  • This case describes key development challenges and patterns as experienced by Internet Auction Company, Ltd. from the startup stage through IPO to the sale to eBay. Currently an eBay company, Internet Auction Co. continues to pursue new auction systems and substitute distribution systems for the future with a renewed entrepreneurial spirit. In 1997, Mr Hyuk Oh saw a business opportunity in the Internet allowing two-way communications. At that time, the success stories of eBay and Onsale in the United States were good stimuli to his startup of an auction site. He opened the Website in April 1, 1998 after four months of development efforts. Auction has merit more than other shopping malls. First, it brings about interesting and benefit. Second, it has interactive trade system. Third, customers will trade for reasonable price through direct own will of them. Fourth, Auction's model brings about multitude sale through aggressive sales. Even if Network Marketing has socially negative effect in case of inappropriate use, it is good mood for further business. In case E-Commerce use as useful purpose, it will have competitive priority revenue model.

Development of Short-Run Standardized Control Charts and Acceptance Control Charts Classified by the Demand Volume and Variety (수요량과 다양성 패턴에 의해 유형화된 단기간 표준화 관리도와 단기간 합격판정 관리도의 개발)

  • The research developes short-run standardized control charts(SSCC) and short-run acceptance control charts(SACC) under the various demand patterns. The demand patterns considered in this paper are three types such as high-variety and repetitive low-volume pattern, extremely-high-variety and nonrepetitive low-volume pattern, and high-variety and extremely-low-volume pattern. The short-run standardized control charts developed by extending the long-run ${\bar{x}}$-R, ${\bar{x}}$-s and I-MR charts have strengths for practioners to understand and use easily. Moreover, the short-range acceptance control charts developed in the study can be efficiently used through combining the functions of the inspection and control chart. The weighting schemes such as Shewhart, moving average (MA) and exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) can be considered by the reliability of data sets. The two types according to the use of control chart are presented in the short-range standardized charts and acceptance control charts. Finally, process capability index(PCI) and process performance index(PPI) classified by the demand patterns are presented.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety of the breast tissue expander implanted patients who require MRI examination. Torques were 0ml, 150 ml, 300 ml, 450 ml at 1.5 Tesla forward direction, 4, 3, 3, and 2 respectively, and 1.5 Tesla reverse direction at 4, 4, 4, 3 respectively. In the 3.0 T environment, 4 was shown in all conditions. In the overturning experiment, no overturning occurred in more than 300 ml in the 1.5Tesla environment, and most of the overturning occurred in the 3.0 Tesla environment. In terms of safety, MRI scans of patients with breast tissue expanders should be avoided at 3.0 Tesla and conditionally at 1.5 Tesla.

  • For the tunnel pattern of PD-3, a numerical analysis using the FEM program, MrSoil, was conducted with given geotechnical properties of surrounding rockmasses to verify the analysis results by comparing with other programs. The analyzed domain was extended to the far enough distance from the excavation surface to avoid the restrained effect by the boundary condition, and the construction sequence was employed in the analysis as calculation steps to simulate the time dependent 3 dimentional behavior of surrounding ground due to tunneling. Maximum 35 mm of the tunnel crown settlement and about 13 mm of the surface settlement were computed and the amount of settlement may not give any structural damage on the concrete structures on the ground surface. The shotcrete stress of 84 kg/cm2 and the rockbolt axial force of 9 ton as a maximum are within the allowable limit. The plastic zone was restricted near the excavation surface, but forepoling around the crown may be required to prevent rock falling. It is believed that the tunnel is designed reasonablely from the economical and safety points of view.

  • In this study, high temperature design and creep-fatigue damage evaluation of a decay heat exchanger (DHX) in the decay heat removal systems of a sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR) have been performed. Detail design and 3D finite element analysis have been conducted for the DHXs to be installed in active and passive decay heat removal systems in Korean Generation IV SFR, and the DHX installed in the STELLA-1(Sodium integral effect test loop for safety simulation and assessment) at KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute). Evaluations of creep-fatigue damage based on full 3D finite element analyses were conducted for the two Mod.9Cr-1Mo steel heat exchangers according to the elevated temperature design codes of ASME Section III Subsection NH and RCC-MR code. Code comparisons were made based on the creep-fatigue damage evaluation and issues on conservatisms of the design codes were discussed.

  • This paper proposes a prototype of a safe and reliable wheelchair robot with Human Robot Interaction (HRI). Since the wheelchair users are usually the handicapped, the wheelchair robot must guarantee the safety and reliability for the motion while considering users intention, A single color CCD camera is mounted for input user´s command based on human-friendly gestures, and a ultra sonic sensor array is used for sensing external motion environment. We use face and hand directional gestures as the user´s command. By combining the user´s command with the sensed environment configuration, the planner of the wheelchair robot selects an optimal motion.   • Liquid sloshing constitutes a broad class of problems of great practical importance with regard to the safety of liquid transportation systems, such as tank trucks on highways, liquid tank carriages on rail roads, ocean going vessels and propellant tanks in liquid rocket engines. The present work attempts to give a review of some selected experimental investigations carried out during the last couple of decades. This paper highlights the various parameters attributed to the cause of sloshing followed by effects of baffles, tank inclination, magnetic field, tuned liquid dampers, electric field etc. Further, recent developments in the study of sloshing in micro and zero gravity fields have also been reported. In view of this, fifteen research articles have been carefully chosen, and the work reported therein has been addressed and discussed. The key issues and findings have been compared, tabulated and summarized.
