The outgoing THz wave of the two PPWGs was truncated until 1.5 THz, and the system was operated using a high-pass THz filter. The absorption and dispersion of the combined TM and TE modes for the filtering system were calculated. The theoretical calculation and measurement results for the cutoff and oscillation frequency in the spectrum domain agreed well.

  • In this paper, we performed theoretical computer calculation for ion-exchange embedded channel waveguide using Field Shadow Method. Using the parameters of ${\Delta}n=0.09$, 0.009, $w=8{\mu}m$. d=8.854, $8.189{\mu}m$ we decided the waveguide characteristics. The dispersion curves showed the optimal fabrication conditions of the waveguides. We observed each of the 3-D field distributions in the various waveguides.

  • It was studied in the present work how the thermal cycling performance of LOC (lead on chip) packages depends on the package construct or leadframe materials. First, package body thickness and Au wire diameter were manipulated for the selection of proper package design. Secondly, two different types of leadframe materials (i.e. copper and 52%Fe-48%Ni alloy) were tested to determine the better material for improved reliability margin of plastically encapsulated microelectronic packages. This work shows that manipulating package body thickness was more effective than an increase of Au wire from 23$\mu\textrm{m}$ to 33$\mu\textrm{m}$ for the prevention of wire debonding failure. Further, this work indicates that the LOC packages including the copper leadframes can be more susceptible to thermal cycling reliability degradation due to chip cracking than those including the alloy leadframes.

  • Flying trajectories of fine particles within a size range of $10{\sim}60{\mu}m$ were studied during centrifugal atomizing processes. A FORTRAN program was written by using increment method. Calculation results revealed that the drag force might reach very high value of 522-7800 g for fine powder of $10{\sim}60{\mu}m$. Flying distance in horizontal direction could be shortened if the particles fly obliquely due to the huge drug force. On the other hand, very fine powder could be projected to far distances when the atmosphere flow velocity is much stronger. Fortunately such particles could be contracted within a cylinder closed to the atomizer when the atmosphere flow was weaken or retained in a limited diameter.

  • We developed the monte-carlo simulation code for analysis of the On signal in dental medium. In calculation, we obtain the two different propagation signals as a function of the probing depth. Signal 2 begins to exceed the signal 1 at a very small probing depth(=60${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$). For reduce the signal, detection area is limited to radius and detection angle. As numerical result, probing depth becomes appoximately 500${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.
