  • Among the digital radiography systems, the computed radiography Image Plate Detector System is most frequently being used for the general radiography and also this system commonly diffracts the x-ray images since it is the system that is influenced by the light diffusion from the fluorescent substances. In this study, by using the X-ray Generator, a comparative analysis has been made between 2 different models of computer radiography image plate investigate each model's resolution and sharpness through the modulation transfer function(MTF) measurement. For the analysis, two image plates for general radiography one Fuji ST-VN model(more than 3years old) and one Fuji ST-VL model(less than 2years old) that are currently being used in "Hospital A" were sampled for the MTF measurement here. As the experimental method for this study, the resolution chart method has been carried out by using X-ray generator. Also all the experimental data were printed out by laser printer and measured by microdensitometer. As the results of the experiment carried out in this study, some differences have been found between the two different IP models and Fuji ST-VL has shown its excellence in both of the resolution and the sharpness fields.

  • We investigate the effects of mid-spatial frequency wavefront errors on the modulation transfer function (MTF) of optical imaging systems such as airborne cameras and astronomical telescopes. To reduce the prediction error of the MTF, an improved Shannon approximation is proposed. The Shannon approximation is useful for low-order wavefront errors, but it has limitations in predicting MTF with high-order wavefront errors, especially those caused by mid-spatial frequency errors from the manufacturing process of aspheric optical components. In this study, we analyze the impacts of concentric ring-shaped mid-spatial frequency wavefront errors on the MTF using MATLAB and Code V simulations and propose a method to improve the Shannon approximation, which has a new correction factor (K-factor).

  • Nowadays, digital Radiography (DR) systems are widely used in clinical sites and substitute the analog-film x-ray imaging systems. The resolution of DR images depends on several factors such as characteristic contrast and motion of the object, the focal spot size and the quality of x-ray beam, x-ray scattering, the performance of the DR detector (x-ray conversion efficiency, the intrinsic resolution). The DR detector is composed of an x-ray capturing element, a coupling element and a collecting element, which systematically affect the system resolution. Generally speaking, the resolution of a medical imaging system is the discrimination ability of anatomical structures. Modulation transfer function (MTF) is widely used for the quantification of the resolution performance for an imaging system. MTF is defined as the frequency response of the imaging system to the input of a point spread function and can be obtained by doing Fourier transform of a line spread function, which is extracted from a test image. In clinic, radiologic technologists, who are in charge of system maintenance and quality control, have to evaluate or make routine check on their imaging system. However, it is not an easy task for the radiologic technologists to measure MTF accurately due to lack of their engineering and mathematical backgrounds. The objective of this study is to develop and provide for radiologic technologists a medical system imaging evaluation tool, so that they can measure and quantify system performance easily.

  • In this paper, we proposed robust digital image watermarking based on modulation transfer function (MTF) of human visual system (HVS). Using the proposed method, robust watermarking is possible both in common image processing operations such as cropping and lossy compression and in geometrical transforms such as rotation, scaling, and translation, because it can embed watermark and template signal maximally using MTF of HVS. Experimental results show that the proposed watermarking method is more robust to several common image processing operations and geometrical transforms.

  • System performances in terms of image quality between an amorphous silicon DR system and a conventional film-screen system were evaluated. Various aspects of image quality MTF (modulation transfer function), NPS (noise power spectrum), SNR(signal-to-noise ratio) and contrast were measured and calculated. The MTF of the DR system was comparable to the film-screen systems. The noise was mainly dominated by the quantum mottle in both systems and the electronic noise was found in the DR system. The contrast of the DR system was better than the film-screen systems by virtue of high sensitivity and image processing. Compared to the film-screen systems in general radiography, the DR system had similar resolution and showed better contrast with the same exposure condition after contrast manipulation. The results of this study provide some useful information about the performance of the DR system in connection with medical applications.

  • This study was purpose to compare image quality of Indirect digital radiography (IDR) system by using the International electro-technical commission standard(IEC 62220-1) which were applied to IEC in medical imaging. To evaluation the analysis of Modulation transfer function(MTF) measurements edge device each angle by using edge method. In this study, Aero (Konica, Japan) which is Indirect flat panel detector(FPD) was used, the size of image receptor matrix $1994{\times}2430$ which performed 12bit processing and pixel pitch is $175{\mu}m$. In IEC standard method were applied to each angle were compared. The results of shown as LSF at $2.0^{\circ}$ and $3.0^{\circ}$ angeles. Shape is constant and shows smooth shape. The amount of data seemed reasonable and 2.19 cycles/mm and 2.01 cycles/mm at a spatial frequency of $2.0^{\circ}$ and $3.0^{\circ}$ at an MTF value of 0.1. At an MTF value of 0.5, the spatial frequencies were $2.0^{\circ}$ and 1.11 cycles/mm and 0.93 cycles/mm at an angle of $3.0^{\circ}$. This study were to evaluate MTF by setting the each $2{\sim}3^{\circ}$ each angle and to suggest the quantitative methods of measuring by using IEC.

  • In the view of the application of high-precision spatial information production, UAV (Umanned Aerial Vehicle)-Photogrammetry has a problem in that it lacks specific procedures and detailed regulations for quantitative quality verification methods or certification of captured images. In addition, test tools for UAV image quality assessment use only the GSD (Ground Sample Distance), not MTF (Modulation Transfer Function), which reflects image resolution and contrast at the same time. This fact makes often the quality of UAV image inferior to that of manned aerial image. We performed MTF and GSD analysis simultaneously using a siemens star to confirm the necessity of MTF analysis in UAV image quality assessment. The analyzing results of UAV images taken with different payload and sensors show that there is a big difference in σMTF values, representing image resolution and the degree of contrast, but slightly different in GSD. It concluded that the MTF analysis is a more objective and reliable analysis method than just the GSD analysis method, and high-quality drone images can only be obtained when the operator make images after judging the proper selection the sensor performance, image overlaps, and payload type. However, the results of this study are derived from analyzing only images acquired by limited sensors and imaging conditions. It is therefore expected that more objective and reliable results will be obtained if continuous research is conducted by accumulating various experimental data in related fields in the future.

  • The purpose of the study is to obtain acoustical information to prevent eavesdropping of the glass window. Speech intelligibility was investigated on the vibration sound detected from the glass window of a conference room. Objective test using speech transmission index(STI) was performed to estimate quantitatively the speech intelligibility. STI was determined based on tile modulation transfer function(MTF) of the room-glass window system. Using Maximum Length Sequency(MLS) signal as a sound source, impulse responses of the glass window and MTF were determined by signals from accelerometers and laser doppler vibrometer. Finally, speech intelligibility of the interior sound and window vibration were compared under different sound pressure levels and amplifier gains to confirm the effect of measurement condition on the speech intelligibility.

  • Eavesdropping prevention performance is evaluated on a commercial window shaker, which is used to prevent a glass window from eavesdropping. Speech transmission index (STI) is introduced in order to estimate quantitatively the speech intelligibility of the sound detected on the glass window. Objective test by IEC standard using modulation transfer function (MTF) is performed to determine STI. Using Maximum Length Sequency (MLS) signal as a sound source, MTF is measured by accelerometers and laser doppler vibrometer. STI under different level of disturbing wave are compared to confirm the disturbing effect on the speech intelligibility.
